When we finally returned back to Lorenzo’s mansion, I was feeling both physically and mentally exhausted. The only thing that I wanted to do right now, is to crash into the nearest bed, but Lorenzo had pulled me along with him and said that there was something that he had to deal with again tonight.
He was still looking very angry, and now I know that the anger was directed at me which made me even more scared.
“You should know that you are posing as my significant other and even if it is just an act, you need to play it well… you can’t allow tramps like that to step all over you.”
I was surprised that his advice actually sounded genuinely concerned instead of just insulting and I nodded, not feeling as berated as I’d expected to be.
He had been the one to remind me to keep a low profile at the party anyway.
After he told me that, he finally permitted me to go to bed and rest, and as I was at the top of the stairs, I pause hesitantly, deciding that it would be a little rude to just go to bed without even thanking him for the night.
The way he had handled that scene of those girls bullying me was still ringing in my head.
With that thought in mind, I turned around to thank him, but then I froze in a spot when I looked down and saw some of the hefty men who had accompanied us to the party. They were all standing before with their heads lowered before Lorenzo who was sitting down with his legs crossed, on a couch.
All of them seem to be shaking as if they had been drenched with cold water. I was feeling pity for them, not even realising what was wrong or why they were so afraid of right now.
Lorenzo stood up, not aware of my presence yet.
“What were you all doing while those two tramps were harassing my woman?”
A shiver immediately found its way down my spine at Gus words. The anger in his voice was unmistakable.
Though I couldn’t say the same for his anger.
He wasn’t yelling at them openly, but yet the silent threat that was in his words, made me shiver even though the words were not directed at me.
It was obvious that he was furious and boiling on the insides, but just trying to keep it together.
“We didn’t know that they were trying to harass her, we just saw that they were socializing with her…”
One of them finally managed to speak and then Lorenzo stood up and went to the other one that was standing next to the one that has spoken since they were three of them standing there. He grabbed the man’s neck and pushed him down to the table as if he only weighed a feather.
“Now you know I’m not the kind that likes mistakes, the next time something like this happens again under your watch…”
His words faded away but the man that was under his neck and the other ones immediately began to tremble in fear, they could all sense the threats that were in his words.
Even though Lorenzo has threatened me several times nothing felt as frightening as this. I didn’t know that there was something as secondhand fear but I was definitely feeling it now or whatever it was called. It was almost as if I was the one that had my head slammed against the table right now.
Then all of a sudden he looked up directly at me and our eyes instantly locked. I froze under those blue eyes, unable to move, unable to properly breathe and also unable to get a word out.
When I inally I found my breath, I tore my gaze away from his and ran up the stairs efore he could say order me to come towards him.
I kept running until I finally reached my room and then I slammed the door shut behind me, crashing on the bed breathing heavily.
There was something about his eyes then that made my blood immediately ran cold when I saw them land on me, and If looks could really kill, then that look that he gave me would have been enough to send me six feet under.
Suddenly I heard a knock on my door but before I could respond to it, my door had already creaked open and Lorenzo was standing there.
“Is there something that you wanted to tell me?”
He asked in a voice that sounded suspiciously neutral, while regarding me with an unreadable expression.
I shook my head a little bit, and when I saw he was not satisfied with my answer, I finally opened up and told him that I just wanted to thank him for tonight, and for the dress.
“I wasn’t doing it for you, it was for my image. I couldn’t have you wearing rags because that will make me look bad.” He spat out.
I wondered if it would have been so hard if he’d just simply said that I was welcomed for the gratitude that I was showing to him.
“Well, even if it was just for your image, I still wanted to thank you…”
I said firmly and then his eyes settled on me once again. They seemed to almost be glowing as he approached me and then before I could even attempt to crawl backwards on the bed, he lifted my chin up with his fingers so that my eyes were gazing into his.
“It seems like you are becoming very confident in the way you speak to me, but I don’t want you to forget who is in charge… and who is practically holding your life on a very thin line. One little mistake an-”
“And you’ll shoot me,” I said, completing his sentence on his behalf because he had told me this same thing countless times. There was a little trace of fear in my voice as I spoke, but also acceptance and tiredness.
“I know that you can do all of those things to me and so much more, you’ve made sure I always have that at the back of my mind. I also haven’t forgotten that you kidnapped me and I’m now, therefore, your property.”
I sighed, and when he kept regarding me with nothing but silence, I continued.
“If that’s all, then goodnight,”
