Chapter 209: Declaring a New Identity

After returning to the room, Maggie recounted every detail of what had happened during this period to Aldrich. From the moment she first met Mrs. Jenkins, who revealed she was the daughter of the Moon Goddess, to the successive use of her mother’s powers to cultivate with the Energy Orb, and the vague prophecy about the severe injury to the Grand Elder, as well as her encounter with her mother, the Moon Goddess, in a dream while unconscious. She narrated everything in complete detail.
Aldrich moved from initial disbelief to gradually becoming more serious as he listened.
“You’re Selene’s daughter?” This wasn’t just disbelief; it felt like falling into a dream trap carefully set by a fairy tale. Each step felt like walking on clouds, dizzying and soft. “Are you really the daughter of the Moon Goddess?”
He had too many questions. How could the daughter of the Moon Goddess live in human society for so long? Was the fusion of his own and the silver wolf’s powers a masterpiece designed by the Moon Goddess for her daughter? Why did the Moon Goddess suddenly fall, and was everything related to Grace and Marvin part of the Moon Goddess’s plan? Was forcibly separating Marvin and Grace, and making Grace leave him, all within the Moon Goddess’s plan? These questions, tangled like a ball of yarn, were about to burst Aldrich’s head.
Maggie soothingly held his hand. “Take it easy; let’s go step by step. Firstly, I am indeed Selene’s daughter, without a doubt.” As she spoke, her fingertips emitted a golden-orange glow, her unique color. Unlike the Moon Goddess’s milky white, she conveyed that power bit by bit into Aldrich’s body through his brow.
That thread-like radiance carried her longing for her partner over these days. She thought that if it were Aldrich, he would understand the unspoken words.
Aldrich indeed gradually quieted down, no longer restless as before. Instead, he closed his eyes, feeling the cool and slightly warm breath of his loved one enveloping him. His body, faster than his brain, understood Maggie’s unspoken thoughts conveyed through this glow. The silver wolf within his body howled Maggie’s name.
He opened his eyes. “I saw you in that power. I saw your unease hidden from me, your remorse and fear when you couldn’t save the Grand Elder, and I saw everything about you.”
Power was like a river, containing the ultimate answers to everything.
In that river flowed countless pasts. He saw his own sadness and helplessness, Grace’s lonely departure, and Marvin’s bewildered state. He saw himself out of control in that river, wandering helplessly in the dark night without finding an exit. The past pains that once seemed insurmountable now only left behind faint scars in memory. Touching them no longer caused intense pain; they were merely imprints, proof that those sufferings had genuinely existed.
“Yes, that’s everything about me.” Maggie tightly grasped his hand. “I showed you all of that to tell you that I’m willing to give you everything. My trust, my love, my life-everything I can give you, I want to offer.”
Aldrich looked at her affectionately. “Same here, Maggie. I finally understand why the Moon Goddess had me and the silver wolf’s power recombine. It was all for welcoming your arrival.”
Maggie smiled, tears shimmering in her eyes. “You’re not angry with my mother, are you?”
“The Moon Goddess has her reasons. I never doubt the Moon Goddess, whether in the past, present, or future.”
The two lingered in quiet intimacy for a while. Aldrich asked Maggie, “What did Urania teach you?”
Maggie thought for a moment. “Initially, she had me study the history of werewolves and some political structures. Then, she taught me how to predict and interpret prophecies. However, she didn’t teach me much in this area, probably wanting me to discover my own powers. That’s why she had me participate in the first prophecy. What she has taught me so far is limited and not very substantive.”
She looked at the light flowing in her palm. “But I think there’s plenty of time ahead. I can learn slowly.”
Aldrich lightly kissed her forehead. “I support whatever you want to do. But isn’t she trying to turn you into another Grace?”
He couldn’t understand why she was taught history and politics first, leaving him bewildered.
Trying to tease him, Maggie deliberately said, “What’s wrong with being like Grace? She’s so excellent and successful. I also want to be the second Grace.”
Aldrich had a serious expression. “Grace is Grace, and you are you. You don’t need to be anyone else. I think Maggie, just being herself, is perfect.”
He always said these heart-touching words with utmost seriousness.
Maggie kissed his lips. “I won’t be someone else. I am who I am. Whether I can achieve what Grace has accomplished or not, I’m still just me.”
“After gaining power, what’s the first thing you want to do?”
Maggie pondered for a moment. “I want to go to the Grand Elder first, awaken him, so the Elder Council won’t remain without a leader, and we can find out who really hurt him that day.”
“Will you still use the Energy Orb this time?”
“No, I have my own power. I can completely awaken him with my own strength.”
This was precisely what Aldrich was currently worried about. Not needing the Energy Orb meant relying solely on Maggie’s own power. However, how many people currently acknowledged Maggie’s identity? She saved the Grand Elder’s life, but a significant portion of the pack still refused to recognize it as Maggie’s own power, attributing it to the werewolf lineage inside her.
“Do you plan to reveal your identity?” Aldrich hesitated. “Do you even know who your father is? Is he a werewolf or a human?”
Maggie was taken aback. Father-she hadn’t heard anything about her father from her mother or Urania.
“I don’t know. It seems like I only know that my father is a werewolf. But who exactly he is, no one is willing to tell me. Even if I ask, I’ll either be evaded or told it’s not the right time to know. So, I also have no idea who my father is.”
Aldrich felt the situation becoming tricky. In werewolf society, Maggie not having a wolf was challenging to accept. Even if she claimed to be the Moon Goddess’s daughter, it was clear that she was the daughter of both a werewolf and the Moon Goddess-how could she not have a wolf? People wouldn’t accept this explanation.
Although much of this resistance was rooted in people’s own insecurities, unwilling to admit that someone originally of humble status suddenly leaped to become the most prestigious figure in the entire race. People loved creating gods but also reveled in seeing deities toppled from their pedestals, reduced to commoners, experiencing hardship like everyone else.
But Maggie had her own decisions. If she decided, he couldn’t interfere.
“Have you made up your mind?” he asked.
Maggie nodded resolutely.
