Urania looked at him with disdain. “Back when you sat under the tree at my door every day, you weren’t this honest.”
Aldrich slightly curled his lips. “I was young back then. Being a bit mischievous was only natural.”
This guy always liked to shift responsibility onto others.
Rolling her eyes at him, Urania said, “I’m leaving.”
Back in his room, Aldrich called Marvin, who was still in the human society.
Recently, Marvin hadn’t been focusing much on part-time jobs; he was busy investigating whether Ethan’s influence had infiltrated human society and if there were any hidden traces to track them.
As for Alisa, she had been occupied with something else. After returning, she quickly found a new pharmaceutical company to work as a sales representative. Due to her capabilities, the boss soon transferred her from the marketing department to the research and development department. They were currently coordinating a new project related to genetic engineering. She wondered if there was a possibility for the Barrett Group to get involved in werewolf genetic engineering research.
However, this matter was still under discussion, and the project they were coordinating hadn’t fully materialized yet. Blue Moon Pack still seemed quite busy, so she decided to wait a bit longer.
Moreover, she hadn’t seen Maggie in a long time, nor had she heard Maggie’s voice. She missed her. They had never been apart for so long, and it was somewhat bittersweet to think that Maggie might no longer need her as a safe haven.
When could she see Maggie again? She really missed her. Alisa propped her chin up, absentmindedly playing with the rose petals that still had morning dew on them. The wind outside was gentle, brushing against her face like the soft skin of a baby.
Marvin opened the door and saw the wind lifting Alisa’s long hair. Her profile melted in the sunlight, even the swaying curtains seemed to freeze for a moment. She was like a still life painting, and even the frame couldn’t touch an iota of her beauty.
The next moment, Marvin snapped back to reality.
Why was he daydreaming about this woman?
“You seem to be quite idle lately,” he remarked.
Alisa didn’t bother to turn her head, still absentmindedly playing with the rose petals. “I’m waiting for the specific details of the project to be finalized. The interns are handling things. I can afford to be a bit leisurely.”
“Now you’re starting to resemble a bloodsucking capitalist exploiting the lower class.”
Alisa turned around, glaring at him. “You’ve been studying human history lately?”
Marvin shrugged. “I’ve got nothing going on lately.” He pulled out a chair, sat down, and poured himself some water. “I turned New York City upside down and found no trace of Ethan. I don’t know if he truly hasn’t extended his influence into human society or if his influence isn’t in New York City.”
“Isn’t that a good thing? Barrett Group has one less competitor.”
Just as Marvin was about to respond, his phone rang. “Aldrich? What’s going on?”
Aldrich briefly explained Maggie’s recent situation, trying to explain in layman’s terms that Maggie was the daughter of the previous Moon Goddess. Not only did she inherit the bloodline of the Moon Goddess, but she also discovered her own unique power.
When Marvin heard this news, his entire being froze. The outcome was too shocking, causing a few seconds of mental shutdown.
But in this way, everything seemed to make sense mysteriously. Maggie possessed an inexplicable power that led to surprising actions and unexpected outcomes. When he first met her, he felt a sense of dissatisfaction for Grace, and Maggie seemed unpleasant in every way. Watching her with her slender eyebrows filled with caution, unlike Grace’s health and gentleness, he thought, “Aldrich is done for, choosing someone like her as a partner. Not only Aldrich, but Blue Moon Pack is also done for.”
However, it started with her father’s active approval, followed by the occurrence of miraculous events. Maggie used her power to save Charlie, and everything unfolded in a direction he couldn’t have imagined.
A person so frail that even a werewolf’s claws might pose a threat, yet she went to save another person while pregnant in an extremely dangerous situation.
It was that moment that his perception of this person suddenly changed. From a fragile human, she transformed into a noble woman with a clear face, ambition, and courage. Many nobles would have been terrified in such extreme circumstances, but only Maggie rushed forward without any hesitation.
Since then, Charlie’s attitude toward Maggie changed. She was no longer a task assigned by an alpha to be completed seriously; she became someone he was willing to risk his life to protect.
Alisa also heard about her sister’s overnight transformation from an unclaimed orphan to the descendant of a deity. She was surprised but not unbelieving.
For Alisa, no matter whose child, wife, or mother Maggie became in the future, she would always be her sister.
She didn’t care about Maggie’s lineage, but if knowing her lineage brought happiness to Maggie and provided her with a foundation in the werewolf world, she was happy for her sister. At least, Maggie wouldn’t continue to endure disdainful looks and wouldn’t be bullied anymore.
“Now, isn’t it convenient for you to run for Wolf King? You’re the most competitive candidate. Your partner is carrying your twins, and she’s also the descendant of the Moon Goddess. It’s like adding wings to a tiger. Soon, you’ll be the Wolf King of the Northern Continent.”
Aldrich didn’t view this matter as positively as Marvin did.
“I haven’t planned to let her reveal her identity so soon. She needs more protection now, at least until the children are safely born. We are still investigating some reactionary factions, and the rogue wolves who used to roam along the borders have finally calmed down recently. I don’t know if they are preparing for a bigger conspiracy or simply leaving that area.”
“Was that area previously where Ethan wanted to invade our Blue Moon Pack?”
“Yes.”
“I think they might have left because Ethan hasn’t been showing up much lately, and without someone directing them, they decided to leave.”
“If that’s the case, it’s the best scenario.”
“There’s another matter, concerning Grace.”
Alisa saw Marvin’s ears perk up. “Is she… okay?”
“In Maggie’s vision, Grace is still alive, probably in Ethan’s castle, but he has imprisoned her. Without a threat to her life, Maggie attempted to communicate with her through consciousness, but there haven’t been any results yet. It might be too far, or Maggie hasn’t fully mastered the technique. We might try again after Maggie returns from the Elder’s Council.”
Marvin was unexpectedly quiet. For a few seconds, he didn’t even want to hear news about Grace, fearing that it would cause him to immediately break down. However, upon hearing it, his reaction surprised even himself. He seemed to have reached a state where he could accept everything related to Grace calmly.
“If you wish, we can send out a small military force now to investigate her whereabouts. Alternatively, do you think it’s time for us to declare war on the Frost Moon Pack?”
