Credence had taken a step back too fast. Since his body was already in extreme fatigue, he almost fell down to the floor from the fright.
Marvin rushed over just in time and grabbed hold of Credence’s waist, which was now insanely thin. He raised his head and stared at the raging man at the door of the room with a steel rod in his hands with astonishment.
He frowned and asked, “Juelz, what are you doing?”
“What am I doing? That’s a great question. I’m going to kill Credence, that f*cking b*stard. He killed my beloved Dory.”
Juelz’s face was pale, but there was unconcealed burning anger on his face. He pointed at Credence, who was shriveled and dispirited, and a cold and bloodthirsty look flashed across his handsome face. “It has been over twenty days since Dory has been imprisoned by your side. I thought that Dory still loved you, thus I didn’t bother her, so long as she was happy.”
“However, today, I received a reliable piece of news from a search and rescue company of a friend of mine. He told me that twenty-two days ago, she was set up by Rosalie and sent to drown in Talco River. No one knows whether she is dead or alive.”
“Talco City’s bridge is over ten meters tall! Dory is such a weak woman. Do you think she could still survive after that fall?”
“Credence, you’re not a human being at all. You are worse than a f*cking beast!”
After saying that, Juelz clenched the steel rod in his hand and threw another heavy blow at Credence, so rapidly that he had no time to react at all.
A glint flashed across Marvin’s eyes, and he quickly stood in front of Credence, blocking him. He raised his tan arm and precisely blocked the steel rod. He threw it backwards with all his strength.
Clang! A loud sound could be heard when it fell.
The steel rod fell from Juelz’s hand to the tea table in the room, startling Jonathan who was drinking with another girl. He trembled and asked. “What the f*ck, Marv, you’re so cruel. Hey, do you want to kill me so that you can take away my beautiful girl?”
Marvin shot him a cold glare. No one else took Jonathan’s words seriously.
Credence only raised his head and slightly narrowed his eyes. The light in the quiet corridor was amber, and under it, a sliver of pain could be seen on his thin and cold face. However, the agony disappeared in an instant, and he reverted to his usual expressionless face.
Dorothy’s accident indeed did have something to do with him.
It was not wrong for Juelz to want to vent his anger on him on her behalf.
Moreover, Juelz’s skills were too lame, and he was not qualified to hurt him. A trivial matter like this was not enough to make him feel angry.
Furthermore, had Juelz not accompanied Dorothy for the past six years, she probably wouldn’t have survived after receiving all sorts of unfair harassment that a single mother would have gotten.
“Juelz, leave this place right now, and I will forget about this matter.”
Juelz smiled slowly as if he had heard the funniest joke. He let out a laugh, one filled with ridicule and mockery.
He stared at Credence with an amused smile on his face, and then he punched him in the face, “You son of a b*tch, who cares if you forget about this or not? I just want you to give me back my Dory! Give her back to me!”
“Do you know that she has a daughter who hasn’t even turned six yet? She won’t eat or drink. She cries every night and wants her mother to go back to see her… She won’t even sleep. She’s afraid that she wouldn’t be able to welcome Dory back if she falls asleep!”
“Credence, if Dory isn’t dead this time, you should never provoke her again if you even have the slightest bit of conscience in your heart. Ten years! It has been ten years. Haven’t you harmed her enough?”
“The biggest pain and despair in her life had all been brought upon her by you. Will you really only let her go after you kill her?”
Credence’s body trembled violently. He took Juelz’s hard punch head on and did not retaliate.
Had he still been a frivolous young man, he would have jumped up and kicked Juelz away with all his might.
However, he felt guilty right now, thus he did not haggle with Juelz. He only retorted in a low voice, “I don’t want her to die!” After that, he stepped out of the room with his face blank.
Juelz’s eyes were bloodshot red as he gritted his teeth and rushed forward, as if he wanted to take a bite off Credence’s flesh. However, Marvin gave him a hard punch and he fell to the ground, unable to get up for quite a while. Juelz glared at him with his eyes laced with anger, “Credence, don’t you dare leave. Don’t you f*cking leave.”
He thought of Belle, who had initially been fair, plump and tender. However, her face had turned thinner, along with her entire body. Juelz laid on the cold floor with tears pouring from his eyes as he screamed, “Credence, you’ve continued to hurt Dory over and over again. This time, we don’t even know whether she’s dead or alive. You will really regret this one day!”
“I only hate myself for not being more capable than you. I can’t give Dory enough protection. I’m also devastated that Dory has fallen in love with such a heartless b*stard like you…”
“If only I was the one she loved, then I would never hurt her. I wouldn’t even touch a single strand of her hair, let alone take her life away cruelly like that.”
“Credence, you don’t deserve Dory’s love at all. You don’t f*cking deserve it.”
The words ‘you don’t deserve Dory’s love’ weighed over a thousand tons, crushing down on Credence’s body hard, making him fall apart in an instant.
He dragged his heavy feet, and no longer looked back. He seemed like a ghost, floating in the dark corridor. He had lost the woman who could make him feel at ease and happy. For every second that he was alive, his heart was empty, and he felt helpless. He wanted nothing more than to die.
Marvin stared at Credence’s black coat and pants, which had long turned loose from his thinness. He quickly looked aside as he felt distressed.
…
It was late at night, but Credence did not call for a taxi. Instead, he drove to the villa where he had lived with Dorothy for the past four years alone.
When he entered, no one else was in the room. When Dorothy’s accident had occurred, he had been greatly furious and fired all the servants.
He had spent so much money hiring all the servants and maids, yet not a single one of them could see through Dorothy and Rosalie’s deal. What was the use of having them around?
After taking a shower, he changed into a black nightgown. He went to the guest room where Dorothy had stayed for four years, then he took out her favorite bed sheet and pillow from the cabinet and laid them on the bed one-by-one. He then fell asleep in a daze.
Only at that moment, did he remove all his fierce aura and façade. As he truthfully pondered on his actions, only then did he truly realize how cruel he had been to Dorothy.
He had accused Dorothy as the culprit of every single thing Rosalie herself had done.
During their marriage, he had been cold and violent towards her, flirting with Rosalie to aggravate her. He had even ignored her bitter pleas to not kill the child in her belly, the little baby that belonged to them…
As Juelz had said, he was not a human being at all. He was a cold-hearted beast!
There was a thin blanket under Credence’s nose that still had Dorothy’s fragrant scent. The corners of Credence’s eyes finally began to tear up.
When she had mustered all her courage to love him, he had turned a blind eye to her and abandoned her like she was nothing.
When he realized that he was in love with her, he could not find her anymore.
She must be punishing him for being such a blind person. That had to be the case!
Credence muttered in a low voice, “Dorothy!”
He seemed to have used up all his energy calling her name. Like a person who was drowning in the sea, he could no longer find a way to survive. He was in so much pain that he was in despair.
The day after.
Credence had a headache. The first thing he did when he woke up was pick up his phone from the bedside table to call Benjamin, “Go and bring Maria back. The quicker, the better.”
On the other end, Benjamin understood Credence’s thoughts clearly. He did not hesitate and immediately said, “Alright.”
At the same time, in the early morning, the petals were wet and dewy. The sunshine was bright, and the sun was still rising from the East.
Jeremy discarded the few bodyguards who were by his side and walked into the ICU of a private hospital alone. He stared at the pale woman who was lying on the operating bed with transparent tubes all over her body. He suddenly thought of something and laughed extremely loudly.
He bent over and whispered in the ears of the woman, whose eyes were closed, like a lover, “Hurry up and wake up. Since you hate him so much, I really want to see him being tortured by you until he dies. That would be an extremely beautiful scene to witness. It really would be!”
Lights and shadows overlapped on Jeremy’s soft yet handsome face. He seemed to be both happy and sad, yet his mood seemed lonely.
From the corridor outside, a sound of a woman walking in high heels could be heard as it got closer and closer to the room.
