Chapter 50 Gambling With Her Life by Acting

Book:My Husband Hates Me Published:2024-5-1

Dorothy came out of Credence’s bedroom on the second floor. She walked down the stairs and arrived at the guest room where she had stayed for four years. After she had washed up and changed into a comfortable cotton dress, she heard a soft knock on the door.
When she heard the soft knock, she was sure that the person who stood outside was not Credence.
It was hard to describe how she felt at that moment. She just felt very disappointed.
Dorothy opened to the door and saw Maria, who held a steaming pot of breakfast in her hands. It was her favorite beef celery dumplings.
She took the dumplings from Maria, and smiled from the bottom of her heart. She felt a few strands of warmth. “Maria, I’m really hungry, so thank you.”
“You don’t have to thank me. It was Mr. Scott who instructed me to prepare it.”
Dorothy, who had disappeared for a long time, finally came back. Maria was very happy about her return, and she could not hide her smile.
She did not know what had happened between Dorothy and Credence during this period. She only knew that after Dorothy’s return, Credence’s attitude changed a little. He specially instructed Maria to make breakfast for Dorothy. It was something that had never happened before.
As Dorothy tried to eat one of the delicious dumplings, she heard Maria’s words, and she did not know whether to continue eating or not. After hesitating for a moment, she calmly put down the bowl and asked, “He instructed you to make them for me?”
“Yes! Mr. Scott finally realized how good you are. He is starting to care about you.”
Maria’s face was filled with smiles as she chattered on, “After so many years, you have finally managed to change Mr. Scott’s mind. I’m really happy for you and Mr. Scott. In the future, when you give birth to a child, I’ll serve you and the baby well…”
When Dorothy heard the word ‘baby’, she felt a sharp pang in her heart. Her hands, which held the bowl of dumplings, shook a little, and the milky soup in the bowl spilled onto her dress and onto the floor. The air was immediately filled with a rich and delicious beef aroma.
“Mrs. Scott, are you alright?”
Maria quickly took the bowl from Dorothy’s hands when she saw the paleness on her face and quickly placed the bowl on the nearby coffee table. Then, she went into the bathroom and took a clean towel to wipe the stain off Dorothy’s clothes. She then squatted down and cleaned up the floor quickly.
“I’m fine.” Dorothy’s face was pale and she shook her head. “I’m full. You can go out now.”
“Okay.”
When Maria was about to pack up and leave, Dorothy’s gentle voice rang.
“Maria, do you still remember the accident when Sheldon fell from the balcony on the second floor of the old manor two years ago?”
“Of course. At that time, Mr. Sheldon’s old housekeeper was always with him. He was not feeling well that day and kept vomiting. He was sent to the hospital early in the morning. I followed you to send Mr. Sheldon a birthday gift that was specially prepared for him. As soon as I brought the gift to Mr. Sheldon’s room, I heard someone outside shouting that Mr. Sheldon had fallen down. They said that, at that time, only you and Mr. Sheldon were on the balcony… Mrs. Scott, I don’t believe it. I know that you are a kind-hearted woman and will never push Mr. Sheldon down.”
When Maria recalled the accident that happened in Scott Manor two years ago, she looked agitated.
It was after that incident that the marriage between Dorothy and Credence, which had been as cold as ice, became even more unstable.
Dorothy smiled bitterly. “Although there are dozens of people in the Fisher family, only you believe that I am innocent.”
“Credence, did you hear that? Even Maria is sure that I was not the culprit who hurt Sheldon, but what about you? You trust me less than a servant does.” Dorothy thought to herself.
Maria saw Dorothy’s pale face and said with concern, “You should get a good rest. Mr. Scott will find out the truth sooner or later, and everyone will know that you are innocent.”
“I hope so.”
Dorothy sighed helplessly. She was not hopeful.
At that time, the truth could not be found out even though Rosalie had not removed all of the evidence. So, how could the truth be revealed now?
After Maria left, Dorothy laid on the bed with a depressed expression. She closed her eyes and wondered what she would do in the future.
When she thought about Credence’s viciousness and hatred for her, she really did not have the courage to continue this loveless and painful marriage.
When she lost her child, she no longer had the idiotic idea that, as long as she stayed with him, it would not matter how cold and violent he was. She could no longer love him without fear of getting hurt.
She thought of her innocent miscarried child, and her beautiful eyes were filled with an irrepressible sorrow.
In a trance, she fell asleep.
When she was half asleep, Dorothy felt dizzy and wanted to vomit. She hurriedly got up from the bed, rushed into the bathroom, leaned over the toilet bowl, and vomited. After she vomited all the dumplings she ate, she vomited her stomach acid, and she almost choked with tears.

In the study, Credence crossed his long legs and dealt with the company’s emergency documents on his desk. Benjamin called him and said, “Mr. Scott, there is a high-level management meeting at three o’clock in the afternoon today that you need to personally chair.”
“Okay.”
Credence signed the last document, took two sips of the warm coffee, and spoke casually.
He looked down at his watch and saw that it was 1. 50 pm. It was about an hour’s drive to the company and it was about time to set off.
He stood up suddenly, put on his black suit and tie, and walked out of the study with his long legs, directly going downstairs. When he passed through the living room, he turned and walked toward the guest room that Dorothy was staying in.
Just as he reached the door, through the unlatched gap, Credence could vaguely hear Dorothy’s painful and hoarse voice.
He was startled.
His body reacted faster than his brain did.
He opened the door with his big hand and walked in quickly.
He frowned and looked around. If she was not in the bedroom, she was likely in the bathroom.
At that moment, Dorothy had vomited for a long time. She endured the dizziness and was about to stand up when she suddenly felt dizzy again. Her whole body fell to the ground like a bird with broken wings…
Credence’s pupils contracted slightly when he saw this. He hastily stepped in and reached out to hold Dorothy in his arms. He carried her out of the smelly and uncomfortable place.
“Cre-Credence, what are you going to do?”
When the dizziness subsided a little, Dorothy slowly opened her eyes and found that Credence had carried her into the back seat of his car. Then, his tall body pressed her down with great force until she almost could not breathe properly.
“What can I do to you when you are like this?”
His dark eyes were filled with anger. He was mad at Dorothy who was sick and weak, but she insisted on not telling him.
In his fury, he could not control his strength. With anger and desire in his body, he bent over and kissed Dorothy’s slightly pale but perfect lips.
“No…”
Pained, Dorothy shook her head to avoid the kiss.
It was not until he felt that the punishment was enough that he let go of Dorothy’s body. He straightened his body and resumed his gentle and elegant appearance. He stared at her coldly. “You are sick, therefore I gave you some fresh air.”
Dorothy got up from the back seat and sat a little further away from Credence. She could not tell if he was being serious or not. She lightly replied “thank you” and did not say anything else.
His thoughts were unfathomable. She was really not in the mood to guess.
Halfway through the journey, Credence received a call from Benjamin, who asked him respectfully about the time he would arrive at the company.
His eyes fell on Dorothy’s face, which was thinner than before, and he hid his distress. He frowned, “My woman is sick. I will arrive a little later.”
Dorothy’s heart pounded when she heard him say ‘my woman’.
No one knew what Benjamin said on the phone. After hanging up the phone, Credence frowned and looked out of the window without saying a word.
Dorothy’s throbbing heart returned to silence, and she secretly mocked herself, “He just said that casually. Dorothy, don’t be hopeful.”
They arrived at the municipal hospital under Jonathan’s name in silence and awkwardness. Dorothy could not resist Credence’s insistence. He dragged her to do a full-body physical examination, except for the obstetrics and gynecology.
It might be because she just had a surgery on the uterus, therefore he deliberately avoided this examination.
In the end, the doctor concluded that she had an acute cold caused by hypoglycemia and he gave her a few boxes of prescription medicine. Following Credence’s insistence, she was admitted into the hospital for three days.
Dorothy could only agree to it.
The two of them walked silently into the ward, one after the other. Credence picked up the half-filled glass of water and handed it to Dorothy. He looked like a gentleman, “Take your medicine first.”
Dorothy raised her head and looked at him with her beautiful watery eyes. “If you have something to do, you can leave. I can take care of myself.”
In front of him, she rarely acted like a spoiled child.
In the past, when she caught a cold or had a fever, she would go to the hospital alone. At most, she would bring Maria with her.
It was not that she did not think to call Credence to ask for comfort and help when she was weak, but every time she did, he refused her coldly.
As time went by, she no longer harbored any expectation nor hope in him.
Credence looked at Dorothy with his black eyes, and a trace of loss and bitterness flashed across her face. He probably figured out what she was thinking at the moment, and his heart tightened for no reason. He uttered in a soft voice, “No rush, I’ll go to the office after I see you take all your medicine.”
As soon as he finished speaking, his mobile phone rang.
Dorothy glanced at the word ‘Rosalie’ that was displayed on the screen. With her slender fingers, she silently tightened her hold on the glass in her hand.
Credence did not go far. He stood still and answered the phone.
However, he did not use the speaker. Therefore, Dorothy could not hear what Rosalie said to him over the phone.
After a while, Credence hung up the phone. He frowned and said, “Rosalie’s body is rejecting the kidney that was transplanted into her body. I’ll go there right away.”
“Ok.”
Dorothy nodded her head slightly.
He was worried about Rosalie’s condition. What else could Dorothy say?
She could never compete with Rosalie who was gambling with her life by acting.
After Credence left, Dorothy forgot to take the medicine. She followed Credence out sullenly, leaned against the wall of the corridor, and stood in a daze.
A woman passed by her and was just about to turn around, when she came back abruptly, and quickly walked toward Dorothy!
