During the search, Louis calmed down and thought a lot. He remembered the day at the amusement park when Elisa had an accident on the bungee jump and spoke those words in an agitated state.
“It wasn’t an accident!”
Since then, Louis noticed Elisa’s emotional instability. She was often absent-minded and not herself. He thought she was just shaken up, so he comforted her and didn’t dwell on her words, “It wasn’t an accident.”
Recently, Hamish had also disappeared. The amusement park incident, Elisa’s sudden departure, all easily linked together in his mind. Elisa was with Hamish.
This was the result Louis least wanted to consider. He knew how ruthless Hamish could be, also knowing how scared Elisa was of him, not to mention the fact that Elisa had once “died” at Hamish’s hands.
Louis clenched his fists tightly, finally losing control. He punched the wall, his fingers turned red, the pain nearing a fracture, but out of fear, he didn’t feel it much. He continued to clench his hand, his knuckles turning white.
Soon, Mrs. White also learned of Elisa’s departure and found Louis after coming out of the hospital.
Her thoughts were also on Hamish.
Based on the time of Elisa’s departure, the most significant change was in the White Group’s shares. The previously declining shares were slowly rising, and the companies that had previously refused to cooperate were now calling to initiate partnerships.
The White Group was in peril, all caused by Hamish, all for the sake of Elisa. Without his loosening grip, the White Group wouldn’t have recovered so quickly.
So, Elisa was truly with Hamish.
She sacrificed herself, went to Hamish, and in return, brought stability to the White Group.
After analyzing this, Mrs. White staggered back two steps, covering her mouth, tears rolling down her cheeks.
How could this child be so foolish?
Hadn’t she said that what the White family wanted was her, not the company? Money is an external thing; it can be earned again. But a person only has one life, one destiny. Why wouldn’t this foolish child listen?
Mrs. White cried in the bathroom. Afterward, she washed her face, her eyes still a bit red. She composed herself, gritting her teeth, and went to find Louis.
From her assistant, she found out that Louis had been hospitalized for acute gastroenteritis yesterday. He had been discharged after three hours and immediately went to look for Elisa. He hadn’t rested a moment since he hadn’t found her-his obsession with Elisa keeping him going.
Mrs. White looked at him, his face as pale as gold paper, lips a pale purple. She feared he wouldn’t hold up and would end up in the hospital like his father.
It was quite cold outside, and Louis stood at a windy spot making a phone call, a sickly expression on his face.
After he hung up, Mrs. White approached and asked, “Still no news from her?”
Louis shook his head. His once bright eyes were now clouded. After a while, he parted his cracked lips and said, “I’ve lost her again… If I had noticed something was amiss earlier, perhaps she wouldn’t have left. It’s because my strength isn’t enough, that’s why she doesn’t believe in me… and chose to leave me…”
Before he could finish, Mrs. White hugged him tenderly. “Her leaving has nothing to do with you losing her. It’s because she cares too much about you, that’s why she chose to leave.”
Yet no matter how she comforted him, Louis’s emotions couldn’t calm down. He was still the orphanage boy when he first saw Hamish, whom he disliked from the start. He didn’t like Hamish’s attitude towards Elisa. At that time, he had wanted to kill him.
If he had acted and killed him back then, would none of this have happened? Elisa wouldn’t have died, wouldn’t have suffered so much.
Now, whenever he closed his eyes, Elisa’s face appeared in his mind, her teary eyes pleading for help, wanting to see him.
Mrs. White said, “I’ll go find Elisa. You go rest. Your health comes first. Don’t end up in the hospital like your father.”
“Mom, I can’t calm down.”
“If you can’t calm down, then go back to the company and handle business matters. Many partners have been calling today. It’s better to be in the office than constantly braving the wind outside.”
“She’s disappeared now.”
Mrs. White pursed her lips and didn’t say anything.
Louis continued, “You can say I’m stubborn or reckless, but I took over the White family just for her. I want to support the White family, prevent it fromgoing bankrupt, just to alleviate Elisa’s guilt and worries.”
“I know everything. I tried my best to keep her, but she still left, fearing she would drag down the White family and me. But all I ever wanted was her. Now that she’s gone, I realize that if this was the result, the White family going bankrupt at the start wouldn’t have mattered.”
He said this without a care, which sent a chill down Mrs. White’s spine, but she quickly composed herself.
Louis stepped back with red eyes, distancing himself from Mrs. White. “I’m sorry, Mom. She’s gone now. I don’t want to waste my energy managing the company anymore. I just want to find her. I’ve missed her too much, I don’t want to miss her again.”
