Chapter 217 How Disillusioned Can One Be?

“So, how’d I do?” Wendy said amusedly.
“You did good, though you might need to do better next time. So long as it isn’t anyone else, I don’t mind if it’s you who’s doing whatever to me,” Henson teased.
She didn’t know how to respond to that, so she merely rolled her eyes at him and smiled.
When their car pulled up to the villa, her phone started ringing as soon as she got off the car.
When she saw Julia’s name on the caller ID, this caused her to stop in her tracks.
When he got off the car at the other side, he asked, “You’re not picking it up?”
“I will, you can head inside first,” she said while pursing her lips at him.
“Nothing you can’t take care of yourself, I hope?” he asked, concerned.
“Yeah,” she giggled at him. She couldn’t possibly have him solve all her problems, could she?
The moment he stepped into the house, she made her way to a white garden chair on a lawn nearby. After she got comfortable, she picked up the call.
“Well, aren’t you busy lately, Wendy,” Julia’s salty voice sounded from the other end.
“Stop being so cryptic. Whatever you want to say to me, say it right now,” Wendy snapped.
“I don’t care about who you fool around with, but you’d better stay away from my Henson. He’s mine,” Julia hissed.
Wendy let out a scoff at that. Julia must’ve planted a few spies on campus, which was how she managed to catch wind of the incident that day so fast. She was probably calling to stir the pot.
“Oh, really? Then why didn’t I hear him say anything of the sort?” Wendy argued.
“Oh, Wendy. I really can’t tell if you don’t have a grasp of the situation or that you’re feigning ignorance right now. If he actually planned on marrying you, he would’ve made the news public ages ago. Men, especially rich men like him have loads of tricks up their sleeves to toy with women. I don’t suppose you’ve already fell for his wiles and now think that he’s really in love with you? , have a lot of tricks to play with women. Just look at yourself. Tell me, what else does he see in you except for your looks?
“Really makes one wonder if you’re that disillusioned,” she said and let out a snarky laugh.
This failed to get a rise out of Wendy. Julia was the one who was lacking braincells, not her, so there was no reason for her to get angry over someone of her level.
“Whether he loves me or is toying with me or not, what does that have to do with you? Did he say that he wanted to marry you? Did he make your engagement public? Did he promise to marry you after making a visit to the Nicholson family home? At least I still have my looks, but you? You have nothing.
“Listen up, Julia Nicholson. The fact that he doesn’t even want to marry you- Even if he said he wanted to marry you, I wouldn’t go so far as to ruin it for you. I’m fine with not marrying him, but I know you’re nothing without him. Just try imagining that, I dare you,” Wendy taunted.
Julia became extremely aggravated at that. “You’re a shameless b*tch, you know that Wendy,” she sneered.
Wendy had heard the phrase so many times by now, especially from actual b*tches, that it failed to get a rise out of her at this point.
It was always the people who have the least class who’ll try their hardest to justify to others how much class they have, after all.
Thus, there was no reason for her to get angry over a b*tch like her.
She merely giggled amusedly at that, “I can’t possibly not live up to your expectations after all that, can I? Especially after witnessing your stellar skills at landing a man,”
Her tone became serious after that. “Stop scampering around like a sewage rat, Julia. To think that you’d actually spread rumours about your engagement to Henson behind my back. Don’t think for a second that he’ll suddenly make you his just because you spread a few rumours around. I’ll have you know that some dreams are better left as they are.
“If you had the guts, you’d openly announce it to the world, but since you didn’t, don’t come looking for trouble with me now. As useless as you say I am, at least Henson still sees me as his treasure. What about you though? I bet he wouldn’t even step on you even if you were a field of grass,” she scoffed.
Julia went ballistic from that. “How dare you, Wendy! Who do you think you are to lecture me?!” she screamed.
“Who do you think YOU are that I can’t do that to you? You’re only angry because everything I said to you was the truth. You’re clearly taking all your anger out on me because you’re painfully aware that you can never have Henson for yourself.
“Stop dreaming already, Julia. Even if I knew that Henson had my back, what makes you think that you can still lecture me at this age? Do you honestly think that I’m still the same kid whom you could pin the blame on for breaking a vase almost a decade ago?
“You’d better not call me for such a thing ever again, Julia. If you don’t understand a word I’m saying, perhaps it’s time to go back to your mommy for classes. Oh right, your mom probably doesn’t understand anything either, which was why she had you in the first place. Anyways, I didn’t know what kind of expectations I had for this in the first place. I can’t believe I just wasted my time and effort talking to the likes of you,” she snorted.
then hung up before walking back to the house.
The moment Julia received a busy tone on the other end, she got so pissed she threw her phone into the ground.
The phone didn’t shatter into pieces, but the servant standing next to her was scared sh*tless at her outburst.
With her anger at its peak, she then shoved a fruit bowl, a platter of dried fruit, a remote control and all the China on the table onto the floor in a fit of rage.
May came running out of the house upon hearing noises outside.
Seeing as Julia was in a frenzy, May piped up nervously, “Oh, what happened this time, dear daughter?”
“Mom, I swear I’m going to kill Wendy one day. I’m so going to make that b*tch drop dead! Mom-” while in the middle of her rage-induced rant, she broke down in tears after stomping her feet a few times.
May then walked over to her side to coax her. “What’s wrong? What did she do this time?” she cooed.
“I can’t believe Master Henson openly confirmed their relationship by acting buddy buddy with her on campus today. I just wanted to give her a piece of my mind for that, but didn’t think that she’d humiliate me instead. She even called me a rat for spreading rumours about my engagement to Henson. She said that I didn’t have a spine because I didn’t dare tell the world about this. I’m so pissed off right now.
“Mom, dad clearly said that it was fine. Even when General Burke talked things over with Master Henson, Master Henson didn’t object to the thought too, so that means he’s not totally throwing the thought of marriage out the window, right? But it’s been so long since then. Do you suppose he’s waiting for me to make the first move?
“I don’t suppose he already forgot the things he promised General Burke? If that weren’t the case, then why’s he still fooling around with Wendy? I really hate that b*tch. She’s driving me insane,” she ranted.
“Alright, alright, settle down now. Is the likes of her even worth getting angry over? Also, need I remind you that even if he didn’t take the initiative to start a relationship with you yet, that he also hasn’t made anything public with Wendy yet?
“He’s just toying with her, I bet. You know how men are. I doubt if such a prideful man like Henson would even agree to a marriage with an illegitimate child of the likes of her who can’t even show her face to the public. You need to remember that you’re a jewel in the Nicholson family, and that Wendy will never ever come close to you in her lifetime,” May reassured.
Julia felt better after hearing her mother say that to her, but she still looked at her while sulking. “What can we do then? Should I just sit here and wait again? What if he falls in love with that vixen in the meantime? I’ll have you know Wendy’s a child of Elizabeth Evans, the mother of all vixens. You know how sneaky they can be. Who’s to say Wendy won’t steal my man the same way her mother stole yours?” Julia whined.
May raised an eyebrow. “You do have a point. Your father and brother both advised us not to make anymore rash decisions… and yet, we can’t just sit here and wait either. We need to do something,” May schemed.
