Wendy coughed violently after hearing that. She wasn’t drinking anything at the moment, but what Henson had said had caused her to choke on air.
After staring at him for a long time, she realised he wasn’t kidding. “Me? Take responsibility for you?” She spluttered.
“Why? Who said that only men should be responsible for women? Can’t you take responsibility for me?” He asked.
She lifted her chin with the thought of not wanting to lose the argument to him and she didn’t want to embarrass herself further. “It takes two to tango. So long as you don’t consent, how can I just force myself upon you?” She retorted.
“That’s true. You wouldn’t be able to do anything to me so long as I refuse, but what makes you think I’ll refuse? It’s not like impotent. I might’ve given myself to you last night, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to pay. What right do you have to talk to me after you’ve came on to me last night?” He huffed.
She was so pissed at this she felt like punching him.
He was the one who took advantage of her, but now he was the one who was acting all innocent and is pinning all the blame on her. What a greedy capitalist!
“You consented, so how is it my fault now?” She countered.
He laughed upon seeing her glare at him so intently with a murderous aura. “If you hadn’t seduced me, then I wouldn’t have consented. And even if I consented, you were still in control of your own body last night, so you can’t toss the blame onto anyone else but yourself.
“See? Usually I would never force you if you didn’t consent, which is how he didn’t cross any boundaries then. But since you wanted to sleep with me last night, and I wanted it too, so it happened. However, just because I didn’t fight back, doesn’t mean you can pin all the things you did on me, alright?” He reasoned.
She lowered her eyes. Why was it that the more he spoke, the more she felt that he was right.
Was he always this good at talking?
Or was he just blessed with the gift of gab?
“And circling to last night, did I force you to drink last? No, right? You were the one who held up the glass of wine to your mouth and poured glass after glass into your stomach, yes? You got drunk from your own doing, yet I was the one who had to bear the brunt of your lust. Even if it seemed like I did it out of my goodwill, you should still take responsibility for it. Don’t you agree?” He asked.
She looked at him with a flushed face and bit her lip, regretting everything.
Why was she so unlucky to be entangled with Henson?!
She’d bumped into him when she got drunk the first time, and he was there for the second time too.
People say that the same thing won’t happen three times, so she thought of escaping from his grasp before the third time struck.
But it also felt like wherever she went, she’d come back to him eventually.
“Initially, I didn’t plan to go so hard on you, but I got furious after seeing you and that damned Ross having a blast together. This is why I’m asking you to take responsibility for me right now,” he huffed.
“Then, what do you propose?” She asked, nervously.
“You have two choices. The first choice being you be my wife, while the second being you be my girlfriend,” he said.
She sighed out of frustration.
“What? This isn’t good enough for you? Then I’ll add on two more. The third being I be your husband, and the fourth, I be your boyfriend,” he said amusedly.
“How are these any different from the last two?” She snapped. He was such a teaser.
“Fine, I’ll be a saint and give you another choice, that being you sleep with me every night from today onwards.”
She glared at him and was at a loss for words.
After all that, these were the only options she had in the end.
“Still not satisfied? Don’t be too greedy, Wendy. I’ve already given in a lot,” he teased.
The way he was acting like some kind of saint now drove her up the walls.
If she continued to let him lead her by the nose, then how would she live from now on?
No, she could never give in. She wasn’t some fool.
She had to retaliate.
“You can keep those five options to yourself, because I won’t be choosing any of them,” she replied.
He raised an eyebrow and asked, “So, you’re not going to admit it?”
“That has nothing to do with this. You said it yourself, I was drunk last night and didn’t remember anything that’d happened. Since you have no witness to back up your statements, why should I believe anything you say? You know what I think? I think you got excited after seeing me drunk like that and let your lust take over, and it’s only after the whole affair that you’re now using this chance to set me up.”
She accused and shook her head stubbornly. “I refuse to believe that I’m the kind of person you say I am, so I refuse to take the blame for this. Thus, I won’t choose any of the options you gave me,” she huffed.
He stared at her for a moment then smiled. “When did you become so crafty?” He chuckled.
She pouted and replied, “How could I’ve not picked up anything from you when we’ve been together for so long? If I didn’t even know this much, then it’d be a waste of time getting involved with you for such a long time,” she said.
Hearing her say that, he laughed heartily. “Very good, Wendy. Seeing as you’ve become smarter, I’ll give you a chance to turn things around. So, tell me, how do you plan to address last night’s matter?” He asked.
After giving it some thought, she said, “There’s nothing to address. Just let it get over your head so that we can move on with our merry lives.”
“No way,” he said and raised an eyebrow at her.
“You were the one who said you didn’t want to dwell on the matter anymore, but now you’re bringing it up again because I met Ro-”
While she was speaking, he shot her a cold glare, which made her quickly correct herself, “… an old acquaintance. But I’m not entangled with him in any way, so why do you feel the need to do this?”
“You told me you liked him when you were kids,” he snapped.
“How I feel for him now has changed from how I felt for him when I was a kid back then. Even I know that much,” she said.
“What are you trying to say?” He pressed.
“I just trying to tell you that I don’t have the kind of relationship with him you have in mind,” she retorted.
He raised an eyebrow and probed, “Who do you think is more important to you then? Me or him?”
“Can you stop pestering me with such useless questions?” She asked.
“Pick one,” he urged.
She felt he could be awfully childish sometimes.
“Of course it’s you,” she muttered. She wasn’t a fool. How could she choose Ross over Henson at this time? She’d definitely receive his death glare if she answered the latter.
“You sure you didn’t hurt your conscience by saying that?” He asked with a smirk.
“Can’t you have a bit of faith in me after we’ve been together for so long? And to think you still have the nerve to say you like me?” She huffed.
“Alright alright, since I can see that you’re being sincere now, I’ll get rid of the first four options. Now, choose again. Your first option is to sleep with me every night, but I promise not to touch you, while your second option is for us to sleep in separate rooms, but you have to do what you did last night with me again,” he suggested.
“You’re beyond shameless,” she snapped with a frown.
“How do you expect a man to warp into a vegetarian after knowing the taste of meat? Hurry up and choose, people are waiting for us to head downstairs for dinner,” he urged.
“I refuse,” she pouted.
“Then I’ll assume you chose the second option,” he said and got up to head downstairs.
“I choose the first option,” she hurriedly answered.
She refused to do it with him once more.
They’d slept on the same bed together so many times now she was already used to it.
She definitely wouldn’t be able to do what she did with him last night while sober.
Just the thought of it was enough to make her face burn up. It was too embarrassing.
He turned around to face here and shot her a glare. “You sure know how to cut your losses,” he snickered.
With that, he opened the door and stepped outside.
However, after leaving the room, a devilish smile crept up on his lips.
It only took him a few sentences to capture her right back to him.
He thought that she’d learnt something after all of that, but it turned out that she was still a silly girl in the end.
