Chapter 506: Let’s Make a Bet

Book:Mr. Burns Is Killing His Wife Published:2024-6-4

Had he not had a chance to prove it his way? Was he really going to give up?
Unwilling… truly unwilling…
Loving Elisa to the extreme, he couldn’t trust her with anyone else.
Hamish, deep down, was a heavily guarded person. He couldn’t even entrust his back to others, let alone give away his heart.
After living for so many years, the only person who stayed by his side for the longest time was Tobias alone. He couldn’t hold onto anyone he wanted to keep in his life.
His parents died in front of him, and Elisa left him too.
Sometimes Hamish felt like a fish caught on the shore, played with by fate. The hook was in his cheek, and as long as it wasn’t taken out, even if he returned to the water, no matter how far he swam, he would eventually come back to the starting point.
Hamish raised his hand to touch the burn on his left chest. It had been four or five years since the injury, and this burn hadn’t dissipated at all. Clearly, the wound had long healed, but now it suddenly started to hurt, as if a knife had pierced straight through his heart.
Apart from illness, the pain he felt now didn’t really exist.
Hamish knew clearly that this wasn’t the life he wanted, but it was the one he had chosen for himself.
When a person becomes so lonely, there’s nothing to say, not even the bitterness can be shared. In the end, even the shadow will leave, let alone the person he longed for.
Hamish didn’t want to resign himself, but he had to. In the face of death, everything was meaningless.
He wanted to do one last thing, make a bet. If he won, it would be the last thing he did for Elisa. If he lost, then he would let go… completely let go.
It’s not that he didn’t trust Louis; Louis had saved his life. What he couldn’t trust were the people of the White family, and he didn’t believe that when it really came down to it, Louis could resist them.
Hamish propped himself up slightly and picked up his phone from the cabinet.
“Act as I told you before. I want to see results within three months.”

Elisa had been watching over Louis until the day his IV drip ran out, then she could relax briefly.
She held Louis’s hand, leaned on the bed, closed her eyes, and the nurse, seeing her lying like that, knew her neck and waist wouldn’t bear it, so she woke her up.
“Miss Powell, why don’t you lie down for a while? You don’t have to keep watching him. I’m afraid your body won’t be able to take it.”
Nurses in the hospital could get temporary beds and blankets, but Elisa didn’t get one because she had no intention of lying down to sleep.
Elisa shook her head and hoarsely said, “It’s okay, I’ll just rest for a while.”
There had been times of great work stress before, and she had endured it, even when the fire burned her, so she could certainly endure it now.
The nurse, unable to persuade her, stopped trying. She was afraid Elisa would catch a cold, so she went to get a blanket for her.
“Cover yourself with this, don’t catch a cold.”
Elisa got up to thank her and took the blanket from the nurse’s hands.
She put the blanket aside without covering herself, it wasn’t cold in the hospital with the air conditioning running, and she was still wearing Louis’s coat.
Leaning back in the chair, her neck stiffened, and finally, she lay her head on the bed, closing her eyes.
She hadn’t been asleep for long when her consciousness became hazy. She felt someone gently touching her head.
She opened her eyes immediately, and Louis’s hand had somehow fallen on her head, gently stroking it, easing her unease.
Elisa lifted her head and met Louis’s gentle gaze, which at this moment, seemed like the fog had cleared, revealing countless stars inside.
Seeing Louis wake up, Elisa didn’t show as much excitement as one might expect, she was very calm, so calm that she felt her heart beating rapidly.
When Louis was taken to the operating room to sign the surgery agreement, she was prepared, ready for him to wake up. If he didn’t wake up, she would sleep next to him.
Louis waking up was something she had expected. It was not only Micah’s comfort, but also her belief that Louis wouldn’t leave her alone.
“Thirsty?” Elisa asked.
Louis opened his mouth, his throat too dry to speak, so he just nodded slightly.
Elisa quickly got up to get a glass of water. After testing the temperature to make sure it wasn’t too hot, she carefully spoonedwater into Louis’s mouth, watching as he slowly swallowed.
She fed him slowly, afraid he might choke on the water.
After finishing the entire glass, Louis looked at her with bloodshot eyes and made an effort to speak, “Why don’t you lie down? Is your neck hurting? Are your feet cold?”
Elisa said, “It’s not hurting, and I’m not cold. You can’t take such risks with your life in the future.”
“What risks?”
“Like this time, just after your surgery, waking up and running so far to find me…”
“That’s not allowed. If I hadn’t gone to find you, what if someone had bullied you?” Louis smiled. He had missed out on so much of Elisa’s life. When he was still a fool, he knew Hamish wasn’t good to Elisa, but he couldn’t do anything about it. Elisa had suffered in ways he couldn’t see, being scolded by her father, being cheated and sold at a casino by her brother, being beaten, being humiliated by passersby… suffering from depression, losing two children, being tortured by Finn, and finally dying in a fire with her legs cut off. The person he had guarded in his heart for so many years had been bullied time and time again. Just thinking about it hurt him deeply. He couldn’t even imagine how Elisa had made it to 27 years old in her previous life.
So, in this life, when he found her, he vowed never to let anyone bully her.
So when he found out that Elisa was facing the media alone, he propped up his painful body and called out her name, no matter how far away she was, he had to find her and support her.
Love, perhaps, was like a mouth ulcer. Knowing it hurts, but still unable to resist touching it with the tip of the tongue. Life comes with sweetness, but also with saltiness.
Louis didn’t say everything in his heart, but Elisa understood. She gently held his hand. “I promised, once you recover and leave the hospital, we will get married. We can’t delay any longer…”
Louis asked, “Do you regret leaving the entertainment industry?”
“I don’t regret it. I had wanted to leave a long time ago. I’m not suited for the entertainment industry. Fulfilling Aoife’s wish is enough for me.”
To make those who had hurt Aoife regret, to clear her name, and to let everyone in the country know her name.
Elisa didn’t know what was happening online, but based on her experience, it was surely chaotic.
On the 21st, the movie Elisa starred in won all the awards, she was crowned the best actress, and the first thing she announced on stage was her retirement from the entertainment industry.
The entertainment industry was in chaos. Shortly after, news of Louis being hospitalized was leaked, and then Louis appeared, dispelling the rumors, and announcing that Elisa was his fiancée.
Almost two years of rumors were put to rest as the main characters made it official. It was a rollercoaster of events, and the public was completely absorbed in the drama.
