Mia’s pov
As soon as the door closed in our faces, I felt myself tense up in Lorenzo’s arms, making it almost hard for me to breathe as we began to walk towards his car until he dropped his hand.
I was looking at everywhere but at him, while wondering if I had overstepped in there, not knowing how Lorenzo actually felt about the girl, and if he had liked that I had gotten into a fight with that Lily girl.
After a few moments, I blurted out the next words that came to mind.
“I wasn’t the one who started the fight.”
Lorenzo remained silent after that, and the only indication that he had indeed heard what I had said was the little arch of his eyebrow as he regarded me with a flat look, which made me avert my gaze.
“I wasn’t the one who hit her first, or-” I continued after a few seconds because I couldn’t stop the words from coming forth, but the words died on my tongue when Lorenzo abruptly stopped walking.
Not knowing what to expect from him, I stopped walking as well, and almost immediately, he began to speak.
“I know you didn’t start the fight first.”
The breath that I hadn’t even realized I had been holding slowly eased out of my lungs and I found myself nodding my head a little, just as Lorenzo resumed walking once again, just as the man who had collected Lorenzo’s keys when we had arrived here, brought the car to the spot which Lorenzo stopped in.
When we got into the car, I closed my eyes immediately, wanting to pretend like I was already asleep to avoid any sort of awkward back and forth between Lorenzo and I.
“I know she was the one who made the first move, that was pretty obvious. If her parents aren’t pathetic excuses for parents, they’d be able to see that too.” Lorenzo’s voice was smooth as he spoke, and that prompted my eyes into flying open almost immediately.
Lorenzo let out a snort on noticing my opened eyes but refrained from commenting on that. The car ride was silent but I chose to keep my eyes open throughout the rest of the ride.
After about half an hour, Lorenzo began to speak.
“I believed you from the start. I knew she only picked a fight with you because of me, and also because of you.” Lorenzo continued and I found myself blinking down at my fingers in confusion.
“Me?” I echoed out in an unsure voice.
Lorenzo gave a single nod, eyes never leaving the road for / second. “Yes, you. She was also jealous because of how good looking you are compared to her.”
My eyes widened further at Lorenzo’s response, prompting another snort and an eye roll from Lorenzo.
“What? Don’t try to act like you didn’t notice how ugly she was, and how her beauty couldn’t hold a candle to yours, I mean, you were in the restroom with her for a long time. I made sure to stop her parents from coming to check on her because I was hoping you’d have dealt with her, since I already knew she was going to start something when she accompanied you to the restroom.”
As Lorenzo’s spoke, my eyes continued to get even wider in shock, and even though I heard all that he said clearly, my mind only clung to the start of all that he had said, about my looks.
“You think I’m good looking?” I found myself without thinking, and as soon as the question was out of my mouth, my eyes widened in shock and I bit hard on my bottom lip. Lorenzo’s eyes left the road for a moment to regard me with something unidentifiable in his eyes.
“I never said that.” He responded flatly and I swallowed emptily, nodding vigorously. A few moments passed before Lorenzo’s voice filled up the car. “But, that’s clearly obvious to everyone with a working pair of eyes.”
My heart stuttered as his response sank into my chest, and not knowing how to actually respond to that, I pretended like I hadn’t heard him, choosing to bite on my bottom lip and stare out the window until we arrived at the house once again.

Lorenzo went straight into his office and I hurried into my bedroom, feeling like my heart was about to burst out of my chest. After succeeding in calming myself down, I undressed and showered, and as I was drying up, I noticed a bruise already forming at the side of my cheek which Lily had slapped really hard, making an irritated scowl to form on my face.
I briefly remembered Lorenzo saying Lily had fought me because she was jealous of my beauty, which sounded kind of absurd to me.
After dressing up in a pair of night gown which I could lay my hand on, I made my way downstairs, remembering that I move sighted a first aid box down in the kitchen.
On getting there, I was dabbing a warm cloth against the spot while letting my mind wander away, which is probably why I hadn’t realized that I wasn’t the only one in the kitchen until when I was putting the soft towel back in place, when I noticed Lorenzo leaning against the other side of the counter.
He was still dressed in the outfit from dinner, but he had lost his suit jacket, and the sleeves of his shirt had been rolled up, and the top part of his shirt was hanging open, revealing an expanse of his chest, which I hastily averted my gaze from.
I put the ointment on the spot of my cheeks, lightly massaging it into my skin and praying it doesn’t leave a really purple spot behind tomorrow.
“I see you do bruise easily, huh?” Lorenzo’s voice filled the kitchen and I jolted a little.
I glanced back at him and gave a stiff nod of my head, noticing that the look on his face was like he was about to say something else.
“I bruise easily, the downside of having sensitive skin.” I responded, not expecting a response, and indeed, all I got was a grunt.
After about a minute, I put the ointment away and made it obvious that I was leaving the kitchen, in order for Lorenzo to say whatever it was that he wanted to say, but, Lorenzo remained silent.
When I got to the entrance of the kitchen, I called out a soft, hesitant ‘good night’, and as expected, all I got in response was silence.
