Maggie had been very understanding and supportive when she learned that Aldrich had to deal with an emergency at Barrett Manor. However, at lunchtime, while taking care of Alisa, she often found herself lost in thought, speculating about the nature of the urgent matter.
Alisa declined Maggie’s offer to feed her once again, saying, “Maggie, your concerns don’t belong to me.”
Maggie came back to reality and said, “I’m just worried about Aldrich.”
“Do you love him very much?”
“Yes…”
“He’s only the father of your children; you don’t need to emotionally rely on him.”
“I understand, but if emotions were easy to control, where would all the epic legends be?”
“But, you’re human, and he’s a werewolf. Do you understand?”
“I don’t care.”
“Can you accept his wolf form?”
That was indeed Maggie’s nightmare.
During the Spring Hunt, she entered the Moonlit Forest, and the Silver Wolf took control of her body. Its violence and brutality were so intense that Maggie still felt repulsed when she recalled it.
Feeling disoriented, she stood up. “Alisa, I need to take a nap.”
“Of course, but Maggie, please confront your feelings.”
Inside the master bedroom, she lit an incense without any chemical substances. In the cozy atmosphere, Maggie gradually drifted into a dream.
She met the Silver Wolf again.
A dense forest with no daylight, thorns, and no way forward.
Maggie convinced herself that this was Aldrich, and she shouldn’t be afraid. She wanted to accept it.
She extended a friendly hand toward the Silver Wolf, and it pounced on her suddenly. The surroundings transformed into a flower-strewn wilderness, and the Silver Wolf playfully frolicked on top of her.
But in no time, the Silver Wolf’s temperament changed dramatically, treating her like how Marvin treated Alisa, tossing her around in its mouth. Maggie begged continuously, trying to awaken the Silver Wolf’s reason. In the chaos, Maggie saw a tall figure not far away.
It was Aldrich!
Maggie kept calling Aldrich’s name, seeking his help. However, Aldrich just gave her a cruel smile, wickedly parting his lips to say…
“Mrs. Jenkins, you should wake up.” Elizabeth stood by the bedside and woke Maggie.
Maggie’s face was not looking well. “You should have given me another minute.”
Even though she knew it was just a dream, Maggie was curious about what Aldrich, who coldly watched the Silver Wolf torment her, would have said.
Elizabeth helped Maggie wash and change. “You can’t afford to wait any longer, Mrs. Jenkins is waiting downstairs.”
“You mean Mrs. Jenkins?” Maggie’s tone was filled with surprise. “I’d like to hurry.”
She quickly freshened up and took the elevator downstairs to meet Mrs. Jenkins, who had come to visit.
At the same time, Maggie couldn’t help but reflect that Aldrich was indeed very attentive. There was an elevator installed in the Barrett Manor residential area. After all, climbing a flight of stairs was a trivial matter for werewolves; they could even leap over three or four steps at once.
In the grand hall on the first floor, elegantly decorated, Mrs. Jenkins sat gracefully sipping her tea.
There was a unique aura about her, making the werewolves exceptionally friendly toward her. Mrs. Jenkins knew it was because she hailed from the Moon Goddess Temple, and the influence of the Moon Goddess was with the werewolves throughout their lives.
“Mrs. Jenkins, I’ve missed you terribly,” Maggie expressed her yearning as she approached.
The other servants retreated automatically. Elizabeth spoke, “Madam, if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to summon us.”
“Thank you. I hope Mrs. Jenkins and I won’t be overheard by other werewolves during our conversation,” Maggie nodded. She preferred to keep her conversation with Mrs. Jenkins private.
Mrs. Jenkins stood up and welcomed Maggie to her seat. “I’ve missed you too, and I hope my impromptu visit won’t disrupt your plans.”
“If an afternoon nap can be considered a plan, please don’t make fun of me.”
“Of course, it’s essential for your well-being and the babies.”
Mrs. Jenkins gently stroked Maggie’s protruding belly but quickly withdrew her hand. She gazed at Maggie’s face and asked, “My dear, have you been troubled by nightmares?”
Maggie was momentarily taken aback, and the recent thrilling dream came back to haunt her. She forced a smile, saying, “Dreams are baseless, and I’m trying to forget and move on.”
“No, Maggie, you are the daughter of the Moon Goddess. Since you started using Energy Beads to gather moonlight energy, your potential has been gradually awakened. I can feel that your energy has increased significantly, which means your dreams are far from ordinary.”
Maggie was a bit flustered. “But this dream was chaotic, and it had no logic.”
“Remember, except for other people entering your dreams, your dreams are often prophetic or carry a warning. They may not unfold exactly as you dream them, but there’s a tendency, and you must learn to interpret them.”
“But what happens in dreams is impossible. I can’t believe…”
The Silver Wolf losing control didn’t surprise Maggie, but the idea of Aldrich wanting to harm her was absurd. Putting aside their conflicting interests, he would never become the killer of wolf pups’ mother!
Mrs. Jenkins held Maggie’s hand. “What you dream may be an outcome, a process, or perhaps part of a deception. It may not come true exactly as it appears, but there’s an inclination. Maggie, regardless of the circumstances, you have the gift of dream insight, and that’s something to be grateful for.”
Maggie was still disoriented, but Mrs. Jenkins encouraged her by patting her back. “Don’t be afraid, dear, there’s nothing insurmountable, and you possess more than ordinary people. However, you must be responsible for this gift.”
“I understand. Thank you for your guidance,” Maggie sincerely expressed her gratitude for having such a wise elder by her side.
“I noticed that your energy has increased, and it seems you’ve experienced some extraordinary adventures.”
“It’s the Energy Bead,” Maggie produced the Energy Bead chain she obtained from Peirene. “Her owner told me that this is…”
“A foot chain,” Mrs. Jenkins finished Maggie’s sentence. “It’s a potent curse that suppresses one’s energy, making them lose their sanity. Lightly affected individuals become mentally disabled, while those more deeply affected can be controlled, turned into thoughtless puppets.”
“But you said it’s a foot chain.”
Mrs. Jenkins carefully examined the chain. “Yes, the person who cursed it still retained some indistinguishable affection. Let’s assume this person had good intentions; they mitigated the curse’s impact. When worn around the victim’s ankle, it slows the process of losing their sanity. However, it also increases the torment on the victim’s brain, causing immense suffering.”
Now Maggie understood why Peirene, who had lost her sanity, continued to search for her wolf pups. It wasn’t just an obsession; it had become a repetitive habit.
It was both fortunate and extremely tragic.
Mrs. Jenkins fiddled with the chain, and with a soft click, the Energy Bead fell off the chain. Maggie widened her eyes in surprise. “I thought you had to break the chain to get the Energy Bead out.”
“Only people from the Moon Goddess Temple can use Energy Beads. Otherwise, an Energy Bead is nothing more than a decorative stone or a worthless rock.”
“What is this?” Maggie discovered something beneath the energy stone.
Mrs. Jenkins quickly pushed Maggie’s hand away. “Don’t touch it; it can be lethal!”
