“My mother’s college best friend?”
Flynn’s interest was piqued.
“That’s right. In our time, relationships between men and women weren’t for long.”
“But Jessica Carr, she lived in the same dormitory as your mother and they were practically inseparable!” Matteo said.
“I’m free! I have time now!” Flynn was eager to learn about his mother’s past. He had asked when he was younger, but she didn’t want to talk about it!
“Good! Jessica is in the hospital. Let’s meet at the entrance of the Golden Oak Hospital Center!”
After hanging up the phone, Flynn said goodbye to Trusova and drove to the hospital.
After they met, Matteo talked about Jessica’s situation.
Jessica and Adrianna lived in the same dormitory during their university years, even on bunk beds. They were extremely close.
Adrianna was reserved, gentle, and beautiful. She was especially popular among boys, which made other girls jealous.
Jessica, on the other hand, had a strong personality and a fiery temper.
Adrianna relied on Jessica’s help throughout their four years in university. Without her, Adrianna would have faced harassment from ruffians and the animosity of female classmates.
As Flynn listened, his brow furrowed.
Based on Sebastian’s description of the battle, his mother’s martial arts skills were at least on the level of the Heavenly King of the Nation, or even higher, at the level of a Great Grandmaster.
She could escape from over a hundred Grandmasters and yet couldn’t handle a group of hooligans?
There was only one possibility: she feared that her enemies would discover her hidden strength.
She didn’t want to attract any attention and lived cautiously.
But his mother was a high-level expert at the Heavenly King of the Nation level, so how many opponents could she have?
After all, the Ten Heavenly Kings of the Northern Territory were at the same level, commanding hundreds of thousands of soldiers each, ruling over their respective regions!
Recalling Luca and Sebastian’s expressions of fear when talking about that power, a serious expression flashed across Flynn’s face.
Lost in his thoughts, Flynn arrived at the sixth-floor ward with Matteo.
Inside, there were two patients. One was an elegant old lady with white hair, exuding a noble air.
Standing next to her was a capable middle-aged man wearing exquisite traditional clothing, exuding a strong presence.
On the other bed leaned a thin middle-aged woman, her lips dry, and her skin pale yellow.
From her worn-out clothes and calloused hands, it was clear that she lived in poor conditions.
Sitting next to the bed was a young man with a simple and sorrowful expression, carefully feeding the middle-aged woman some porridge.
When the middle-aged woman saw Matteo approaching, a touch of surprise flashed across her face, and she quickly sat up and called out, “Matteo, why are you here?”
“I heard you were sick, so I wanted to come and see you!” Matteo carried a basket of fruits and pushed Flynn forward. “Flynn, this Ms. Carr!”
Flynn approached and placed the nutritional supplements on the table, then smiled and called out, “Ms. Carr.”
“Matteo, who is this?” Jessica asked.
Matteo introduced, “He is Adrianna’s child, Flynn, and now he’s my son-in-law!”
“What?!” Jessica’s eyes widened in astonishment as she scrutinized Flynn. In just a few seconds, tears welled up in her eyes. “He looks so much like Adrianna! Blink of an eye, and he’s already 28…”
“Matteo! That scoundrel Paxton, I helped him send love letters to Adrianna for two years in college!”
“Paxton abandoned his wife and got involved with a woman from the Wilcox family in Slatin!”
“That venomous woman has been hunting them, and that beast Paxton didn’t stop her!”
Jessica became more and more agitated as she spoke, and she began coughing violently. Matteo quickly patted her back and comforted her, “Don’t dwell on the past. Your health is more important. Don’t think about those unpleasant things!”
“How can I not think about it?” Jessica said with guilt. “If I hadn’t helped Paxton pursue Adrianna, she wouldn’t have been driven away by the Clark family and died in Niarak!”
At this point, she sighed and complained, “Matteo, even you, Adrianna and her child lived in Niarak for so many years, and you didn’t inform me?”
“Since Flynn’s fourth birthday, when I went to Slatin to see Adrianna, the next time I saw her, she had already turned into a tomb.”
Matteo sighed and said, “Your family has been having a hard time, and Adrianna didn’t want to burden you all!”
“To be honest, if it wasn’t for Adrianna coming to Niarak on the day Flynn had a high fever, she wouldn’t have sought me out.”
Jessica sighed repeatedly, “Adrianna was too distant, we were good friends after all!”
“Even if I had to beg for food, as long as she came to me, I would have had enough for her and her child!”
“Flynn, come here and let me have a look!”
She beckoned for Flynn to sit beside her and nodded with a smile.
“Yes! Such a talented young man. When you were in school, I told your mother that if I had a daughter and your mother had a son, our families would be in-laws. But unfortunately, I had a son.”
“But it’s not bad that you married Madeline. Matteo is a good person! It’s good to follow him!”
Matteo smiled and said, “Since Reed and Flynn are both boys, let them be brothers!”
Jessica nodded with a smile, a touch of sadness in her eyes, and sighed, “If only Adrianna were still alive…”
“In my dreams these past years, I’ve dreamed of her still being alive. Ah, how good it would be if it weren’t just a dream!”
Matteo waved his hand and comforted her, “Everyone has to die, it’s inevitable.”
“To be honest, I really wish I could live in our university days forever. People were so innocent back then!”
A single sentence stirred up memories, and Jessica became sentimental.
Flynn asked, “Ms. Carr, you were closest to my mother during your university days. Can you tell me about her life?”
“I don’t even know where my mother’s hometown is.”
“Didn’t Adrianna talk to you about it?” Jessica was taken aback for a moment, then nodded and said, “Maybe there were shadows of Paxton during university life, and she didn’t want to remember.”
“After all, your mother had genuine feelings for Paxton.”
“As for her hometown…”
“We attended college on Pelens, and Adrianna’s family was also on Pelens. I went there with Matteo.”
“But I don’t think that was Adrianna’s father, because he called Adrianna ‘Miss’ and Adrianna called him ‘Uncle Nicolas’.”
“Miss? Uncle Nicolas?” Flynn frowned.
Wasn’t that the address used between masters and servants?
Jessica nodded and said, “Yes, after Adrianna was driven out by the Clark family, I lost track of you and your mother. I went there to search, but unfortunately, it had already turned into ruins.”
“Turned into ruins?” Flynn’s eyes filled with disappointment.
Jessica said, “Your mother was an extraordinary woman. People might think she was gentle and docile, but she had astonishing explosive power and incredible strength.”
“She was like an ordinary person, casually giving me a jade pendant that was worth millions.”
“I thought it was an ordinary item until three years ago when I encountered an antique dealer who insisted on buying it for three million. That’s when I realized the value of that jade pendant!”
“Jade pendant?” Flynn was slightly surprised.
He had reason to believe that his mother must have come from a wealthy family and sought refuge in Pelens with servants.
In order to evade her enemies, his mother must have changed her identity information.
“That’s right,” Jessica said, “During college, I didn’t think your mother had money. Who would have thought that a casually given jade pendant would be worth millions?”
“Oh, by the way, once I found a ring under your mother’s bed. She was very afraid at the time and said the ring was called the ‘Heaven’s Punishment Ring,’ the guardian of the world order, and its appearance would bring chaos.”
“She asked me to keep it a secret at all costs.”
“I didn’t believe your mother’s words, but the gemstone on the ring was very valuable. Did she give it to you before she passed away?”
“Keep a close eye on it, no matter how much money, don’t sell it. Keep it as a memento.”
