Chapter 153 Stop Moving About, Henson

Book:Mr. Charles's Hidden Wife Published:2024-5-1

Henson smiled after seeing how much Wendy looked like she wanted to kill herself at the moment. After downing it, she put the glass down.
Occasionally, he’d imagine how she’d look like when drunk, she even hugged a tree and talk to it.
“Wendy, go fill his glass up again for me,” President Burke ordered.
She was astonished. He still wanted her to drink?
“We must have at least two rounds together. That should probably be enough to satisfy Master Henson tonight,” President Burke guffawed.
Since Henson didn’t agree to his request just now, the only thing Burke could do now was to hope that he would after a few rounds of drinks.
After a few rounds, her face had turned somewhat reddish.
She patted her face a few times to sober up.
Seeing as she looked a bit tipsy, Henson raised his eyebrows and said to Burke, “I’m satisfied now. Since I can see that you genuinely want to make the university a better place, and that you have a strong will to serve, I promise to personally foot all the construction fees for the student dormitory. And as for research funding, I’ll donate a million dollars in the name of my company to your university every year.”
“Master Henson, on behalf of the university, I thank you so much for your help,” President Burke said with much gratitude.
“You’re welcome,” Henson said through pursed lips.
This time, only the two of them clinked glasses.
After putting down his glass, it looked as if he just thought of something, so President Burke fished out his phone. “My apologies, Master Henson, but I have to step out to make a call now,” he said.
“Do whatever you need to, Burke,” Henson replied.
The moment he left the room, Henson turned to her and stretched out a hand to caress her head. “How are you doing?” He asked softly.
She gave a hiccup, and upon looking at his face, she giggled. “Stop moving about, Henson, you’re making me all dizzy,” she slurred.
“Oh, really? Then how about I do this?”
He smirked and placed both of his hands squarely on her shoulders. “Still dizzy?”
She looked at him and blinked a few times. “Nope. Hic,” she giggled mischievously.
“Well, aren’t you a little drunk?” He teased.
“Me? Drunk? That’s impossible. I’d still be fine after downing a thousand glasses,” she gloated and patted herself on the chest while her frame swayed.
She then stretched out her arms and gripped his shoulders with both hands. “I already told you not to move. I’ll feel dizzy when you do,” she whined.
He was thoroughly amused by this. “Alright alright, I’ll stop moving about. You’d better not drink anymore later, okay? I’ll bring you home after this,” he said.
Upon hearing footsteps in the doorway, he released his grip on her shoulders.
“I wanna go home,” she slurred while slumped over the table.
President Burke swung open the door and flashed him a smile. “So sorry, Master Henson, but I ran into my daughter outside when I was making a call just now. And when she heard that I was dining with you, she pestered me to meet you. My daughter’s one of your juniors, you see. She’d heard about you from a bunch of foreign exchange students after she enrolled in the academy, and has looked up to you ever since,” he explained.
Before he was done speaking, the door swung open again to reveal a trendy-looking young woman who sashayed inside the room.
to reveal a trendy-looking young woman who sashayed inside the room.
When her gaze fell on Henson, she gave him a nonchalant laugh. “Hello, senior! I’m Nancy, and it’s truly an honour to be able to meet you here,” she greeted.
Henson gave her one look and merely nodded in reply with a straight face.
merely nodded in reply with a straight face.
Her gaze later shifted to Wendy, who was slumped over on the table beside Henson, and she walked around her to get to Henson’s free side. “Is it alright if I join in on your party, senior?” She asked.
The moment she finished her question, Wendy suddenly stood up from her seat and gave everyone a drunken chuckle while her body swayed in the wind. “Come join us! Let’s drink till we drop!” She slurred.
Because she stood up too fast, her legs snagged against the chair and this sent her flying backwards.
Henson swiftly got up and caught her in his embrace in the nick of time.
He then propped her up so that she could stand, but she plopped herself in her seat and pointed at him instead. “Thank you- ah, wait, apparently just words won’t suffice for some people,” she ranted in a drunken state.
“You’re one fussy guy, Henson,” she slurred and gave a drunken giggle.
After hearing her say that, President Burke immediately broke out in a cold sweat.
“I’d just struck a deal with the man. Surely he won’t change his mind just because of this woman, right?” He thought nervously.
He then stepped forward and patted her on the shoulder. “Wendy? Wendy?” He called out her name.
Henson frowned as he stared at the president’s hand, which rested on her shoulder. “Can’t you tell that Miss Evans is drunk, Burke?” He growled.
Henson’s chilly gaze was enough to make him force an awkward laugh. “I hope you don’t mind all this, Master Henson. I had no idea she couldn’t handle her liquor. What say I send this young child back first, while Nancy, you can accompany Mr. Charles here for a few more rounds? Later on-”
But before he could finish, Wendy stood up once more upon hearing the words ‘a few more rounds’. “Come! Have a drink!” she exclaimed
She exclaimed and held up her glass while squinting at the three people gathered around her through her blurry vision.
When she saw there was another woman standing behind Henson, she stretched out her neck and squinted at her a few times.
“Henson,” she called out his name and used some force to pull his arm towards her.
He smirked and let himself get closer to her.
“What can I do for you, Miss Evans?” He asked, amused.
“T-there’s a ghost beside you. She keeps peeking at you,” she stammered.
He couldn’t help but smile after hearing that and after glancing over to Nancy.
Behind him, however, was a President Burke who looked like he was suffering from a headache at the moment.
Nancy wasn’t happy at this. “Dad, is this one of the professors in your university? She can’t even tell ghosts from humans, so why’d you bring her here? So that she can humiliate herself?” She scoffed.
A light flashed across Henson’s eyes as he glared at Nancy. “I’m afraid I don’t agree with your sentiment, Miss Billy. Don’t you all think that Miss Evans’ drunk self is adorable?” He cooed.
Nancy was startled at the scene that was unfolding before her and she shot Wendy a look of disdain.
In the meanwhile, Wendy was still staring her back, unsure if she was really a ghost or not.
“Oh, Wendy… She isn’t a ghost, but a person,” President Burke piped up.
Henson had to pull her into a loose embrace as she started swaying too much.
She then turned her head to face President Burke and blurted confusedly, “Wait… y’all can actually see her?”
Henson merely smiled and steeled himself from bursting into laughter on the spot.
“Yes, of course. That’s my daughter Nancy standing over there. She just so happened to pass by and wanted to have a drink with Master Henson and get to know him better,” President Burke said out of frustration.
“Come on! Cheers, cheers! We can’t stop until we finish every drop!” She exclaimed as she thrust the glass she’d been holding in her hands since just now forward.
“Dad, I can accompany Master Henson here, so you’d better quickly send this professor home,” Nancy suggested, clearly displeased.
“Sure, sure,” President Burke obliged and stepped forward with intentions of propping Wendy up.
Just as he was about to stretch out his hands, Henson quickly turned around, causing him to miss her shoulder by a few inches.
Her shoulder wasn’t something just about anyone could touch. He wouldn’t allow it.
After noticing that he failed to grab hold of her, he turned to Henson. “Master Henson, let me-”
“Do you even know where Miss Evans lives?” Henson snapped, his voice cold.
“Well, um… I was planning to take her to a hotel to stay the night,” he said anxiously.
“A hotel?” Henson cried as his gaze turned chilly.
