“How’s it going, Maggie?” The silver wolf seized any opportunity to show off to Maggie. “I’m better than Aldrich, right?”
Maggie lay on the back of the silver wolf, giggling. “Why do you always compare yourself to Aldrich? You two are one, and when you’re hurt, he won’t be better off. If he’s in trouble, you can’t escape it either. Can’t you two just get along? Aldrich doesn’t like to compare like you do.”
The silver wolf ran even faster, apparently trying to vent his frustration.
He didn’t like how protective Maggie was of Aldrich. Maggie seemed neutral, but every word she spoke was in defense of Aldrich, proving that in her heart, Aldrich was the best and no one could compare.
“I hate him.”
“I know.” Maggie gently wrapped her arms around the silver wolf’s neck. “But you both need to slowly accept that you’re together. Even if you have different thoughts and can’t understand each other, you’ll get used to each other over time. Just as I initially hated Aldrich, who wanted to cut the connection between me and my child. I was afraid of the wild silver wolf too. None of us could get along at first.”
Maggie’s gentle murmur was like a spell that gradually calmed the silver wolf.
“It’s okay, Silver Wolf. Don’t rush to prove that you hate him or can’t get along with him. I’ll be with you, a lubricant for your arguments, and we’ll all move toward the future together.”
“Will there be such a day?” The silver wolf muttered, “Can Aldrich and I really adapt to each other?”
“Who knows,” Maggie replied, nuzzling the silver wolf’s soft fur. “But I’ll be here as long as you and Aldrich need me.”
The forest, caressed by the warm night breeze, quickly ushered Maggie into slumber. By the time the silver wolf wanted to have another conversation with her, Maggie was already asleep.
“She’s such a delicate girl.”
Although Maggie was a patient and wise listener, she couldn’t exactly be called a storyteller. He had once poured out his painful childhood memories to her when they entered the Moonlit Forest, talking about his gentle but short-lived mother, his cruel and weak father, and his inability to connect with his family. Maggie had absorbed it all slowly and gently.
She had accepted everything about him, but at the same time, she kept her own past sealed tight.
Every time he tried to uncover her secrets, she diverted his attention with something else.
“Did she tell you about it?” Aldrich was puzzled. Why was the secret Maggie wouldn’t share with him being revealed to Thomas? Was it because he was not trustworthy?
“She didn’t directly tell me about her past, but most of those past events are related to Miss Alisa. That’s why I came to you to discuss it again. It’s probably to prevent the misunderstanding between the werewolves and Alisa, as she inadvertently revealed her past. This is just my personal speculation, and as to whether it’s true or if there are any other errors in the speculation, we don’t know.”
She and Alisa were once adopted by a family with warm smiles and dazzling golden hair that shone like the sun. The woman wore a short skirt and a pearl necklace, while the man wore a sharp suit with a perfectly knotted tie. They looked like elite members of society who wanted to raise children but could only adopt them from an orphanage due to external reasons.
The naive and innocent children thought this was the beginning of happiness. Little did they know it was the start of a nightmare.
They had another son, blond, with blue eyes, filled with the arrogance and frivolity of the wealthy. At first glance, the two sisters knew their days would not be easy. Teenage boys always exuded strong hormones, and he often ordered the two sisters to wash his intimate clothing, forced them to tidy his messy room, and even engaged in inappropriate behavior.
For example, putting his hand under Alisa’s clothes, using his fingers to touch the exposed skin on her back. The two sisters tried to get the attention of their foster parents but received the most shameless response in the world: this was just the brother showing affection for his sister.
So they ran away. After that boy almost violated Maggie while intoxicated, Alisa injured him, and the two sisters escaped with great difficulty. They lived a nomadic and impoverished life for several years. It wasn’t until Alisa got into college and had the opportunity to become a doctor that their miserable circumstances came to an end.
Aldrich looked at Thomas in silence. “What are you trying to convey with all this?”
“I just think that Luna’s feelings for Alisa might be deeper than you imagine. Ending Alisa’s life hastily won’t strengthen the bond between you and Luna. You might need to talk to Alisa in the future.”
The silver wolf roared in his heart: I don’t want to talk to that neurotic woman!
Aldrich, for once, agreed with the silver wolf. He genuinely didn’t believe Alisa was someone he could converse with reasonably. Otherwise, why would she first destroy the wedding dress he had carefully prepared for Maggie and then deliberately provoke Marvin during the crucial interview, causing Maggie to still hold a grudge against Marvin?
Seeing that Aldrich remained unmoved, Thomas did his best to guide him. “I know you’re reluctant, but if you look at it from a different perspective, Alisa had formed a bond with Luna a long time ago. She wouldn’t want to hurt Luna. That’s certain.”
Aldrich’s expression remained dark, but there was a slight softening, as if he were considering the feasibility of this idea.
“At least in some way, you and Alisa are on the same side. Both of you care about Luna. You can talk to Alisa about this, tell her that in your heart, Luna and her two children are the most important. You will prioritize Luna above all and work towards reform among the werewolves, no longer allowing them to hold strong hostility towards humans.”
This statement finally had some effect. Aldrich sighed, “I will try to convey that Maggie is the most important thing to me. If she can accept this message, that would be great. If she can’t…”
“If she can’t, please control your emotions and prioritize Luna and the children above all.”
Aldrich let out a deep breath, sounding frustrated. “I hope everything goes smoothly. I also wish for things to develop as Maggie desires.”
In this way, everything would be much easier. Maggie and her loved ones would be together, and he wouldn’t have to be constantly distracted, guarding against Alisa in the midst of potential dangers from other wolves.
He wanted a smooth campaign to become the next king, so he could give Maggie the best and most wonderful things in the world.
