Credence still remained silent even after a full minute, and his entire body was surrounded by an aura that was so cold that it made everyone around him feel extremely scared.
Rosalie grew so scared that she trembled, not daring to make another sound. She endured the pain in her body and her face slowly turned pale as it alternated between paleness and horror.
She was horrified!
“Credence… I’m sorry. I couldn’t save Dorothy. It’s all my fault. It doesn’t matter how you punish me anymore.”
Tears streamed out of Rosalie’s eyes. She reached her hand out towards the cold and motionless man in front of her, her cold fingertips touching his arms. Veins bulged out of his skin and every single one of his movements intoxicated and infatuated her.
“Let go of me.”
Credence’s face was freezing cold. When he felt the soft touch on his arm, he immediately shook it off angrily. He lightly gave her a cold smile as he said, “I followed you and saw everything clearly. You were the driver. You were the one who didn’t drive straight and the one who drove towards the bridge. Yet, you’re telling me that Dorothy was the one who drove too fast and stepped on the gas instead of the brakes.”
“Although I’ve never had any intimate contact with you for the past six years, I’ve watched every little trick you played behind my back. Tonight, you’ve actually tried to push all your blame to Dorothy right in front of me…”
Rosalie’s expressions turned darker and darker, and she collapsed on the hard cement bridge, sobbing softly.
She could hear Credence’s deep voice, “Rosalie, you have truly disappointed me.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Credence took out his phone from his pocket. He made plenty of different phone calls in an orderly way and gave them a lot of instructions. He was determined to save Dorothy from the river in the shortest amount of time possible.
After he finished making the phone calls, he walked over to Rosalie, who was on the ground. He ignored her tearful and reddish eyes and said in a low voice, “The wedding has been cancelled! I can’t accept such a vicious woman like you as my wife.”
“No, no, Credence, please, don’t cancel our wedding, okay? I was wrong, I was wrong! I’m really sorry!”
Rosalie was in so much pain that she could not stop crying. Although the gentle night breeze blowing past her was warm, she felt immensely cold, as if she was the one in the river.
…
After receiving Credence’s notice, Benjamin soon arrived at the bridge. He skillfully ordered various departments, and under the cooperation of the traffic department, he imposed traffic control on the section of the involved road to ensure that some of the important traces of evidence would not be destroyed.
After Benjamin finished dealing with those trivial matters in an orderly manner, he walked to Credence’s side, who was standing on the other side of the bridge with his eyebrows furrowed. He raised his head and looked at his boss, unable to discern any emotions in his deep and elongated eyes.
He glanced at Rosalie, who was still in a state of confusion, with blood all over her body. He asked, “Mr. Scott, what should we do with her?”
Credence fished out a cigarette and took a deep drag. The white smoke blurred his icy facial features, and a cold smile appeared on his lips. “Send her to the hospital first, so long as she doesn’t die! Our wedding has also been cancelled. Release the news first thing in the morning.”
“Mr. Scott, you’re cancelling the wedding?”
All of this happened too fast, so fast that Benjamin was dumbstruck for a few minutes, his face full of shock.
“Correct.”
Credence flicked his cigarette away. There was a brief glimpse of a daze on his face, but it disappeared in an instant. He returned to his normal expression and said, “I thought that giving her the title of my wife was the best arrangement for her since she has accompanied me for so long.”
“However, Benjamin, I must be a heartless person. I met my ex-wife, the woman who cheated on me when she got married. Although I told myself that I must hate her, whenever I face her, I am unable to feel any hatred towards her. That is especially true for my body. I am willing to get intimate with only her, for only she brings me such incomparable happiness…”
“I realized that there must be something wrong with me. There must be. It must be my memories. I have to regain them.”
Benjamin was a person who knew this better than anyone else.
He had been Credence’s personal assistant for over two decades, so how could he not understand his boss’ feelings for Dorothy?
However, the marriage between Dorothy and him had been filled with schemes and plots from the very beginning, especially with Rosalie adding fuel to the fire from time to time. Credence was also quite blind to everything as he pinned everything wrong on Dorothy’s head. After a multitude of misunderstandings, he and Dorothy ended up in this love and hate relationship.
“Mr. Scott, it is not too late for you to finally find out the truth,” Benjamin choked with sobs, his voice somewhat hoarse
“Let’s find Dorothy first.”
He raised his hands and tossed the cigarette away. His face had turned frigid. “Since she has given birth to the child of another man, I can still pamper her, but I can’t marry her again.”
Benjamin was shocked. “Mr. Scott, do you mean you can only accept your ex-wife as your secret lover?”
Credence replied, “That’s my bottom line. Apart from her, I will never allow any other women to come near me.” His tone was flat as he spoke.
He frowned and kept thinking, “Once I regain my memories and find evidence of me doing more harm to her than she has to me, I will adore her until she grows old, and I won’t marry anyone else until the day I die.”
Due to his selfishness, he had forced Dorothy to stay by his side by imprisoning her. She had escaped out of anxiety and almost died. Now, he would take care of her for the rest of her life, including her daughter.
As for Juelz, Credence had never taken him seriously. He was just a love rival of his that could never be worthy of being his competitor.
Benjamin had never expected Credence and Dorothy’s relationship to develop to such a degree, thus he was rendered speechless for a while.
He sighed silently and said, “I got it, Mr. Scott. As of now, we can only do whatever it takes to find your ex-wife first. We’ll talk about everything else later.”
However, the moment Dorothy had fallen from the bridge that was over 20 meters tall and into the flowing river, the chances of her survival had almost become zero.
As of now, the only thing that they could do was wait for a miracle.
Benjamin could not suppress the heavy feeling in his heart as another thing was lingering in his mind.
If Dorothy really miraculously survived this incident, how could she accept being tied to Credence’s side for the rest of her life with that stubborn and proud personality of hers? How could she accept being his mistress forever?
However, Benjamin sensibly kept his mouth shut and did not utter another word when he noticed Credence’s cold face that was showing a trace of worry.
Rosalie, who had long passed out, was soon sent to Jonathan’s hospital by Benjamin’s men. Soon after, she was sent to the emergency room for treatment.
As for the search and rescue team that had gone to Talco River to save Dorothy, no progress had been made on their end for a few days in a row.
As a result, whenever Credence worked in his office, his expression was terribly icy for the whole day, and the air that surrounded him was incredibly frosty, so cold that he could freeze anyone over.
He received another phone call that reported no progress to him. With a bang, he smashed the phone to the floor. He frowned and said in a near growl, “I will give you two more days. If you still can’t find her by then, don’t even think about getting a single penny from me.”
Benjamin picked up a pile of documents and walked into the office. When he met with Credence’s empty eyes, his heart shivered in fear.
The next second, he could clearly hear Credence let out a decadent and uncertain laugh, “Benjamin, I might really have lost her forever.”
In the past days, Credence had only been thinking about Dorothy’s wellbeing. He had changed his hypnotic psychologist and tried to recall his past memories with Dorothy.
The clearer his memory got, the more he would fall into a vortex of self-blame and pain, unable to climb out of his guilt for a very long time.
It turned out that he had always been the one to let Dorothy down. It had always been him.
What a d*mned b*stard he had been towards her!
As for who he was referring to, Benjamin was clear.
The more he watched what Credence had become, the more uncomfortable he felt.
He quickly lowered his head, neither knowing how to answer nor comfort Credence’s terrible mood.
“Mr. Scott, Mrs. Scott is a lucky woman. She will be fine.”
After saying that, Benjamin helplessly realized that the comfort behind his words really meant nothing and was powerless at the moment!
