The blissful state of pregnancy without any morning sickness was interrupted. Louis looked nervous, worried about Elisa’s well-being, and quickly took her to the hospital for a prenatal check-up.
The process of the check-up was complicated, but luckily there was no need to wait in line. They spent the entire morning on it – blood tests, urine tests, blood pressure and weight checks, trace element examinations, ultrasound…
After completing the series of tests, Louis accompanied Elisa to the waiting area for the results.
Elisa had been pregnant before, but both pregnancies were too short-lived. The second child stayed in her womb for only four months, and although the baby could move, they had to be delivered through a caesarean section.
During her previous pregnancies, Elisa underwent the check-ups alone. At that time, she also experienced intense morning sickness, unable to eat and suffering from swollen legs. She felt weak all day long.
Prenatal check-ups were quite tedious, and as soon as things quieted down, it was easy to fall asleep. In the past, she silently persevered through these check-ups by herself, but now she had someone by her side.
Elisa subconsciously turned her head to look at Louis and noticed his gaze. Louis turned his head to look at her, seeing some bloodshot eyes. He pulled her into his embrace.
“Take a nap. I’ll wake you up when the results are out.”
“Mmm.” Elisa nodded, nuzzled into his embrace, and found a comfortable position before closing her eyes.
The hospital had a faint smell of disinfectant that Elisa couldn’t tolerate. It made her chest feel stuffy. However, leaning against Louis, that smell instantly disappeared, replaced by a sense of safety she had never felt before.
Louis tightly held her with both hands. To ensure Elisa’s peaceful sleep, he stiffened his whole body and didn’t dare to move at all.
Louis looked at the promotional posters on the wall advocating for healthy pregnancies and births, as well as various prenatal check-up charts. The babies depicted on them were chubby and had big, grape-like eyes. Louis became deeply engrossed, unable to resist wondering if their child would be a boy or a girl.
They say boys resemble their mothers, while girls resemble their fathers. Louis wanted both a boy and a girl. A boy would be less likely to be bullied, and he would be reluctant to give away his daughter when she grew up. Even before the child was born, he felt the ache of an old father, full of reluctance.
Louis was more inclined towards having a girl. Girls could resemble their mother. Just imagine having a mini version of Elisa – how cute would that be?
Elisa was pregnant with twins – a boy and a girl would be perfect.
In that case, Elias and Winna would be born.
The gender of the child could be determined at four months of pregnancy, but they would have to wait until next month.
Elisa sat in Louis’ arms, feeling slightly uneasy while sleeping. She thought she had slept for a long time, but when she woke up and looked at the clock, it had only been ten minutes.
Seeing Louis staring at the wall, Elisa asked, “What are you looking at?”
“Nothing in particular, just thinking about whether it’s a boy or a girl. It would be nice to know the gender so we can choose a nickname. Oh, by the way…” Louis asked her, “Do you have any thoughts about the nickname?”
Elisa thought for a moment and said, “Bob and Rob. What do you think?” She was not good at choosing names and couldn’t come up with anything.
If it was only one child, they could name him/her Taylor, a name suitable for both boys and girls. But now that there were already two children in her belly, the names had to be somewhat related.
Louis smiled and said, “We can take our time to think about it once we confirm the gender of the child. Do you want a boy or a girl?”
“It’s not something I can decide just by thinking. Both a boy and a girl are fine. If it’s a boy, I’ll let him learn boxing. If it’s a girl, she can pursue arts, like dancing. But it also depends on the interests of both children. If it’s a boy and a girl, I hope the boy will be protective of his sister.” As Elisa spoke, she couldn’t help but start imagining her two children growing up from babies to walking to school. A smile formed at the corners of her mouth, and she placed her hand on her abdomen.
They say pregnancy comes with “pregnancy syndrome,” similar to premarital jitters, where fear of the unknown future arises. But Elisa didn’t have that.
The test results came out quickly, and the doctor came out with the examination report, explaining each detail. It was normal to have morning sickness now, especially with twins, the symptoms would be stronger and last longer. This was considered a normal reaction that couldn’t be solved with medication.
After learning that everything was fine, Louis let out a sigh of relief.
“I told you there was nothing to worry about.”
“Mmm.” With one hand holding the examination report and the other hand holding Elisa’s hand, Louis walked out of the hospital. Elisa’s body was healthy, and that eased his mind.
The anxiety she had before coming to the hospital had diminished significantly. Parking the car at the hospital entrance, Louis went to move the car as Elisa waited for him.
Looking at Louis’ figure running over, Elisa looked up at the sky. It was already April, and summer would come soon.
There weren’t many people outside the hospital, but Elisa couldn’t help but feel nervous about her belly. She constantly looked around and protected it with her hands.
Suddenly, she saw a familiar figure in the hospital corridor. She turned her head to look, but the figure quickly entered the elevator.
