Dorothy darted into the pharmacy with Belle in her arms. Her expression showed that she was clearly worried about Credence. The owner of the pharmacy came to greet her after hearing the news. He was a short and plump middle-aged man. He looked like the honest, simple sort. However, when he opened his mouth to speak, anyone could tell that he was related to Jonathan.
“Mrs. Scott, you don’t have to worry so much. Mr. Scott is valiant and invincible, after all. As long as he makes a move, he will definitely make those scumbags crave for death like a sex addict would to Viagra!”
Belle was a cheeky little girl. After hearing that odd phrasing, she raised her head and asked Dorothy curiously, “Mommy, what is Viagra? Does it taste good?”
Dorothy felt a little awkward and shook her head, “No, Belle, it’s not food.”
Once she realised that it wasn’t food they were talking about, the little girl lost all interest in the topic and stopped asking anymore questions.
After hearing the child’s question, Jonathan’s cousin suddenly remembered that Dorothy was not one of his regular customers. He smiled apologetically and said, “Sorry, Mrs. Scott, it’s hard to slip out of the habit seeing that my store sells… Well, you can take a look around and roughly know what I’m on about. My mouth slipped, sorry again.”
Dorothy looked around and realised that that was indeed the case.
The whole shop was around 200 square meters. Within it, all sorts of essential oils and other sex toys were displayed. What’s more, she could see blow up dolls and all sorts of female sexual toys right in the centre of the shop. it was a nasty sight to behold.
Dorothy blushed and lowered her head as she quickened her pace to follow the man out the back door. Even the worry she had for Credence had dissipated a little from embarrassment.
She took some comfort in believing Jonathan’s cousin’s words. Credence had always been a strong and wise individual, so he would definitely be fine.
After returning to the incredibly secretive hospital, Dorothy first sent her daughter to the experts for a check-up. After hearing that her daughter’s condition had remained relatively stable and unchanged, she heaved a sigh of relief.
Soon after, she took Belle back into the ward where she helped her daughter into a bath and a fresh set of clothes. She ate a tasteless lunch with her as well.
After eating, Belle began to feel sluggish and laid on the bed, ready to fall into a deep sleep.
Before she fell asleep, she hooked her fingers onto Dorothy’s and kept talking about Credence, “Mommy, your birthday is coming, you must make Daddy eat a candlelight dinner with you. He needs to give you the most beautiful roses too. Not red, they’re too ugly. They have to be blue, like my eyes.”
“Alright, I understand. Why don’t you rest first, Belle.”
Dorothy lowered her head, kissed her daughter’s rosy cheeks, and tucked her into the blanket snugly. She leaned against the hospital bed and took advantage of her free time to scroll through the latest news on her phone.
She saw that every headline was about a series of car accidents. One of them was a casualty of two children and three seriously injured adults. The other one had occurred at the spot near where Credence was driving back from. It was reported that after the accident, three drivers died on the spot.
All three drivers died on the spot?!
Dorothy stared at the news with her eyes blown wide in disbelief.
She remembered that when she was in the car, she heard Credence mention two cars had been following them.
With his excellent abilities, it would be a piece of cake for him to deal with those people. How could he have possibly lost his life just like that?
Dorothy could not accept the possibility that Credence might be involved in that fatal car crash. But after waiting for a long while, the man had not come back. She was suddenly thrown into a state of panic.
An indescribable bad feeling overwhelmed her heart that moment.
She took a deep breath and tried to calm her turbulent mood. She decided to give Credence a call, her hands trembled as she did so. However, his phone had apparently been turned off.
Dorothy gritted her teeth in anxiety. She wanted to go look around the street where the accident had happened, but she was worried that no one would take care of Belle if she left the hospital.
She thought about it for a moment and decided to ask Germaine for help. However, just as she was about to call her friend and ask her to come over to take her place in the hospital, her phone rang.
Dorothy hurriedly answered the phone, and Benjamin’s gentle voice could be heard, “Mrs. Scott, Mr. Scott has gone on a business trip in Belinton City. He has just boarded the plane. This business trip will take up to three days. He told me to tell you that there was no need for you to worry about him.”
Benjamin’s explanation was not enough to calm Dorothy’s worried heart. She frowned and asked in a suspicious manner, “When did he decide to go on this business trip?”
Benjamin replied simply, “Last night.”
“Oh, alright,” she answered.
Dorothy thought for a moment, but before she could ask more questions, Benjamin had already hung up the phone as if he was in a hurry.
Not only did the phone call not make Dorothy feel at ease, it made her feel even more worried.
If he had decided to go on a business trip the night before, why didn’t he mention it to her at all?
But immediately, she let out a self-deprecating laugh.
They’re not that close, so why should he inform her of his whereabouts?
Dorothy spent the whole afternoon in a daze, as she contemplated the entire situation.
In the evening, Dorothy accompanied Belle at dinner. After dinner, her daughter pleaded for her to tell her a bedtime story and she conceded.
However, as she told the story, she felt her heart squeeze, as if something had gone wrong. It was impossible to wave off the sudden feeling of unease.
“Belle, I have to go to the bathroom for a while.”
Dorothy stood up and took her mobile phone from the coffee table as she walked into the bathroom. She dialed Credence’s number again and found that she still couldn’t get through.
She frowned at that and proceeded to scroll through her call history and searched for the number Benjamin used to call her that afternoon.
Oddly enough, she could not get through to that number as well.
Dorothy was stunned for a while. After that, she walked up to the other door that led to Credence’s room, opened it, and entered with heavy footsteps.
Her eyes fixed themselves on the spacious bed in the middle of the room.
Dorothy walked up to it and touched the pillow and black sheets with her slender fingers. Feeling a hint of Credence’s leftover warmth there, her heart began to quiver.
Just then, her phone rang loudly, scaring her as she jerked from the surprise.
The lights in the room were not switched on. With only the hazy moonlight shining into the room as the only light source, Dorothy could not properly read the screen to see who was calling.
However, Dorothy answered the call without hesitation. She heard Jonathan’s anxious voice coming from the other side. The man sounded out of breath and seemed to be trembling in fear as he spoke, “Dorothy, has Belle gone to sleep? Can you come over right now?”
“Mr. Stanton, is Credence in your hospital? Is he alright? Are his injuries serious?”
Dorothy asked a series of questions, confusing Jonathan. He was stunned for a few seconds, and he did not know how to reply.
He was shocked at the amount of worry he could hear in the woman’s voice. He had been under the impression that Dorothy had absolutely no feelings for Credence, and was even indifferent towards him.
“Alright, Mr. Stanton, I understand. Thank you for calling me. I’ll be there right after I put Belle to sleep.”
After she hung up the phone, Dorothy walked out of the dark bedroom and returned to the ward where Belle stayed. She called Germaine and said, “Germaine, come to this address right away, I need you to take care of Belle for me. I have something urgent to attend to at the moment, I’ll have to leave right away.”
Germaine agreed to her request.
Dorothy anxiously waited for another hour for Germaine to arrive. Germaine rushed to her hurriedly in her heels. “Dory, go do what you must. Rest assured that I will take good care of Belle!”
“Alright.”
Dorothy did not even have time to express her gratitude. With a tight grip on her handbag, she immediately made her way to the government hospital.
