The Moonlit Forest had been a place where only moonlight could penetrate for thousands of years. The trees in the forest were mostly centuries-old, with massive trunks that blocked out the sun. Even during the daytime, it was challenging for sunlight to filter through.
The light emitted by the Energy Bead had the power to pierce through the perpetual darkness of this place, under Maggie’s control, and it now targeted Ethan.
A powerful surge of energy created ripples in the air, causing the surrounding dry leaves and stones to tremble. The stronger the force, the wider Ethan’s evil grin became. “Such powerful energy, it will all be mine… it will all be mine…”
“Go to hell!” Maggie cursed Ethan with utmost hatred, the Energy Bead’s light becoming even more blinding as it attacked Ethan. In the intense white light, the vision turned blank. The last image left in her mind was Ethan pulling out something to shield himself from the light, followed by the sound of something shattering and Ethan being knocked against a large tree, severely injured.
As the light faded, a silver wolf rushed to protect Maggie. “Maggie, are you okay?”
“Silver wolf, Aldrich?”
Tears welled up in Maggie’s eyes. “Why are you always late?”
“Sorry, I encountered some issues,” Aldrich started to explain, but Ethan interrupted him. Despite his severe injuries, he wanted to take Grace with him, but he was thwarted by Marvin, who had arrived. Nonetheless, he considered this enough and vanished from their sight, gazing evilly at Maggie. “Maggie, you will be my Luna, and I will make sure you become mine!”
Maggie tried to help Grace up but was frightened by a stranger wolf.
Aldrich protected her. “Don’t worry; it’s Marvin.”
Marvin carefully lifted Grace onto his back, not hiding his disdain for Maggie. “Miss Nelson, before you accuse my brother of being late, please control your family!”
“My family?” Maggie looked puzzled.
“Your sister ended up in the Moonlit Forest. If it weren’t for your relationship with her, Aldrich wouldn’t have rushed to protect her, and we wouldn’t have been late, which led to Grace’s injuries.”
Maggie looked at the silver wolf beside her. “Alisa?”
“All of this is due to Aldrich’s foolish actions, and I don’t want to hide anything from you,” the silver wolf said, trying to justify himself.
But how could Alisa be involved? Maggie felt like the world had descended into chaos.
Marvin snorted and, with his wounded love in tow, disappeared into the depths of the forest.
Maggie, feeling helpless, held the massive silver wolf’s neck. “Silver wolf, tell me everything.”
The giant silver wolf wrapped Maggie inside his body and lowered his head to shower kisses on her forehead, cheeks, and neck, attempting to intensify his scent on Maggie. “It won’t affect anything, Alisa is safe now, and we should probably…?”
“No, I’m really worried about Alisa. Take me to find her.”
The silver wolf was highly reluctant; this was the revelry it had long anticipated, and it had imagined marking Maggie entirely tonight. However, now everything was disrupted!
It grumpily scraped its paws against the ground. Maggie pressed her head tightly against the soft fur on the silver wolf’s neck. “She’s my family. In my first two decades of hardship, only Alisa was there to accompany and support me. Aldrich, please help me. I don’t want to fall into deep self-blame and pain.”
“I finally understand why Aldrich always gives in to you. Come on.”
The silver wolf lowered its body. “Climb onto my neck, and I’ll take you to find her.”
“Thank you.”
Maggie climbed onto the silver wolf’s neck, and as it slowly stood up, her field of vision expanded. “Hold on to me.”
“What’s going on here?”
The sound of the wind rushed past her ears, and Maggie buried her head in the wolf’s fur. The feeling of safety relaxed her.
The silver wolf began to explain, “I can tell you, but I need to separate myself from Aldrich.”
“You’re one and the same.”
“Okay, but you can’t get angry.”
“Tell me. Don’t hold back.”
“A few days ago, there was a rogue attack, and one of the victims was Alisa.”
Maggie suddenly gripped the wolf’s fur tightly, making it grimace. “Maggie, dear, remember, this is the lifeline of the wolves here!”
“Don’t change the subject!”
“At that time, Alisa suffered minor injuries and was treated in the hospital.”
“No wonder you’ve been trying to keep me away from the news these days and preventing me from visiting Alisa.”
“It wasn’t me; it was Aldrich! At that time, your morning sickness was severe, and he didn’t want you to worry.”
“But how did Alisa end up here?”
“I don’t know. When Aldrich transferred control of the body to me to enter the Moonlit Forest to find you, I happened to run into Alisa being pursued by that rogue. The rogue was extremely fierce, almost out of control. It would not only humiliate Alisa but also harm her life. I had to save Alisa, and that’s why it took time.”
Maggie felt immense self-blame. “Alisa must have been so scared. She’s been with me through so many tough times, and I neglected her. I deserve to be punished.”
The silver wolf ran at a high speed, taking Maggie to a secluded grove. Behind a massive tree, large enough to surround by four people, Maggie found the unconscious Alisa.
As Maggie got off the silver wolf, it growled softly towards Alisa, making Aldrich warn it through their link, “Silver wolf, calm down a bit. Maggie is very upset right now!”
“The most heartbreaking thing is me! My mate night wasn’t supposed to be like this!”
“Don’t pressure Maggie.”
“Silver wolf, come here!” Maggie called to the silver wolf.
With almost no pause or hesitation, the silver wolf immediately rushed towards Maggie, nudging her shoulder with its head.
“When can we get out of here?” Maggie asked.
“At the earliest, it will be tomorrow morning.”
Maggie looked at the sleeping Alisa with concern. “Is there any water nearby? I want to wash Alisa’s face.”
The silver wolf pondered for a while. “I won’t let anyone else ride on my neck, only you can.”
Maggie looked pitifully at the silver wolf, but the silver wolf was clearly not as considerate and human-like as Aldrich. “Maggie, when you look at me like that, I can’t help myself.”
“You pervert!” Maggie turned her face away. “So we’ll leave tomorrow morning.”
“No, you can’t.”
“You always reject me. I’m going to call Aldrich!”
“Definitely not!”
The silver wolf’s temper flared up, and it playfully tackled Maggie onto the soft grass. “Maggie, you must love me!”
“You’re so domineering!”
Maggie pushed away the silver wolf’s head, and the silver wolf then lowered itself to sniff Maggie’s belly. Realizing its advances, Maggie immediately sat up. “You perverted wolf!”
The silver wolf made a pitiful whining sound. “We’ll leave tomorrow morning, and I’ll be so embarrassed. Most wolves usually wait until the second or even the third night…”
Maggie felt both shocked and relieved. “We need to take care of Alisa; she needs to see a doctor.”
The silver wolf, not pleased, lightly nipped Maggie’s neck. “So when can we?”
Compared to Aldrich’s subtlety, the silver wolf’s open expression of desire made Maggie completely defenseless. She couldn’t bring herself to say anything hurtful to the silver wolf.
“Maggie? I finally get to see you!” Alisa’s voice.
“Alisa, how do you feel?”
Maggie pushed the silver wolf away and walked towards Alisa. She couldn’t help but feel grateful that Alisa had awakened just in time!
