Chapter 528 Finding You After Dark Instead of Finding Light

With the sudden storm, it came and went quickly. After the rain subsided, the villa’s power was restored. Though thunder still rumbled outside, the lights inside made it less frightening.
The room’s lights suddenly came on. Louis asked, “Did the power go out just now?”
“You ran up from downstairs and didn’t know?”
“I didn’t…” He had no idea what had happened downstairs. He had hurried inside after parking the car, only knowing that Elisa was afraid of the dark and thunder. He wanted to be by her side as quickly as possible.
So, when faced with the pitch-black room, he didn’t think to turn on the light, thus unaware of the power outage.
Elisa suddenly remembered the scene she had seen in the art film she had watched earlier. Do you know what true love is? It’s like the room suddenly goes dark, and instead of finding light, you find each other.
Seeing Louis drenched, Elisa felt a pang of heartache. Louis hadn’t fully recovered, yet he had taken over the White family’s affairs and had been working overtime for a month straight. Although they had meals on time, his body couldn’t bear the excessive work and lack of sleep. Now, dark circles had appeared under his eyes, his skin was pallid, and the cold rain made him look like a soaked piece of paper.
Seeing no panic on Elisa’s face, Louis breathed a sigh of relief and, realizing he was still cold and wet, quickly let her go.
“The sheets are wet… I’ll change them.”
Elisa glanced at the faint water stains on the bed, barely noticeable, but she was afraid of catching a cold in this cold weather.
“You go take a shower, I’ll change the sheets.”
“But it’s still thundering outside…”
“I’m not afraid anymore,” Elisa said as she pushed Louis toward the bathroom. As long as she wasn’t alone, she wasn’t afraid of these things.
After Louis finished showering and came out, Elisa had already changed the sheets. She sat on the bed, looking at her phone. When she heard the bathroom door open, she immediately put down her phone without a trace.
“I want to show you something.” Elisa placed her phone down and opened the bedside drawer, taking out a jewelry box. Inside was the jade bracelet Mrs. White had given her today. Its significance was too precious, and Elisa was worried it might get damaged if worn, so she had taken it off as soon as she got back and put it in the jewelry box.
“When did my mother give you this bracelet?”
“Do you know this jade bracelet?”
“Yes, my mother said this jade bracelet has been passed down through the generations of the White family to their daughters-in-law. My grandmother gave it to my mother, and now my mother has given it to you.” Louis reached for it. The jade was of excellent quality; such a bracelet would easily be worth millions.
“Brittany wanted it before. My mother didn’t give it to her, waiting for me to marry a daughter-in-law.”
“What if you never get married?” Elisa curiously asked.
Louis closed the jewelry box and earnestly replied, “If I never get married, then naturally this bracelet would go to Brittany. I can only say she’s out of luck.” He smiled and added, “Did you go to the hospital to see my father today?”
“Yes, he’s recovering quite well. He’s also quite open about the company’s affairs and asked me to remind you not to overwork yourself.”
Louis shook his head, got into bed, and hugged Elisa, saying, “My father used to tell me to study management, thinking that when he couldn’t work anymore, he would hand over the company to me. I didn’t want to and even said to him that I didn’t care about this company.” He turned his head and rubbed his cheek against Elisa’s soft hair, his voice heavy, “After taking over, I realized it’s not easy, and my father… has indeed grown old.”
Many things he hadn’t paid much attention to before, now, upon reflection, he realized that people age in an instant, just like his father suddenly had a head full of white hair and couldn’t move in bed.
“The White Group was founded through his hard work. I don’t want to let the company go under, but I have no other choice. Elisa, do you think I’m useless?” he asked, resting his chin on Elisa’s shoulder.
Elisa reached out and touched his face. “No, you are the most capable person in my heart.”
Louis hadn’t even gone to college, let alone studied management. His current achievements were entirely due to his talent.
Being able to protect the people around him made him the most capable person.
“Louis, we are the most suitable for each other in this world.” Whether it was spiritually or physically, they fit together. Theycould embrace each other in the winter and seek warmth. When she was afraid, he always managed to arrive in time, offering her a safe embrace.
Outside, the thunder continued, but Elisa was no longer afraid.
Louis gently patted Elisa’s back, as if soothing a child. Watching Elisa’s sleeping face, he couldn’t help but reach out and touch her eyelashes.
Elisa slept restlessly, furrowing her eyebrows and occasionally making soft noises. Only when Louis lightly patted her back did she find some relief.
Elisa’s restless sleep had a reason. She had experienced many dreams throughout the night, sometimes dreaming of Hamish, then of the deceased Koby, and at times even dreaming of Louis and his parents.
These past few days, Elisa hadn’t been sleeping soundly, but having frequent nightmares all night was a first. Perhaps the reason lay in the text message on her phone.
The next day, Elisa woke up naturally, subconsciously turning around to find herself against a warm embrace. She instantly woke up and turned to look. Louis was still by her side. What time was it? Was he not going to work?
Louis was known in the entertainment industry as the “divine face,” with delicate features. Elisa pinched his ear, causing him to stir slightly. The man holding her woke up.
“When did you wake up? It’s still early; want to sleep a little longer?”
“It’s not early; the sun is already out. Aren’t you going to the office today?” The bedroom curtains were drawn, and faint golden light seeped in through the cracks.
“I’m not going. I’ve already handed over my work matters, resting for a day won’t hurt. Today, we’re going out on a date, our first one after getting married.”
Elisa became interested, dispelling the gloom from her nightmares. “Where are we going for the date?”
Louis chuckled, “With this weather, let’s go to the amusement park. I recalled that our first meeting was also there. If we have extra time in the evening, we can also soak in the hot springs.” With winter arriving, Elisa was sensitive to the cold, so soaking in the hot springs would be beneficial for her.
After a night of rain, the temperature had dropped by several degrees, signaling the onset of winter. Elisa, being sensitive to the cold, had put on her down jacket early. The jacket was loose, revealing a glimmering white neckline.
After they got ready, just as they were about to leave, Louis noticed Elisa’s neck. “Wait a moment, I’ll go upstairs to get something. Don’t go out in the cold.”
Louis hurried upstairs and soon returned with a scarf in hand.
“Put on the scarf.”
Elisa was afraid of the cold but disliked wearing scarves, always feeling itchy around her neck.
“It’s cold outside; don’t catch a cold.” Louis wrapped the scarf around Elisa’s neck and fastened it, saying, “I know you don’t like wearing scarves, but wear it for now. When your body warms up, you can take it off.”
“Okay.” Elisa nodded obediently, standing still with her back straight, letting Louis tie the scarf around her neck.
The scarf around her neck was still somewhat uncomfortable, but it was genuinely warm.
Elisa and Louis went to the amusement park together, not driving but instead having a driver pick them up. Throughout the journey, Elisa leaned on Louis’s shoulder, looking out the window. Louis chattered on, holding Elisa’s hand, soothing her like a child.
Since they hadn’t had breakfast yet, they stopped at a breakfast shop on the way. Louis got out of the car and bought a lot of breakfast items. They were all Elisa’s favorites, and by the time they finished eating, they were nearly at the hospital.
To avoid being recognized, both of them were dressed in layers and wore face masks. While their outward appearance was concealed, their presence couldn’t be hidden. Even if they were wrapped up like spring rolls, they would still attract attention.
Hand in hand, they paid no heed to the curious glances around them.
It was a workday, and winter had arrived, yet the amusement park was still crowded. Louis never let go of Elisa’s hand, holding it tightly as if afraid of losing her.
Louis asked her, “Elisa, what do you want to play?”
Elisa scanned the surroundings and finally settled on the bungee jumping ride. “Anything is fine.”
Louis followed her gaze. “You want to play bungee jumping?”
Elisa replied, “I’ve never played it, and I’m curious.”
“Then let’s go play.” Louis purchased VIP tickets, allowing them access to all the rides in the amusement park.
He took Elisa to the queue. There weren’t many people queueing for the vertical bungee jumping ride, so they got through quickly.
