As soon as Dorothy finished speaking, Jonathan quickly yelled, “We called you here to let you know that Credence needs to do undergo surgery immediately. You’re his wife, and we need you to sign the consent form.”
Marvin shot a look at Jonathan and said, “These experts have looked into his situation. The problem now is that Credence not only has blood clots from the accident six years ago, but also fragments from being thrown against the rocks this time.”
“Those fragments are stuck at his nerves and veins, and it’ll clog up the blood flow to his brain with time. Sooner or later, Credence will fall into a vegetative state.”
“No, that won’t happen. It is impossible for Credence to fall into a vegetative state.”
Dorothy’s gaze fell on Credence through the glass. He laid on the operating table in the intensive care ward, his face haggard and his eyes tightly closed.
He was so quiet that he looked like a dead person!
At that moment, Dorothy clenched her fists tightly. Her sight blurred, and tears formed in her eyes. She didn’t want to admit it, but her heart ached for him.
She had never wanted him to die, never.
Marvin’s right hand, which held a cigarette, trembled. He wanted to put the cigarette in his mouth, but his fingers trembled so badly he couldn’t get it to his mouth.
He was the captain of a special forces team. He’d been through countless brushes with death, but in this moment, he was trembling so badly that he couldn’t even smoke.
What did this indicate?
It meant that Credence’s condition might be worse than the doctors let on.
Then, Dorothy heard Jonathan curse out loud. “Whether or not Credence undergoes the surgery, he’s dead. F*ck Juelz and Jeremy, they caused him to end up like this!”
“F*cking God, why won’t you give Credence another chance at life?”
Marvin and Jonathan had used their fathers’ connections to gather those experts from all over Horsburg so that they could come up with the best plan for Credence.
They’d discussed the situation endlessly, and found that each and every plan that they could come up with had its flaws. There was no way they could guarantee he’d make it out alive.
Dorothy stood still and watched as they spoke. However, her brain was abuzz and nothing registered.
She was lost in her own silent, painful world.
The only thing she cared about now was Credence, who laid motionlessly in the intensive care unit. She looked at the countless tubes plugged into him, and the equipment that beeped around him.
She felt as if ice had suddenly been shoved down her throat, and she trembled.
Her eyes slowly trailed over the white sheet covering his body, and over his exposed leg.
It had been cleaned, but she could still see the wounds littering his skin. Some of them were still bleeding, staining the gauze covering it. Drops of blood oozed out and fell to the white marble floor.
The blood seemed to be dripping on Dorothy’s heart, causing her heart to ache so badly that she couldn’t breathe.
On the other hand, Jonathan and Marvin couldn’t reach a conclusion after discussing either. Their gazes fell on Dorothy and they questioned her on the next step to take.
Dorothy looked back at all of them, a bitter smile forming on her pale face.
What could she do?
If Credence did not receive treatment, he would end up in a vegetative state.
If she signed the agreement for the operation, at least Credence would have a chance at survival. However, the chances were so slim that she trembled with fear from hearing it.
Dorothy stared at Credence’s wounded leg, her heart twisting in pain. Her eyes blurred with tears, and her voice was empty.
She said, “I agree to the surgery.”
She turned to look at Marvin and Jonathan and said calmly, “Before the surgery, tell Credence that I’m pregnant. If he doesn’t make it through, I’ll marry Juelz, and I’ll take Belle and the baby with me. I mean it!”
As she spoke, Dorothy was expressionless, as if she wasn’t talking about herself.
Jonathan gasped.
Dorothy was too cruel.
Jonathan pointed at her and gritted his teeth. “Dorothy, you’re being too cruel, aren’t you?!”
“Just tell him that. If he really cares about me, Belle and our baby, he’ll make it through.”
After that, Dorothy turned and walked out. She didn’t even turn back to look at Credence before leaving.
It was not because she was cruel or heartless. It was because tears had long flooded her eyes.
She was afraid that if she turned to take one more look at Credence, the tears that she’d tried so hard to suppress would flow down.
She did not want others to see her in such a miserable and fragile state anymore.
When she walked out of the ICU, Dorothy took a deep breath. She slowly raised her head and stubbornly forced her tears back.
Credence was unconscious. Who was she shedding tears for? Who would feel sorry for her?
Benjamin ran up to her in a panic. When he saw Dorothy standing motionlessly in the corridor, he was taken aback before hurrying up to her and saying politely, “Mrs. Scott, I just came from the office. How is Mr. Scott doing?”
“His condition is not promising at the moment.”
Looking at Benjamin’s concerned eyes, Dorothy reluctantly nodded her head in acknowledgement. “These days, the company has been in constant trouble and Credence’s health is in danger because of me. Sorry to have burdened you.”
She’d heard from Germaine that Scott Group had gotten embroiled in an incident that had taken more than twenty peoples’ lives.
If it weren’t for Benjamin’s and the senior management’s efforts to turn the tide, perhaps Credence, who was supposed to be in charge of the Scott Group, would have been swallowed up by Jeremy, Rosalie, and other people who had evil intentions.
“Mrs. Scott, don’t say that. Mr. Scott is very generous to me when it comes to my salary. This is what I should do.”
“That’s good to hear.” Dorothy forced out a smile. “If there’s anything I can do, you have to let me know.”
“Mrs. Scott, as a matter of fact, there is something that I need your help with right now.”
Benjamin swept his gaze around. Though there weren’t many people in the corridor, he gestured to Dorothy to follow him to a deserted corner to speak to her privately. He took out a stack of documents from his briefcase and passed it to her. “Mrs. Scott, please take a look at this.”
“What’s this?” Dorothy asked in confusion.
