Mia’s pov
“Did you mean I’m supposed to mesh it this way?” I asked without glancing away from the bowl of potatoes staring back at me.
I was starting to learn how to prepare some food, and on telling Kat about it, she was only too happy to help me learn.
I had no idea cooking was this pleasant until after I actually got involved in it, even though I’m just still learning.
I wasn’t doing this because I used to have a passion for it. Cooking was something that has never crossed my mind before. Apart from the times Lorenzo forced me to cook, I’ve never attempted it: but now that I was trying it out oh my own free will, without any sort of pressure, it felt really nice.
Girls birthed into mafia families aren’t even expected to learn how to cook, because it’s expected that every family would have their personal cooks and maids.
While growing up, I learned multiple languages at once, how to play three musical instruments and some other things, which was why learning how to cook was never expected of girls birthed into mafia families.
When I approached Kat at first, it was because I was almost going out of my mind from boredom, but after I began to learn, I realized that I genuinely wanted to learn how to cook.
“Yeah, you do it like that, just… a little bit harder.” She responded after coming to stare into the bowl which I was still staring into. I flashed her a small smile before resuming the meshing.
Kat suggested we make potato and chicken meshed and fried together, and we’ve spent almost an hour in here so far.
“You can do it a little harder than that. All that matters is that it becomes a really smooth texture at the end.” Kat vommebted after a few moments of watching me work. I nodded my head in response without glancing away from the bowl, adding more strength to the movements of my hands.
I concentrated on what I was doing, while feeling glad with myself that I had went ahead to ask Kat for this, because if I hadn’t, then I’d still be unable to get Lorenzo out of my head.
After that particular evening when he had arrived home bleeding, which had ended with him flinging a knife my way to rile me up on purpose, I had been avoiding hin ever since. It was starting like some sort of routine, to always avoid each other while literally living in the same house.
Not that I was complaining because I most definitely do not want to set my eyes on him for now, much less speak on him.
“What next?” I asked after turning around to regard Kat with a curious look dancing over my face. She was currently working on the chicken which had been boiled with some seasoning minutes ago. She was taking out the bones from the drumsticks, and I watched in fascination as she took out the chicken effortlessly from bones.
“What are you going to do with them?” I asked and she glanced up at me to respond. “Oh, these? I’m going to slice them all once I’m done, then it would be mixed with the mashed potatoes.”
“Ohh.” I murmured while nodding my head slowly like I understood what she meant even though I actually do not.
“That sounds nice.” I offered and as if noticing my cluelessness, she chuckled for a few seconds.
“Then, we’re going to mold the chicken and mashed potato on the drumsticks and have them fried.” She continued and that actually sounded like it made more sense, and so I nodded st her in understanding before I asked her what I could do next.
“You can actually just watch from here, I don’t want you to do too much things anyways.” She breathed out as she got back to dicing the chicken. I felt taken aback by her response, which prompted me into demanding what she meant.
“Oh no, what I meant was that, I’m not sure Mr. Dominico would be pleased should he find out that I’m making you dirty your hands in here to begin with.” She explained, and that actually made me snort a little because it felt ridiculous to hear that right now.
“What? You didn’t force me in here after all, I came in here on my own, so I’m sure he wouldn’t even care.” I explained to her with a wave of my hand and an eye roll because an image of Lorenzo demanding I prepare him a meal no matter what, flashed through my mind at that moment. Someone like him would even be glad to see that I’m actually learning something in the kitchen right now.
“I’m still not sure, ‘ma’am.” She responded and I almost rolled my eyes as I gently reminded her once again to refer to me as Mia, because I most definitely wouldn’t mind that she refer to me by my first name.
After that, Kat reluctantly allowed me to help out some more, and even though she didn’t still let me do anything complex, I felt satisfied that she let me do more things at least.
That was a really pleasant start between us, which I’m really glad about.

I was climbing up the stairs when Lorenzo suddenly appeared from the very top, hands deep in his pockets. I instantly froze, because this was the first time we’d be seeing each other in almost a week, and also because I had assumed he had left the house this early morning.
He cocked his head sideways and motioned me forward with a crook of his left hand. I bit on my bottom lip and hesitated a little before slowly climbing up the stairs until I was standing beside him, with a little inches separately us.
He was currently clad in a tank top and I pointedly refused to stare at the part in his arm which is currently in a bandage.
Lorenzo stared at me for a few moments longer before speaking.
“Be ready in a few hours. We have somewhere to attend tonight. Dress sexy but also elegantly. Something short. Don’t keep me waiting.”
And then we climbed down the stairs without glancing back at me once.
