Benjamin held the documents regarding information of the cooperation with Juelz’s company in his hands as he walked out of the elevator.
From the glimpse of the woman he had caught out of the corner of his eye earlier, he thought that her slim figure looked incredibly familiar. He could not help but turn around and do a double take.
He unintentionally called out to her in a faint voice, “Mrs. Scott?”
Unfortunately, the elevator had closed too quickly. Before he could see the woman’s face clearly, she had already vanished along with the elevator.
The next second, Benjamin shook his head as he strode towards the lounge.
How could it be her?
Ever since she was released from prison six years ago, she had disappeared without a trace. Since then, Jonathan and Marvin had never seen her again.
He had been busy with company affairs, projects, and various business deals these past few days. Perhaps due to his overtime shifts, his vision had blurred and he had seen an illusion.
After turning a corner, he saw Rosalie pacing back and forth not far from him, a gloomy look on her face. Suddenly, a feeling of irritation rose in his heart.
Rosalie could never compare to the gentle, kind, and generous Dorothy. Her prowess was only in making a show of everything and acting like a spoiled child.
He did not know what had happened to Mr. Scott after the car accident either. After he had woken up, he still remembered everything in his life, except Dorothy and the vile things Rosalie had committed. To his consternation, Mr. Scott had even cooperated with the Fisher family and recently held a grand engagement ceremony, as though making a declaration to the world. Since then, Rosalie had been reveling in the limelight.
Benjamin walked steadily step by step towards Rosalie, who was acting strange. He asked politely, “Miss Fisher, Mr. Scott is inside, are you… going in?”
“No, thanks!”
Rosalie turned around, calmly dishing out a reasonable reply, “I didn’t see Credence downstairs, so I thought about looking for him inside. Now that I know that he’s taking a rest inside, I’m not going inside to disturb him. He has been busy lately and lacks sleep.”
Although Benjamin seriously doubted the authenticity of her words, he could not spot any loopholes in her behavior. Therefore, he shook a large stack of documents in his hand and changed the subject, “I have a few documents and contracts that require Mr. Scott’s signatures. Miss Fisher, do what you must. Excuse me!”
Rosalie nodded haughtily, moving away from the door that she had been blocking. She watched as Benjamin took out the key from his pocket and unlocked the door, a cold glint flashing in her eyes.
It was not that she did not want to go in, but that the room had specially been arranged as a lounge for Credence. Apart from him and Benjamin, no one else had the keys, not even her.
That was also the reason she failed to feel happy even after she fulfilled her wish of being engaged to Credence.
It seemed that Credence subconsciously trusted Benjamin more than her.
Credence had always kept her in the dark about many things, and she had no idea what was going through his mind at all.
Although they were in a relationship, apart from holding hands, the most he had ever done to her was kiss her cheeks and forehead, rarely her lips.
Even during their engagement ceremony, he had only brushed her lips lightly and briefly, and there was no warmth or enthusiasm in his kiss.
None of those things made sense, causing Rosalie to feel scared and uneasy. She wondered if Credence still had Dorothy in his heart.
However, in the few times she had tried to test his reaction by bringing up Dorothy’s name, his face remained strange and indifferent, indicating there was no sign of Dorothy in his memories.
That was a point that made Rosalie feel incredibly distressed and puzzled alike.
He had completely forgotten about Dorothy, and the incident of Rosalie harming Sheldon to frame Dorothy, which meant that six years ago, after Credence’s car accident, the hypnotizing surgery had been a success. However, he was still indifferent to her, as if her existence were dispensable to him. Which part of her plan had gone wrong?
Remembering that it was time to give Credence another hypnotizing dose in the weekend, she glanced around and found an empty corner. She took her phone out and smiled viciously. She made a phone call and asked in a soft and moving voice, “Hey, it’s me! Can you arrange for the doctor to increase the intensity of the hypnosis this weekend?”
Even after hearing that the considerably enhanced hypnotism might cause inestimable side effects on the patient, she only hesitated for less than half a second before saying calmly and heartlessly, “It’s okay, just do as I say. If anything goes wrong, I will take full responsibility for it!”
Rosalie quickly hung up on the call after the other caller fulfilled her request. She turned around and looked at the suite that Credence was in, her cold eyes were filled with uncertainty.
…
Inside the lounge.
As soon as Benjamin entered the living room, he saw a tall man with long legs leaning on the sofa with his eyes closed. A ring of stubble could be seen around his lower jaw, which both accentuated his good-looking face and revealed his exhaustion.
Benjamin suddenly felt a stab of pain in his heart.
Naturally, ever since Dorothy had left, no one took care of Mr. Scott’s body. He would often eat at irregular times. Not only was his stomach getting weaker and weaker, but there were lots of problems in his body, a far cry from the indestructible picture that he gave off.
Hearing the approaching footsteps, Credence put down his slender fingers from his temples. He opened and looked at Benjamin, frowning as he asked, “What is it?”
Benjamin did not immediately hand over the contract, but first placed it aside. He poured a glass of water and handed it to him, saying, “Mr. Scott, money won’t stop pouring in even if you take a break. The most important thing right now is to take care of your health!”
He remembered that Mrs. Scott had once inadvertently mentioned that plain water was much more favorable for his stomach than strong coffee or tea.
Time had passed by quickly. Over the years, he had almost forgotten everything from the past. The only thing that he remembered firmly was Dorothy’s words, which had been firmly engraved in his mind.
Mrs. Scott was a woman of few words, but whatever she said was all very practical.
Each sentence from her was filled with affection!
What a pity…
Benjamin quietly sighed from the bottom of his heart, keeping his thoughts to himself. Seeing that Credence had already drunk more than half of the offered water, he hurriedly picked up a stack of documents from one side and handed it to him. He said, “Mr. Scott, these are all the documents handed over by J&D Group. I have looked through them once, and there are basically no problems with it. The profit that the other party has asked for is also very reasonable.”
“Good.”
Credence nodded lightly and scanned the documents. He quickly used a black pen to sign on the last page. He stared at the red stamp that said ‘J&D Group’, and then thought for a moment. He asked, “Is this Juelz’s Company?”
“Yes, that’s right! Speaking of which, Juelz used to be one of the most famous playboys in Talco City. However, it seems like something big happened overnight and he has turned a new leaf, establishing a small investment company. After only four to five years, he has turned it into a large company that’s only slightly inferior to the Scott Group…”
Speaking of that, Benjamin quietly looked at Credence and found that he did not respond to Juelz’s name at all. He remained extremely calm, so Benjamin could not help but ask, “Mr. Scott, do you know why he named the company J&D Group?”
When faced with Benjamin’s question, Credence remained completely silent.
Benjamin did not have the courage to play around with Credence. He swallowed a mouthful of saliva nervously and said, “He took the initials of his and Dorothy’s first name.”
Credence leaned against the sofa, not speaking. His face was as placid as still water.
In the end, Benjamin really could not hold back his hopes of seeing Credence and Dorothy back together. When Benjamin realized that Credence was not going to say anything, he asked boldly, “Mr. Scott, do you still remember Dorothy? I think I saw her in the elevator just now.”
