Chapter 238: Happy Ending

Book:Alpha's Rise and Luna's Love Published:2024-6-4

Maggie waited at the entrance of the Blue Moon Pack, accompanied by Grace. Grace was eager to know if the Elder brought back Ethan’s remains, but looking at the two returning figures empty-handed, it didn’t seem like they had Ethan’s body.
She felt a bit disappointed. Was it really not possible? But it didn’t matter; she could always make another trip to the Frost Moon Pack in the future.
Maggie, standing beside her, gave her a quick glance and could roughly guess what was on her mind. She tightly held Grace’s hand, flipping her palm over and holding it firmly. Grace looked up, colliding directly into Maggie’s worried eyes.
“I’m sorry,” she apologized instinctively. “I’ve been like this lately, making people worry for me.”
Maggie sighed. Grace had physically recovered well, but psychologically, it seemed like she had lingering trauma. Maggie wasn’t sure if it was clinical post-traumatic stress disorder, but the symptoms didn’t seem to match. Who with PTSD apologized so readily?
“Don’t apologize.” Maggie shifted her gaze back to the two figures approaching. “You’re not wrong, and even if there’s any wrongdoing, it’s someone else’s fault. So don’t apologize.”
Urania followed the Elder at a leisurely pace and could see Maggie and Grace from a distance.
This little girl was really loyal. Every time, she was like this, even with Marvin. Even though Marvin was reckless, causing trouble every day, she still faithfully followed behind him, cleaning up after him. Later, when she became the Luna of the Blue Moon Pack, she oddly didn’t fall in love, sticking to propriety with Aldrich for so long. Even occasional intimate moments were for the sake of reproduction, devoid of desire. Now, she had fallen for a rogue, a deceased rogue at that.
Urania had long wanted Grace to find a reliable man to love. At the very least, not loving someone wasn’t a big problem. She hadn’t loved anyone in all these years. The immortal might be her only concern when she was still a mortal. After that, there was nothing. Many years had passed, and she was still happy. But Grace fell for some inexplicable guys, like Marvin, who was useless and couldn’t hold up a wall. It was reluctantly considered childhood sweetheart affection, combined with a bit of a sense of justice, that made Ethan utterly incomprehensible to her.
But Grace’s eyes were too sincere, as if this was truly her only desire in life.
Urania gestured for the Elder to explain things to her. The Elder then clarified Alex’s words, “Moving the remains too far wouldn’t be good. His body has been through some turmoil, so he wants you to choose a suitable grave for Ethan. Once you decide, he’ll move Ethan’s body there. He said Ethan’s mother and grandmother would be buried there too.”
Grace’s eyes welled up with moisture. This seemed alright; he didn’t have a chance to meet his mother in life, but in death, at least the family could reunite.
Sometimes the cost of reunification was unexpectedly high.
“I’ll choose carefully.”
And so, the matters of the Frost Moon Pack should be considered concluded.
Afterward, the newly appointed alpha of the Frost Moon Pack made a special visit to the Blue Moon Pack. The two tribes signed a peace agreement; it wasn’t extensive, and there were no controversial parts. It mainly focused on building a good relationship between the two packs. The Blue Moon Pack would provide suitable living spaces, and the Frost Moon Pack could borrow troops when needed. It was all typical negotiation, exchanging what one had for what the other lacked, and they quickly reached a consensus.
Aldrich sighed deeply, finally releasing the pent-up resentment that had lingered in his heart for so long. After Ethan abdicated his responsibilities, most of the rogue wolves at the border had moved southward, perhaps heading west. Aldrich had recruited the ones who were left, those unwilling to cause trouble, and suppressed those who wanted to stir up chaos.
Now, he could finally let Maggie focus on her pregnancy. While she was supposedly “resting,” Maggie spent her days either studying magic with Urania and Mrs. Jenkins or taking walks with Elizabeth.
“Aldrich, I’m so bored.” Having endured until the last two months, Maggie’s boredom peaked. She wished Alisa could be there with her, but Alisa had recently conveyed that the development of the medicine was in its final stages. Maggie would have to wait until Alisa finished her mission and returned.
Grace was also busy lately with the Elder Council’s affairs. She dealt with various people and coordination, leaving her with hardly any free time. Grace had promised to come and keep her company, but the guards reported that no one had been around recently. The guards had started to respect Maggie; although she hadn’t publicly revealed her role as the Moon Goddess, people’s attitudes towards her were gradually changing for the better.
Aldrich cradled her face in his hands. He, too, had been a bit lax lately. With most of the pressing matters attended to, the sudden idle days made him somewhat uneasy. The Elder had assured him that the results of the Alpha election were basically confirmed, so he didn’t need to worry about that. His main task was to take care of Maggie.
“But these boring days are also precious. Isn’t what we’ve been looking forward to all along these peaceful, uneventful days? No wars, no troublemakers, just everyone living their lives calmly.”
Maggie thought about it and found some truth in his words.
The day of delivery arrived quickly. Alisa and Marvin managed to finish the medicine’s development just before Maggie went into labor. They rushed back from the human world, barely making it in time to see the newborn twins outside the delivery room.
Marvin frowned. “Why do babies look all wrinkly? They’re kinda ugly.”
Alisa secretly kicked him. “All newborns look like this. You were probably ugly when you were born too.”
Aldrich, unusually not bothered by his eccentric brother’s offense, asked, “Do you want to give them names?”
“The boy will be Darren.”
The name sounded good, and both brothers thought of it simultaneously.
“What about the girl?”
Grace arrived by then. “Let’s name her Chloe. How does that sound?”
Chloe was also a good name; everyone agreed.
They gathered around Maggie’s bedside. Maggie, panting, still felt a bit dazed from giving birth.
“Have you named the kids?” Maggie didn’t like this brainstorming activity and preferred leaving it to Alisa, the knowledgeable one.
“The boy is Darren, and the girl is Chloe.”
Maggie smiled. “Those names are lovely.”
Aldrich bent down to kiss his beloved. “Thank you, Maggie. I love you.”
Maggie nestled in his arms, blissful. “I love you too.”
The sound of the babies’ cries echoed from the delivery room. Everyone exchanged smiles, knowing that good days were starting now, and every tomorrow would bring a better life.
