Credence actions were very swift.
It took less than ten minutes for him to arrive at the hospital from the hotel.
Dorothy climbed out of the black Maybach. She realized she seemed to have lost all her emotions related to the kidney donation. Seeing Credence furrowing his brows with a trace of worry on his face because of Rosalie’s illness, surprisingly, she did not feel anything.
In Credence’s heart, the only woman he cared about was Rosalie, not her.
He would not hesitate even if she had to sacrifice her life to save Rosalie’s, let alone donating a kidney!
Although she and Rosalie were not related by blood, her kidney was miraculously very compatible with Rosalie’s.
In that case, she would just treat it as repaying the Fisher family for raising her.
It was sad to think that she would be losing a healthy kidney after losing her husband and child.
How pathetic!
Deep down, Dorothy gave a wry, self-mocking smile. She straightened her back and glanced over at Credence, who was walking ahead of her in a hurry. Then, she said slowly, “Credence, before I donate my kidney, please get the divorce agreement ready and pass it to me.”
It was not that she did not trust him, but she would not feel secure without the divorce agreement.
Also, she was very aware of his ability.
Only if he was letting her go voluntarily that he would not make things hard for her ever again.
If she escaped without his permission, he would torture her to no end…
To put it bluntly, it had nothing to do with love. Instead, it was because of his desire to control her.
If he wanted her to live, she would live. And if he wanted her to die, she would die. She would never have a say.
Credence turned to look at Dorothy. Unexpectedly, he did not lose his cool. With an indecipherable expression, he said, “Your kidney might not be needed at all.”
Apparently, since the day that Dorothy allegedly stabbed Rosalie, he had used a lot of manpower and resources to search for a kidney that matched Rosalie’s from organ banks all over the world.
Unfortunately, he had not been able to find a suitable match until now.
He decided to wait for a while more. Perhaps, there would be a match at the last minute.
He was still in a dilemma. Should Dorothy donate her kidney to Rosalie?
Once the deal was over, Dorothy would be leaving him. She would disappear from his world forever. At the thought of this, Credence’s heart felt inexplicably stuffy. He lit a cigarette and took a long drag. There were somewhat hastiness and helplessness in his actions.
“Are you that desperate to divorce me?”
He suddenly stopped in his tracks. Staring at Dorothy’s emotionless face, he realized the joy and enthusiasm that she once had for him were gone. Although it was a summer night, he felt cold all over.
“Yes.” Looking straight into his eyes, she said calmly.
“You don’t love me, and I don’t love you anymore. Isn’t this reason enough?”
She said she didn’t love him anymore.
Her words kept repeating in Credence’s mind.
His brows were drawn together as he closed his eyes to conceal his anger. Then, he took a drag of his cigarette.
Due to the lingering smoke, his face was faintly visible. It had also obscured the complicated emotions that were showing on his face.
“Sure, I’ll get the divorce agreement ready before you go for the surgery.”
Credence removed the cigarette from his mouth and stubbed it out with his fingers. His intimidating aura made Dorothy’s heart almost stop beating.
His expression at the moment was exceptionally calm. His lips curved into a faint smile as he said, “Dorothy, once you leave me, don’t regret it!”
What was there to regret?
He was just a man who did not love her.
Dorothy looked up and gave him a bright smile. “I won’t regret it!”
Her relieved smile stung Credence’s eyes. He turned around and strode into the hospital lobby. His right hand, which was hanging next to his waist, was clenched into a fist. Blue veins could be seen bulging on the back of his hand, which made one shudder.
Dorothy threw a glance at it but pretended not to see it. She then followed Credence to Rosalie’s ward.
As soon as she entered the ward, she was greeted with a slap on the face, followed by Linda’s sharp cries.
“B*tch! Rosie is about to die because of you. Are you happy now? Are you satisfied? I’m telling you, don’t even dream about it. Credence will never watch her die. He promised to have you donate your kidney to Rosie… When Rosie recovers, I’ll deal with you. Just you wait!”
Linda glared viciously at Dorothy. She resisted the urge to stab Dorothy on behalf of Rosalie.
Sensing Credence’s cold gaze directing at her, Linda dared not act too arrogantly. She stealthily pinched her waist and squeezed out a few drops of tears. “Credence, I have no other intention. I just want to seek justice for Rosie. Although Dorothy is just my adopted daughter, our family has always treated her as our own daughter. We have never mistreated her, but she has been cruel and hurt Rosie again and again. My poor Rosie is such a kind and obedient girl. She has never caused any trouble. Why did she have to suffer so much?”
“Mom, I’ll repeat. I’ve never done anything to your daughter. What happened to her had nothing to do with me. As for this slap and my kidney, it’s to return your kindness for raising me.”
Dorothy raised her hand and touched her left cheek where Linda had just slapped, as if the person who had just been slapped across the face was not her. She quietly looked around and finally fixed her eyes on Rosalie, who was lying motionlessly on the bed.
Even with such a huge commotion around her, Rosalie’s eyes were tightly shut, having no response at all. No one knew if she had fallen asleep, or if she had passed out.
But all of these had nothing to do with Dorothy.
Once the deal was over, Credence, Rosalie, and all the Fishers would have nothing to do with her anymore.
At this time, Linda shouted at Dorothy once again, “You’re still aware that we’ve brought you up, huh? Do you think that a kidney is enough to repay our kindness? No way! From now on, you must be our slave and serve us for the rest of your life until we are willing to forgive you!”
Dorothy was dumbfounded.
Had she not done enough for them over the years?
Every month, she gave Linda all her allowance from Credence. She did not spare a single penny for herself. Because of that, she was so broke that she had to skip meals often. She treated the Fisher family with all her heart and soul, but in the end, she still failed to earn their affection.
No matter how much she sacrificed, she could not get their approval; no matter how devoted she was, she could not win their hearts.
Dorothy turned back and looked at Linda, whose face was ablaze with anger. She smiled at Linda gently, “Mom, I’ve lived for 26 years, and I’ve never done anything wrong to you, nor to the Fisher family. I hope you could at least have a conscience.”
Credence suddenly looked up at Dorothy. Staring at her empty and cold eyes, he had a ridiculous feeling of being abandoned by her.
Meanwhile, someone knocked on the door. Then, a few doctors entered the room one after another. They proceeded to perform a full-body examination on Rosalie. After that, the attending doctor reported to Credence, “Mr. Scott, although we have transfused enough blood into Miss Rosalie, her condition is still declining. I hope that you can find a matching kidney as soon as possible. Her kidneys are slowly deteriorating. It does not look optimistic!”
Credence narrowed his eyes. He resisted the urge to break the agreement with Dorothy and asked coldly, “How much time do I have?”
“Must before midnight tomorrow.”
The doctor cleared his throat and continued to explain, “If the organ transplantation is completed within this time period, transplant rejection is less likely to develop. Even if it does happen, it would only be a mild reaction. It would not affect the recovery of Miss Rosalie.”
Upon hearing that, Linda pointed at Dorothy and shouted, “Did you hear that? What are you waiting for? Drag her into the operating room to save Rosie right away! The sooner the better!”
Credence blinked and turned to face Linda. With a cold face, he said, “I know what to do.”
Linda’s face turned pale instantly, and her legs went weak. Not moving an inch, she merely stared at his terrifying, grim face with her mouth agape. However, she dared not say a word anymore.
…
That night, Dorothy slept in the ward next to Rosalie’s.
In the middle of the night, she was awakened by a nightmare. When she was about to get up from the bed, she discovered there was a strong force wrapping her waist.
Under the faint bedside light, Dorothy noticed there was a man lying next to her. Both of his arms were hugging her tightly. She could not move at all.
Also, her face was pressed against his hard chest.
