“Wh-what? You mean Dorothy eloped with Juelz? How is that possible?”
Jonathan almost bounced from the sofa. He pointed at the man who was sitting in the corner looking gloomy and said in disbelief, “Dorothy loves you with all her heart. She will never have an affair with other people and betray you. I think she is a determined girl with her own principles. Besides, Juelz has approached her for so many years. However, there’s been no real relationship between them. Credence, did you misunderstand her?”
“Misunderstand?”
Credence gripped the wine glass in his hand tightly. He exerted too much force, causing the veins on the back of his hand to pop out, which looked terrifying.
His cold eyes flashed, and his lips slowly curled into a malicious smile, “I saw it with my own eyes.”
“It may not be true, even if you saw it with your own eyes.”
Marvin raised his eyebrows. His words meant a lot.
He used to carry out a lot of difficult and dangerous missions, and he knew that judgment of every situation required substantial evidence, especially love affairs which were easy for one to make groundless accusations of. Other than catching a pair in bed red-handed, it was difficult to determine if there was an affair.
“Marvin is right! There must be something wrong with your eyes. That’s why you didn’t see the truth.”
Jonathan drank a mouthful of red wine. His eyes accidentally met Credence’s cold eyes. He let out a few awkward chuckles as his body stiffened, “Credence, I have a strong feeling that Dorothy will never get together with Juelz behind your back. In my opinion, I would sooner believe that a pig could climb a tree than believe that Dorothy would betray you.”
The spectators see the chess game better than the players. This saying fitted Credence’s current situation precisely.
As an onlooker, Jonathan could see it clearly. Dorothy cared about Credence very much. Faced by Credence’s coldness, she was not discouraged at all. That was definitely true love!
If there was a woman who loved Jonathan with all her heart, without further ado, he would marry her directly and pamper her like a little princess!
“Credence, you really don’t know how to count your blessings. As a happy man who has a wife, you will never understand the sorrow of Marvin and me who are both single.”
Jonathan chattered for a while. Then he fell silent.
Credence, who was sitting alone on the sofa, lowered his gaze. He had drunk a bottle of whiskey and a bottle of Bacardi unknowingly. He was stopped by Marvin when he tried to reach out for more alcohol.
Marvin’s tan face showed a trace of worry, “Credence, don’t drink too much. It will only cause excessive bleeding in your stomach. It won’t solve the problem.”
“Benjamin has been looking for her without resting. Until now, there are no updates about her. It seems like she is determined to leave me!”
Credence frowned and pushed away Marvin’s arm forcefully. He picked up a bottle of liquor with a slightly lower alcohol concentration. He didn’t pour it into the wine glass. Instead, he raised his chin and gulped down the whole bottle of liquor.
As he had not eaten anything, his empty stomach was stimulated greatly. It contracted and spasmed instantly. A piercing pain spread from his stomach to his entire body. He could only feel pain.
Credence endured the stomachache and threw the empty bottle onto the coffee table without any facial expression. He pressed his aching temples with one hand, got up from the sofa, and walked to the French window. He took out his phone to give Benjamin a phone call, “Have you found anything?”
Benjamin, on the other end of the call, trembled with fear, “Mr. Scott, s-sorry. There is no new update for the time being.”
“I’ll give you two more hours. If you can’t figure it out, you’ll be fired!”
The moment he burst out in anger, his gastric pain grew even more unbearable. Credence’s body trembled violently and he coughed intensely. Jonathan handed him a paper towel from behind. He took it and wiped his mouth elegantly. He was shocked when he coughed out blood. The bright red blood stained the white paper towel, which looked terrifying.
“D*mn, Credence, you coughed out blood. Let’s go to the hospital first. Marvin and I will send you there! Don’t waste time. You can only find Dorothy if you are still alive. Let’s go.”
Jonathan failed to persuade the stubborn man. Jonathan was totally speechless. He scrunched up his handsome face and almost pleaded Credence, “Credence, you are sick and need to be treated. It’s pointless to be anxious about Dorothy. Let’s go to the hospital, okay?”
No matter how hard he tried to persuade Credence, it was futile. Credence was too stubborn.
Marvin walked over slowly and steadily, “Credence, you can keep on being stubborn if you want to let Dorothy be with Juelz!”
His words were quite lethal, which was equivalent to Jonathan’s long rambling.
With an ashen face, Credence immediately turned around and walked out of the room. His heavy footsteps gave off a sense of depression.
Jonathan gave a thumbs-up to Marvin and a gaze of appreciation, “Marvin, you are really awesome! I am impressed by you when it comes to persuading Credence.”
“If you spend your time training your mind instead of fooling around with women, you won’t be as dumb as you are now!”
Marvin raised his eyebrows and glanced at Jonathan. He seldom used his sharp tongue.
F*ck, who did he offend?
He was in despair. He had a gloomy expression from being insulted. He followed Marvin and walked out of the room resentfully.
…
In the Municipal Hospital, following Jonathan’s arrangement, a luxurious medical team was assigned to perform a detailed full-body examination on Credence.
Seeing that Credence was getting scanned by various instruments from head to toe, Jonathan was elated.
He would never admit that his purpose of torturing Credence in such a way was just to satisfy his own evil intentions.
Actually, a stomach mirror check would do for the stomach pain.
For the man who was being tormented, there was an obvious darkness in his eyes. He slightly raised his head and closed his narrow eyes. Without any facial expression, his cold thin lips were pursed into a straight line, which made him seem even more merciless.
D*mn it, he was lying in the hospital with a stomachache. However, he still worried about Dorothy.
He used to prioritize his career. He would forget to eat and everything else if he was busy with his work. As time went by, he had succumbed to chronic gastritis and suffered from intermittent pain, which had started since his college graduation until four years ago.
After his marriage, under the careful care of Dorothy, his gastritis did not occur again, until now…
After the body check-up, Jonathan and Marvin helped Credence out of the CT room, flanking him on both sides. Jonathan shook a large bag of medicine in front of the man and said, “Credence, I asked the doctor. You used to have gastritis. You need long-term recuperation to cure it. Remember to take the medicine when you’re home. Three times a day, four pills each time.”
Credence’s footsteps paused, but he didn’t say anything else.
Even though he didn’t say anything, the burning pain in his stomach still rose into his dry throat. Slowly, sweat formed on his forehead, and he seemed to be short of breath. He looked unwell at that moment.
However, he didn’t want to stay in the hospital for treatment, and no one could change his mind.
Marvin understood Credence’s thoughts and blurted out, “This illness is getting more aggressive. It must be because Dorothy is missing.”
Credence paused. As he was about to say something, his phone in his pocket suddenly rang.
He took out it with great effort and looked at the name “Benjamin” on the screen. Credence felt that his arm was so heavy he couldn’t even lift it up to his ear. He shut his eyes tightly and then opened them again, before pressing the answer button.
