Chapter 222: Going Somewhere

Grace emerged from the bathroom, and Ethan’s peaceful sleeping face adorned the couch. If you ignored all the mischief he had caused, you might think that spending the rest of your life with such an outstanding man wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Unfortunately, that thought couldn’t become a reality. Because the man before her not only committed numerous misdeeds but also harbored a mind full of schemes. Moreover, he was an extremely cold-blooded monster. Perhaps it wasn’t only due to his hybrid lineage of half-wolf and half-vampire but also a result of his father’s failed upbringing.
Nevertheless, no matter what, these things should come to an end. Grace looked at him, thinking about putting a period to his suffering and everyone else’s.
She shook Ethan awake, the action not particularly gentle. He seemed a bit disoriented, “What’s up, little wolf? Why such force all of a sudden? Are you planning to kill me while I’m vulnerable?”
As expected, nothing good came out of this man’s mouth. Grace sighed; well, she shouldn’t expect anything precious from a dog’s mouth. Let’s hear what he had to say.
“Get up, I need to talk to you.”
Ethan, still half-asleep, opened his eyes. He saw the alcohol in the ice bucket nearby and instinctively reached for it. Grace slapped his hand away, not gently.
He mumbled, retracting his hand, not angry, just a bit annoyed, “Wasn’t it you who brought it over?”
Grace looked down at him condescendingly, “Go eat something; I’m taking you somewhere.”
“…” Ethan suddenly widened his eyes. He thought he was drunk, hearing things-was this the Grace he knew?
Today’s Grace seemed vastly different from before. The previous Grace would only stare at him with a murderous gaze, ignoring the meaning behind his words, just coldly looking at him, saying nothing.
Every gaze at that time was like a sharp knife, cutting into his flesh, torturing his heart and sanity. Numerous times, he thought, during Grace’s absent-minded moments, when she wasn’t by his side, that if she were his childhood playmate, it would be great. He would use everything to love her, and he wanted her to love him with everything she had.
Unfortunately, every time the result would disappoint him. Grace’s eyes clearly told him that all his fantasies would remain just that-fantasies. She would forever care only about that damned Marvin, about the Blue Moon Pack. It wouldn’t be Ethan, and it wouldn’t be the Frost Moon Pack.
So when the Grand Elder proposed to return Grace’s freedom, he suddenly had a vile idea. He had finally managed to tie Grace to him with sugar-coated bullets and iron chains. Now he wanted to take her away again!
So when the Grand Elder was removing the collar from Grace, he attacked him. However, after seeing Grace’s devastated face, he regretted it. He knew he had done something that would make him lose any hope of Grace expecting anything from him.
He had harmed the person closest to Grace. He could no longer ask for her forgiveness or her favor. So his final wish was only one-he didn’t expect his father to genuinely love him; he just wanted to see his mother. As long as he could see his mother, he could kneel in front of Aldrich and repent for his past misdeeds. Right now, he only needed his mother.
But he was disappointed. His father shattered his hopes once again.
He knew that his remaining days held no more expectations. He released the iron chain around Grace, allowing her to come and go as she pleased. He promised her true freedom. He no longer needed anyone’s care. He simply took bottle after bottle of alcohol from the cellar, opened them, gulped them down, closed his eyes, and slept.
Unexpectedly, Grace didn’t leave. However, he didn’t think it was an act of kindness on her part, showing sympathy for this lowly, drowning dog. Perhaps she stayed here only to wait for the perfect moment for revenge.
Every day, he drank himself into a stupor, but he couldn’t get drunk. The more he drank, the clearer his senses became. The chirping of birds outside the window, the sound of the night wind, the footsteps of pedestrians-even Grace’s breathing, he could distinguish them all. His misery didn’t get the slightest relief. He truly wished he could die right now. See if his damned father would shed a few fake tears for his death, see if Grace would really dance on his grave. The premise was whether she would be willing to come to his grave.
He wondered if his mother would feel sad because of him.
In this state, he slept through Grace’s trip to get more alcohol. Then he was shaken awake, seeing the current Grace-she wasn’t exactly friendly, but at least she seemed calm and composed.
“I think I’m drunk.”
Grace pulled out that familiar sarcastic smile. This was the Grace Ethan was familiar with.
“Turns out I’m not drunk,” he said.
“What makes you think that?” Grace countered.
“You never care about me, let alone talk to me calmly. You’d rather I died immediately.”
That wasn’t entirely wrong. Grace thought to herself, although I really wish you would die soon, every time I make a wish, the gods never actually take your life away.
“So, do you want to go to that place with me or not?” Grace’s patience was gradually running out. Her patience for the person in front of her was even less than for the weeds in the garden. She didn’t want Ethan to really die, but treating him with a normal heart was a different matter.
Ethan sat up straight, “Since it’s my little wolf’s request, of course, I’ll do it.”
Grace rolled her eyes at the ceiling.
With some food in his stomach, Ethan felt like he wasn’t as uncomfortable. The chaotic noises weren’t drilling into his ears irregularly anymore; he could selectively hear the sounds he wanted.
He lazily stretched, “Much better.”
Grace hadn’t eaten anything; she wasn’t as irregular in her routines as the man in front of her. She had eaten earlier in the morning, so she just absentmindedly stared at the fruits on the table.
“Where are you taking me?” he asked again, and this time, Grace finally didn’t zone out.
“Freshen up and come with me.”
He never expected that Grace would take him to the Moonlit Forest.
