“I heard you have made one of my buildings your very own home.” He said, with his seat still turned away.
“I just used it for shelter. Nothing else.” I said.
The man suddenly stood up from his seat.
“What did you say?” He asked.
“I said I only used it for shelter. Nothing else.” I repeated.
“Dave? Is that you?” He asked.
“How do you know my name? I don’t think I mentioned it to you. Who are you?” I asked.
“How could you ever forget me my friend?” He said and turned around.
I stared at him for a while. I knew his face looked familiar but who is he? Wait a minute…
“… Hilton?!” I shouted.
“Dave! My friend… It’s been such a long time.” Hilton said.
“I thought I would never see you again.” I said.
We both hugged each other. Our hug lasted for one full minute before we finally parted.
“How have you been doing Dave? I hope all is well with you. How is your mother doing?” He asked.
I avoided his questions. It isn’t a good time to bring that up right now. I don’t want to spoil the moment.
“So you own this place?” I said.
“Yes. I graduated after four years in the university. I even went to your house twice last year but I couldn’t find you.” He said.
“Yeah. Tough luck I guess.” I replied.
“Come on, this way.” He said.
He led me to the elevator and we got in together.
“We have a lot of catching up to do.” He said and pushed some buttons.
The elevator went down to the last floor. We came out and it was the living room.
He walked to another end of the living room, which had a bar.
“Have a seat.” He said.
I sat down and so did he.
“Stewart!” He called out.
A man rushed towards us and bowed his head before Hilton.
“Serve us some drinks.” Hilton said.
Our drinks were served and we both sipped from ours.
“So, how did all this come to be?” I asked.
“All what?” He asked.
“I mean, how did you end up owning all of this? I even heard that all the houses in this neighborhood are yours.” I replied.
“That’s right.” He replied.
“Tell me everything.” I said.
“It was very tough in the university and most of my course mates were cruel to me. I was kind of a loner” He said.
“Hm. Is that so?” I asked.
“Yes. But I made it anyway. I didn’t take their hurtful and degrading words seriously and I focused on my studies.” He said.
“After I graduated, my father gave me one of his companies to control, as a reward of course. All the houses here are only part of the properties owned by my company.” He added.
“I wish I was as lucky as you were. I mean, having the chance to go to the university. You are lucky to have such parents that can afford your education.” I said.
“Cheer up Dave. At least you still have your mother.” He said.
“Not anymore Hilton, she is dead” I replied.
“What?! Dave, that can’t be true.” He said.
“Unfortunately I’m afraid it’s all nothing but the truth.” I said.
“How did it all happen Dave? How did your mother die?” Hilton asked.
I told him everything. Right from the time that Mr Adams and my mother kept everything between them.
I also told Hilton about the letter that my mother left behind for me to read and know the truth.
“Hilton, I’m on a mission. A mission to kill anyone who thinks he can carry out all the things he wants to, against my family, and get away with it.” I said.
“I will support you Hundred percent Dave.” Hilton said.
“No Hilton. This is my fight. I don’t want you to get involved in this whole mess.” I said.
“You are my best friend Dave. I want to help. I have connections and I can use it to help you find more information about Mr Adams.” Hilton said.
Hilton was really Keen on helping out.
“You will be staying here with me from now on.” Hilton said.
“Thank you Hilton. I really appreciate what you are doing for me.” I said.
“I know how you can get your revenge Dave. It would be a long term work but it will all be worth it at the end.” Hilton said.
“How?” I asked.
“You have to become someone of great status in the country. I really think you have to work on that firstly.” Hilton said.
“You really think so?” I asked.
“Yes. Mr Adams took everything from you right?” Hilton asked.
“Yes.” I answered.
“Then it’s simple. We have to put you in the same position that you would be able to do the same to him.” Hilton said.
“Hilton. I want him dead. Not just to take everything away from him but also to see him dead. I hate him so much!” I said.
“No, you can’t kill him Dave.” Hilton objected.
“And why is that? He killed my mother. He deserves nothing less than death.” I said.
“Dave you can’t kill him. You won’t be any different from him if you do the same thing. He committed a crime so he would pay for it. Just not that way.” Hilton said.
“Okay. I’ll do as you say. We will just take him down from that high place he is, down to zero.” I replied.
“Now back to what I was saying. You have to be in a great position to bring him down. So I have decided to…” Hilton was about to say something.
His phone rings and he takes it out of his pocket. He checks for who the caller is and then looks up at me from the phone.
“Excuse me. I have to pick this call, it’s important.” He said.
He leaves me at the bar to pick his call.
After two to three minutes he comes back.
“Um. I have a very important business to attend to right now. Christy will direct you to one of the guest rooms.” He said.
“Christy!” He calls out.
A lady dressed as a maid comes in from a different room.
“You called sir? She said.
“Yes. Take this man to one of the guest rooms. Make sure his needs are met. I don’t want to hear any complaints from him, got it?” He said to the maid.
“Yes sir.” She answered.
Hilton rushes out of the mansion.
“This way sir.” The maid said.
She starts walking up the stairs and I followed from behind.
