As Layla and Lilia walked into the elevator, Flynn’s brow furrowed with suspicion. Wealthy Source Hotel was only a three-star hotel, and the most expensive suite cost only 700 dollars. Layla was worth billions of dollars, and everything from her food to her lodging was of the highest standard. Why would she come to such a low-end hotel today?
“Mr. Clark, I’m sorry for causing such a big misunderstanding,” Harriet said apologetically.
Flynn shook his head and said, “If someone wants to insult you, they won’t care about time or place. They’ll say what they want when they see you.”
“It’s my fault that you were embarrassed. But don’t worry; Lilia is about to cry.”
It was already past nine o’clock at night, so Flynn paid for the room and left Wealthy Source Hotel.
The next day, Flynn was awakened by a phone call from Scarlet.
The two had agreed to attend Odin’s wedding together.
After getting ready, Flynn came down from the mountain, and Scarlet was already waiting at the foot of the mountain.
She was dressed more formally today, wearing a black tight-fitting long-sleeved T-shirt, paired with a pair of slim jeans that showed off her beautiful legs.
After Flynn got into Scarlet’s car, they headed straight to the Fragrant Moon Tower Hotel.
Odin’s wedding banquet was held in the first-floor hall, with two people standing at the entrance: Harriet and a middle-aged man, welcoming the guests.
“Mr. Clark!” Harriet saw Flynn approaching and quickly greeted him.
Scarlet also smiled at her and said, “I’m Scarlet from the Wong family in Pelens.”
Harriet’s eyebrows slightly furrowed.
Bringing a woman other than his wife to the wedding?
Flynn could tell what Harriet was thinking and couldn’t help but force a bitter smile.
He had invited Madeline, but she declined, saying she had too many work-related matters to attend to.
Scarlet was enthusiastic about attending, so he brought her along.
“Oh! Hello, I’m Mr. Clark’s secretary, Harriet.” They shook hands, considering themselves acquainted.
Harriet led the two to the entrance and gestured towards the middle-aged man, introducing him, “Mr. Clark, this is my sister-in-law’s third uncle, who is in charge of bookkeeping today.”
The middle-aged man was slightly taken aback and asked Harriet, “Which company does Mr. Clark work for?”
Harriet explained, “Mr. Clark is my superior. He is the head of security at Energence Pharmaceuticals and also Odin’s classmate.”
Upon hearing this, the middle-aged man sneered and said disdainfully, “I though he’s the head of which company? He’s just the captain of the security team at Energence Pharmaceuticals.”
Flynn furrowed his eyebrows and handed him a thousand dollars as a gift.
After the middle-aged man finished recording the gift, without even looking up, he said, “You can sit at Table 36.”
Harriet frowned upon hearing this and said to the middle-aged man, “Table 36 is too far back. Can you arrange a more prominent seat for them?”
“Prominent? You, a member of the Hamilton family, dare to tell me what to do?” The middle-aged man pointed to the table at the very back of the hall and said coldly, “That table is for Odin’s classmates. Are you suggesting they sit at the head table?”
Then, with a touch of mockery, he added, “As your leader, he only gave a thousand dollar as a gift, which won’t even cover our expenses. Yet you have the nerve to ask for a better seat?”
Upon hearing this, Scarlet became angry and was about to retaliate, but Flynn held her back and said calmly, “It doesn’t matter where we sit. Let’s go.”
After saying that, he walked straight into the hall.
“Brother-in-law, the reality is just as Odin described. The bride’s family is overbearing and looks down on people!” Scarlet grumbled in frustration.
Flynn waved his hand and said calmly, “It doesn’t matter, let it be.”
The two entered the hall.
Flynn was slightly stunned.
This didn’t look like a wedding scene at all. It was more like a year-end company gathering. There were no floral decorations, no balloon arches, and nothing related to the wedding.
The atmosphere was also quite suppressed.
There were thirty-six tables in the hall. The guests at the first twenty tables were dressed better, with red wine and expensive cigarettes worth over a thousand dollar placed on the tables, along with many desserts.
The guests at the back tables, however, looked a bit shabby.
Although their clothes were clean, they were cheap, and the tables were empty.
The guests at the front tables appeared to be well-off city dwellers who had never done hard labor.
The faces of the guests at the back tables showed the marks of wind and frost, and they had a submissive demeanor, exuding a simple and honest aura.
Odin stood at the forefront, his face grim as he argued with a middle-aged man.
The other party, with an air of superiority, though inaudible, was clearly berating Odin from his expressions.
Standing behind Odin were two middle-aged individuals, a man and a woman, constantly nodding and bowing with forced smiles.
The middle-aged woman gripped Odin’s arm, looking extremely tense.
Beside them stood a delicately beautiful woman in a wedding dress, wiping away tears.
“The one scolding my cousin is the father of the bride.”
“The other two are my cousin’s parents, and the one crying is my cousin’s wife, Georgina Holmes.” Harriet sighed deeply, her face filled with profound helplessness.
Flynn narrowed his eyes, seeming to understand.
Odin was clearly unhappy with the arrangement and was confronting the bride’s family, who seemed to be ignoring him.
“Mr. Clark, I’ll go greet the guests first; the table is just ahead,” Harriet said, pointing to the table at the back, and left the room with discontent.
“The Holmes family has gone too far. Even if they have issues with Odin, they should treat everyone equally, especially for their daughter’s sake!”
“They are not only humiliating Odin but also tarnishing their own reputation!” Scarlet, feeling exasperated, remarked.
Flynn shook his head coldly, “It seems the Holmes family never intended for their daughter to marry him; otherwise, they wouldn’t have neglected the wedding arrangements.”
“They want to enrage Odin to the point of calling off the wedding.”
Knowing Odin’s temperament and his great respect for his elders, as evidenced by his care for Harriet’s grandfather, Flynn understood that the Holmes family’s intention was to humiliate him into giving up.
At this crucial moment, with the Holmes family still trying to break them apart, Odin was in a pitiful situation!
If the bride were as unreasonable, Odin could easily walk away, and the wedding might not even take place.
Unfortunately, the bride was deeply in love with Odin, complicating matters.
Flynn sighed and, with Scarlet, approached the thirty-sixth table.
Just as they were about to sit down, Flynn noticed a few familiar faces.
Christopher Ball, Landyn Mullen, and Andrea Barry, all former high school classmates with average grades and no ill intentions.
Flynn had a decent relationship with them during their school days.
However, when he noticed a fifty-year-old middle-aged man, Flynn’s expression changed.
It was their former high school homeroom teacher, Brian Nash!
This teacher was fond of money, often receiving gifts from students on Teachers’ Day. Flynn, unable to afford gifts, had left a grudge, leading to frequent targeting.
Having had enough, Flynn eventually reported him to the school authorities, resulting in Brian’s hopeless career prospects. Fortunately, he had contacts in the education bureau, which saved Brian’s teaching position.
And now, here they were, running into each other at this event.
As Brian’s eyes met Flynn’s, his entire face darkened in an instant!
