Mia’s pov
Aisha was a very bubbly girl, way more bubbly than I anticipated, and I was living for it.
We had both some weeks ago, on that particular night whereby I had overheard that cursed phone call of Lorenzo which had made me come to the conclusion that I was the one being referred to in the phone call. That same night I had been ganged up on in the bathroom by Lily and her other friends, but I had thankfully been saved by her arrival.
We had exchanged contacts after that and had both promised to keep in touch. Since she was yet to reach out to me and I was bored and had nothing else to do, I decided to reach out to her. It didn’t take her long to respond and she made sure to reveal how excited she was to have gotten my text.
We talked for a few moments before we both agreed to meet in a few days at a restaurant, and here we are right now.
We exchanged a hug on meeting each other and after the hug, something told me that we were gonna be great friends.
My guards had been adamant about standing behind me at the restaurant despite how much I tried to get them to give me some privacy with my new friend. It had felt extremely embarrassing and I had assumed Aisha wasn’t gonna be cool with that and was gonna be weirded out, but it was the complete opposite. She found that extremely cool and wished she had bodyguards of her own, but she claimed that she wasn’t relevant enough to have bodyguards guarding her 24/7.
After that, things moved extremely smoothly between us. Apparently, she felt like Lorenzo was extremely obsessed with me and that she wanted something like that with someone. As we talked more, I began to discover more things about her, and that was how I got to know that she was present at that function that night not as someone’s significant other, but because she had been present by accompanying her brother.
Apparently she was already ripe for marriage so her brother was helping her search for a husband because he didn’t want her to get married to someone extremely older than her, which is why he’s sourcing for a husband which doesn’t have a lot of bad tracks compared to all the other men in the mafia world.
“My brother is very protective of me. Of course my father doesn’t agree with him on this topic. My father wanted to marry me off to his friend, but my brother wasn’t having any of that because he now has more authority compared to my father now that he had succeeded him, which is why my father now almost had little to no say in this matter.” She explained and I felt genuine relief for her that she had someone who cares for her to this extent. This was what I assumed I shared with my twin, I used to think we both shared a bond that could never be broken, but that was before she went ahead and ran away, leaving me to take her fall, and she did that without looking back.
“That’s honestly a very great thing to hear. I wish more young girls in our world were opportune to have someone like your brother in their lives, that way, the chances of them ending up with a horrible husband is next to none.”
She agreed with me wholeheartedly and one thing led to another till we were talking about my wedding, more like my sister’s own, which I had to show up at as the bride. She claimed to have been in the congregation that day because her family had received an invite, and then she claimed that she had been extremely shocked when news spread around that my new husband had been killed and that I had been abducted. She said everyone knew it was Lorenzo because he never bothered to hide it and that everyone was super sorry for me because they all felt like Romero was a better option than Lorenzo, whom everyone sees as the devil.
If only they knew.
Then she went ahead to clarify that she doesn’t believe that anymore, that telling from how I was always hanging off his arms and how he always looked at me, that I was lucky to have been taken from Romero, because that way, Lorenzo saved me from a very unfortunate life.
Aisha and I spent some more time together before I settled the bill, and despite how much she offered to cover her own bill, I insisted on taking care of hers since I was the one who invited her to come out today. She whistled on noticing the black card I used in paying and I only rolled my eyes while feeling a little shy. She felt like a fresh breath of air in my life in a moment like this and I knew damn well that I definitely wanna hang out with her once again.
“We should definitely hang out again.” She suggested as we exited the restaurant and I shot her a grin. “You know what? I was just thinking of the same thing!” I admitted and we both giggled before exchanging a hug, which was significantly longer this time.
After bidding her goodbye, I got into the back of the car which got held open by one of the guards and after a few more moments, we began to head home.
Throughout the ride, now that I was alone in my thoughts once again, as expected, Lorenzo flooded into every inch of my mind; taking up every space.
The almost kiss we shared last night flooded my mind and I bit my lip before forcing that thought to the back of my mind, while reminding myself that it meant nothing because this wasn’t the first time that Lorenzo was doing something like that.
This was all a game to someone like Lorenzo– he was like a wild animal who loves to have fun with his prey before finally eating them up.
