After Credence left, Dorothy was taken back to the guest room by those servants. As the door slammed shut, she could hear the sound of the bronze lock locking from the outside.
She let out a bitter smile.
Credence was really going to imprison her!
It was already humiliating enough for her to promise to be his mistress. Who knew that he was also going to imprison her in such a small place with no personal freedom as well. What did he take her for?
She was also a living human being and she had feelings, too. She was not just a prisoner to be toyed by him.
At that moment, the only thing Dorothy wanted to do was escape. She no longer cared about who he would use to threaten her and would only think about that after she escaped.
In the past four years of their marriage, Dorothy was already incredibly familiar with the layout of this villa. The more sad and desperate she felt, the more sensitive she would be.
Her mind was spinning fast as she was thinking of ways to break free from this place and escape successfully.
The door had been locked multiple times with a various number of different locks, thus opening it was extremely difficult. However, if she used the bathroom’s window as a starting point, there was still a chance for success.
The guest room was on the first floor. Once she leaped out through the window, she would land on the garden and lawn on the back. As long as she did not make a sound and disturb anyone, she would definitely be able to escape from this place, using the foggy nightscope to her advantage.
Once Dorothy laid out her plans, she immediately started to take action.
In the evening, when a maid brought her dinner, a plate of fruits had also been served. No one knew whether it was intentional or not, but she had left a fruit knife on the plate.
Dorothy walked over, picked up the fruit knife and rushed into the bathroom. She saw the one-meter high window that had been protected by a lock. It seemed solid, and she had no idea whether such a small knife would be able to give her the effect she needed.
However, no matter what, she had to try this way out.
When she got close, Dorothy raised the hand that was holding the knife and sliced the lock with all her strength.
A soft clicking sound could be heard.
The lock, which was only as thick as a finger, broke immediately.
She had not expected the knife to be so sharp. Dorothy tried to calm her beating heartbeat. Once she did so, she sped up her movements.
She had never been separated from her daughter for so long as she had always accompanied her to sleep every night.
If she was not by Belle’s side, her daughter would definitely not be able to fall asleep and would cry.
“Belle, don’t cry. I’ll come back to accompany you soon.”
When she saw another layer of security being broken down, she smiled happily. She tried her best to hold on to the remaining strength she had. After she broke the final lock, she was finally able to leave the place.
After throwing the dagger out, Dorothy quickly climbed up the windowsill. She gritted her teeth and decisively jumped down the window with her eyes closed.
When she landed on the ground, she was lucky enough to land on the soft grass, and she did not sustain any serious injuries. Only a layer of her skin on her elbow was peeling off and she felt a slight pain.
She had lived in the villa for four years, thus she was incredibly familiar with this place. She touched the gates in the dark, wanting to unlock it. As she was in a panic, she accidentally touched something, and a sharp alarm sounded, terrifying her so much that she suddenly screamed.
Soon, Dorothy came to her senses and realized that she had stepped on an alarm. She was annoyed at herself for slipping up and making such a huge noise. Credence and the servants would definitely wake up and it would be impossible for her to escape so successfully.
Dorothy gritted her teeth in resentment. She held the dagger tightly and turned around to run back without hesitation.
As soon as she entered the bathroom, the white lights were suddenly turned on. Credence was wearing a suit and leather shoes, staring at her without any expression, and his eyes were sharp and cold.
“Ah!”
She was so scared that she failed to hold onto the railings tightly. Thus, she fell onto the cold floor. Both she and the dagger fell at the man’s feet, less than half a meter apart.
Credence remained motionless as he snorted and said, “Are you trying to run away? Who are you going to meet up with? Juelz?”
“Yes, I was going to escape. I was going to look for Juelz.”
Since she had been caught red-handed, Dorothy decided to risk everything. She slowly got up from the ground and said calmly, “Credence, you’ve arranged for your men to monitor me twenty-four hours a day and lock me in this house. I’m not allowed to go anywhere. What do you mean by doing that? Yes, I’ve promised to become your mistress, but I didn’t agree to be your prisoner. Don’t you think you are going too far?”
He sneered, “I’m going too far?”
Credence spat out the cigarette in his mouth and strode towards Dorothy. His eyes were filled with frost as he said, “Did you think you had gone too far when you plotted against me? Everyone who has tried to attack me is either crippled or dead. I’ve already shown you mercy by sparing your life.”
As he spoke, he smiled and said word-by-word in the frostiest manner possible, “If this happens again, I will find someone to break your legs.”
He really did not care about their past relationship at all and only treated her as a complete stranger who had provoked him. When he said that he was going to break her legs, there was absolutely no mercy laced within his words at all.
Dorothy lowered her eyes as she stared at her shoes, which had been stained with grass and mud. Her eyes were filled with tears and her heart was throbbing painfully in her chest, too. She really was considering dying in front of him, just like that.
However, when she thought of her beloved Belle, she strengthened her resolve to continue fighting the battle once more. She was unwilling to die just like this.
She raised her head, stared at his charming and cold eyes, and slowly smiled. “Alright, I won’t run away, but you have to return my phone to me. My daughter isn’t even six years old yet. She needs me to tell her a bedtime story and sing her a lullaby every night for her to fall asleep soundly. This is my only condition.”
When he suddenly heard Dorothy mention her daughter, a child who she had borne with another man, Credence’s mind went blank for a moment, and a sour taste spread from his heart to his nerves.
“Dorothy, you’d better stop thinking about running away! Otherwise, I might do something to Juelz if I end up in a bad mood.”
Credence’s tall body swayed slightly. He withdrew his cold gaze and walked out without looking back.
After five minutes, a maid walked into the guest room and gave Dorothy a strange smile. She handed a phone to her and told her frostily, “Dorothy, I believe you need Rosalie’s help very much right now.”
Dorothy took the phone and looked at the maid’s face. She was surprised to find that this girl looked very familiar. After looking at her carefully, she realized that she had been a maid in the Fisher family.
Obviously, Rosalie was the one who had made these arrangements.
Dorothy pursed her lips and said with a faint smile, “You’re so sure that I will need her help?”
“Of course.”
The maid closed the door silently with a proud smile on her face. “Six years ago, after Mr. Scott dismissed Maria who served you, Miss Rosalie arranged for me to come over. She said that one day, you would definitely come back to take away her happiness.”
“Who knew that Miss Rosalie’s guess would be right.”
“Two days ago, after Mr. Scott brought you back, I stole your phone in secret and gave the exact same one to Mr. Scott. The phone number and recordings inside had been made by someone with hacking skills.”
“Our purpose, of course, is to make Mr. Scott hate you and let him find the good in Miss Rosalie.”
Sure enough, Rosalie was the one behind all of this.
Dorothy held her phone tightly, and her fingers were trembling with anger. “Rosalie must be the one who is worsening Credence’s father’s condition.”
“I don’t know about that. I am only responsible for reporting your every movement to Miss Rosalie.” The maid looked at Dorothy’s anxious expression and pursed her lips in disdain. “Dorothy, Miss Rosalie said that as long as you will cooperate with her, she will let bygones be bygones. However, if you want to stay by Mr. Scott’s side all the time, then your precious daughter might face some difficulties.”
Upon realizing Belle was involved, Dorothy almost went insane. She stared at the maid angrily, and her eyes turned cold, “What do you mean by that? Is Rosalie threatening me by using my daughter?”
“That’s what Miss Rosalie said! She also mentioned that once someone took away her happiness, she would kill that person, no matter who it was.”
Dorothy knew all too well about Rosalie’s personality.
It was precisely because of her understanding of Rosalie that Dorothy wouldn’t dare to even risk Belle’s life in the slightest bit.
After she took a deep breath filled with grievances, Dorothy nodded with a sneer, “Alright, tell Rosalie that I agree to her help.”
She looked at the door being locked firmly once more and finally understood that she had no other choice.
The hateful Credence and Rosalie had taken advantage of her weaknesses, thus she had no choice but to yield.
