Aoife’s face turned pale in an instant, her breathing faltered.
Boss? Dog?
It turned out that she was nothing but a dog by Finn’s side for that year.
Aoife’s eyes welled up, a myriad of words swirling in her mind, but in the end, she couldn’t bring herself to say anything. What’s the point of caring so much? After all, she had to leave, she couldn’t provoke Finn, but she could hide, especially since this time he was the one driving her away.
Her pinky finger had not fully recovered, but fortunately, it was her left hand pinky that was injured, not affecting her daily life. The pain was just a reminder that she deserved it.
Aoife slowly lowered her head, not looking at Finn. “You can’t park here, you better leave. I have been sent away by you, things once sent away can’t be retrieved.”
“Damn it!” Finn felt like his heart and lungs were about to explode. He kept cursing Aoife as despicable, but in reality, he was just as despicable.
He didn’t even know what he was doing, tossing and turning, thinking about her, unable to resist running to her for no reason.
Finn knew clearly that he was the one who sent Aoife away, and Aoife had blocked and deleted him. Now, coming up to her was simply a blow to his own pride, and Aoife didn’t show any affection.
Finn raged, “I’m going to park the car here, what’s it to you?”
Aoife trembled slightly, she really couldn’t stop him. Since he wasn’t leaving, she would.
Aoife turned and walked away, thinking about catching another taxi at the next stop, if necessary, she would just walk back.
Her eyes felt dry, Aoife rubbed them, her slender figure looking somewhat pitiful in the darkness.
She didn’t understand. Finn wanted her to leave, so why was he here now, insulting her?
She had never done anything wrong to him, spending that year with him honestly playing the role of a substitute, being a maid doing all the chores, cooking, cleaning, she knew she didn’t live better than a dog, but she didn’t want to hear anyone mocking her like that.
Moreover, this person was someone she treated with all her heart.
She was humble and weak with no backbone, but she had dignity too. Why did Finn have the right to treat her like this?
She was willing to stay by his side because she liked him, but even the most passionate feelings would eventually dissipate and become stagnant.
It was Finn who handed her over to other men, why did he have the right to throw her away whenever he pleased? He said go back, and she would obediently go back.
Even a dog, when beaten and abandoned by its owner, would show its fangs in anger.
Finn was exasperated, clenched his fist and pounded on the steering wheel, attracting the attention of a traffic policeman. The traffic policeman came over to remind him, “Sir, you can’t park here.”
Finn ignored him, closing the car window.
He drove off, still wanting to catch up with Aoife, but realized there was no point in talking to her, he could just find a place and shove her into the car.
People like Aoife, patience was unnecessary, even if she was in danger, she probably wouldn’t scream.
That’s what he thought, as he turned around, Aoife had already gotten into a taxi by the roadside.
Finn looked at the taxi in front of him, following closely after. He wanted to see where Aoife was going after leaving him.
His impression of Aoife now was not good, he was convinced that she had hooked up with Ethan, now that she had left him, she might be living with Ethan.
A voice in his head was crazily reminding him to go after her and snatch her back.
And Finn followed his instincts.
But as the surroundings grew more desolate, tall buildings eventually turned into old neighborhoods, Finn furrowed his brows.
Ethan, at least, was the prince of Jiang Corporation, even if he couldn’t afford a mansion to keep a woman, he could at least live in a luxury apartment building.
Where was this place?
A roadside stall? A junkyard?
After getting into the taxi, Aoife told the driver her destination and fell silent, appearing as if she didn’t exist at all. Along the way, she looked at the familiar scenery outside, opened the window, letting the wind dry the tears in her eyes.
When they reached the destination, Aoife paid the fare and got off, noticing a vegetable stall by the side of the road selling leftovers from the daytime, not very fresh but very cheap.
“Girl, there’s a lot of leftover vegetables today, just take them all for ten dollars, I’m about to close shop.”
Aoife thanked the vendor repeatedly and didn’t bother picking, taking the bag and stuffing all the vegetables in. The weight was around five pounds, enough to last her for several days.
She focused on buying vegetables, completely unaware that someone not far behind had been watching her all along.
Aoife carried the vegetables upstairs, and Finn slowly followed, glancing at the old woman tidying up her stall on the way home.
After leaving him, Aoife was surviving on these things? He looked up at the dimly lit old apartment building, the walls were grey, covered with moss and grime, with a garbage dump nearby. The weather was hot, and the garbage emitted a foul smell, the stench of which lingered even inside the corridor.
Several stray dogs were circling around the dump, looking for scraps, and there were wild cats making tearing sounds.
Finn followed her inside, the corridor was extremely dark, the light was still broken, flickering sporadically, emitting eerie sizzling sounds.
Aoife turned on the flashlight on her phone to navigate upstairs, she had been living here for some time, but every night she would feel scared, luckily, she had not encountered any bad people, and the neighbors around her were decent.
Aoife pushed open the door, the rooms here were not soundproof, the footsteps outside were clearly audible.
The quieter the room was, the louder the outside sounds seemed. Normally, Aoife wouldn’t pay any attention, but tonight the footsteps outside sounded strange, and she was already a naturally timid and sensitive person.
