Wendy gave an embarrassed giggle as she inched closer to Henson to hug one of his arms. “Oh, yes. you’re such a good teacher. I can’t help but listen to every word you say,” she cooed.
“Don’t you dare, Wendy. These tactics are useless on me,” he huffed. He said that, but didn’t push her away either.
Upon noticing this, she felt amused and looked at him with a sincere expression on her face. “I finally understand that I was wrong, Henson, so I promise you that I’ll never ever do such a thing again. I’ll always remember what you said – ‘prioritise your life’. Can’t you stop being angry at me?” she cooed.
He looked down to glare at the woman who was wriggling her head about on his shoulders.
His anger had subsided completely, but now it had been replaced with lust.
“Who said she couldn’t play cute. It’s not that she doesn’t know how to, but that she refuses to do so,” he grumbled in his mind.
“Just look at her go now,”
He snorted and stopped scolding her.
If not for the fact that he wanted to make her remember that he’d get mad at her for putting herself in situations that might harm herself, he would’ve torn her to shreds by now.
When the car stopped in front of the villa,
she let go of him, and he immediately got out of the car and started walking away first without looking back.
She stared at his back in frustration. Why was he so hard to coax?
After taking her time getting off the car, she noticed that Howell had come up right beside her.
With both hands in his pockets, he turned around to face her with his body leaning against the wall. “Someone got a scolding huh, Wendy?” he snickered.
“How’d you know?” she gasped.
“I’ve been brothers with the man for almost twenty years now, so obviously I know how big of a temper he has. He’s definitely pissed at you. Congrats though since you managed to piss him off,” he joked.
She rolled her eyes at him and said, “Is that even something worth celebrating about?”
“I just feel that the scolding was well-deserved since you managed to get involved in such a big issue on campus,” he replied.
She hissed and lifted a hand to bonk him on the head. “I dare you to say that again,” she threatened.
“I’m technically one of the guys who saved you, so you can’t possibly start burning bridges now, right?” he snickered.
“You saving me is one thing I’ll never forget for the rest of my life, but you also didn’t have to rub it in my face like that. Anyways, help me come up with a few ways to calm your brother down. He’s so hard to coax,” she lamented.
“Sure. This is the first time I’ve seen him like that though. Don’t you feel that the reason why he’s so pissed off right now is because he cares about you a bit too much? If he hadn’t hoisted you up with his own strength just now, I doubt if I could’ve done it based on my strength alone.
But you know, when he tried to pull you up, he had to bend over quite a distance just to get to you. If he weren’t careful at the time, or if Tracy had continued to thrash around, he’d prolly be the one who’d fall to his death before any of us did, you know. He literally risked his life to save you, so I feel he has the right to be angry at you,” he reasoned.
With that, he shrugged and went inside the building.
She stood there, motionless. Upon recalling to the incident just now, she remembered fearing for her life so much so that she didn’t stop to think of how dangerous it probably was for Henson to bend over to grab hold of her waist like that while she was dangling in mid-air.
Her heart skipped a beat when she turned around to face the front doors of the villa.
Henson… had actually risked his own life to save her life.
She promised herself that she would never forget what he did for her.
With pursed lips, she marched straight through the front doors.
In the meantime, Howell was in the middle of ranting to Henson, who was sitting in the living room.
“When did you become like this, bro? How could you sell out your own brother just to protect the person you love? You even snapped at me in front of everyone. Are you actually my brother?” Howell huffed.
Wendy rubbed the space between her brows. So the reason he scolded Howell at the time was to protect her identity from getting exposed.
“Nope,” Henson replied flatly.
Howell felt like exploding from anger at that moment.
He later nodded in defeat as he couldn’t think up of anything to say to that. “Fine, fine. I was raised by wolves. Fine, I’ll be returning to my pack now then. Also, I’ll be waiting for my remuneration for saving your wife. Anything would do, I couldn’t possibly request anything more from you,” he said sarcastically
and started walking in her direction. “I fear you’ll need to sacrifice your body in order to quell his anger at this point, Sister Wendy. All the best,” he whispered into her ear.
This caused her to grit her teeth and shoot him a glare. Just as she was about to hit him, he’d already ran away with an evil grin plastered on his smug face.
She then made her way towards the sofa and stood still at the side for a while, not making a peep.
Donald the Butler, who was standing at the side, suddenly felt puzzled as to why Master Henson had already arrived home at this hour. He was under the assumption that he was supposed to be on campus, giving a lecture right now.
He’d even brought Miss Evans and Howell back with him,
not to mention that he looked like he was on the verge of going ballistic…
Miss Evans, on the other hand, was acting like an obedient kitten around him.
What on earth had happened today?
After loitering around for a bit, she turned to face the butler. “Is dinner ready yet, Donald?” she asked.
“I can have them prepare it now if you’re hungry, Miss Evans,” he replied.
“No need to,” she said and waved her arms about. “Just nice then. I plan to make use of the kitchen to prepare a romantic candlelight dinner for the both of us tonight,”
“Okay, Miss Evans,” he obliged.
She then tossed her handbag to a side and made a dash into the kitchen without changing her clothes first.
Upon hearing the doors to the kitchen close, Henson finally turned around to look at her shadow with a smirk on his face.
This woman…
Donald then walked over to Henson and asked, bewildered, “How come Miss Evans is acting so strange today, Master Henson?”
“Her? She obviously feels guilty about what happened today, so now she’s acting all well-behaved just to appease me. Anyways, have everyone leave please. If I don’t call for them, don’t let them come over,” Henson instructed.
“Understood, sir,” Donald the butler said and later ushered all the other servants out of the room.
Henson then casually turned on the TV and switched to the business channel.
He’d sneak glances at the kitchen from time to time, wondering what on earth his woman was doing in there.
Half an hour later, she emerged from the kitchen
to put a few dishes on the dining table. “Time to eat, Hensie,” she hollered at him who was sitting not too far away.
He remained where he was and didn’t even look at her,
but he was secretly thrilled that she’d called him ‘Hensie’ instead of the usual ‘Henson’. He really enjoyed being called that, so he feigned being angry for a bit longer just for that reason.
She pouted as she stood in her spot. She then made faces at his back.
He was definitely the pettiest man in all of history.
She later walked over to his side and gave him a giggle while clasping his hands in hers. “I know you’re still pissed at me, Hensie, but it isn’t good to stay angry on an empty stomach, you know,” she coaxed.
He merely glanced at her through the corners of his eyes and snorted at that. He then got up from the sofa and followed her to the dining table,
but upon laying his eyes on the dishes on the table…
they were all veggie dishes.
There was a plate of stir-fried lettuce, a lotus root dish, a plate of celery and meat stir-fry, and a bowl of bitter melon soup.
He frowned. “Is this rabbit food?” he scoffed.
“Of course not, rabbits can’t eat these,” she snickered
and took a seat opposite him. “I read that lettuce, lotus, celery, and bitter melon can help quell one’s anger. Look, you saved my life and yet I’ve made you angry because of it, so this is my way of saying thanks to you. How could I let my hero get so worked up till the point where it harms his own body? Which is why, in order to express my sincere gratitude towards, I specially made so many dishes that can help quell your anger, and this is also to make up for my misgivings,”
she said and flashed him a big, toothy grin. She didn’t forget to blink a few times too for extra effect.
To her, this was her way of being adorable.
