Can businessmen ever get along with money? Lorelei never imagined that the usually silent A. W. Group would suddenly issue a notice, publicly announcing the termination of her contract with the “Revenge and Love” production team.
Initially, the contracts with the production team were signed under the company’s name, which meant that in case of any issues, the company would bear the majority of the responsibility. After X Entertainment went bankrupt, the agreements naturally transferred to the company that acquired it, A. W. Group.
A. W. Group indeed had the right to terminate the contract with the production team, but this would not benefit them in any way. Lorelei racked her brain but couldn’t fathom what the higher-ups at the company were thinking. She was the company’s highest-earning and most famous artist. Despite the recent controversies, she had dealt with them independently, hiring her own public relations team to ensure a positive image for the company.
The only negative impression was the incident with the cat, but she wasn’t the one who had caused its demise. Given enough time, such a minor issue would gradually fade from public memory. Regardless of the pros and cons, the new company should not have abandoned her! Yet, the announcement from A. W. last night clearly indicated they intended to sideline her. She couldn’t understand what mistake she had made, breaching the company contract and causing a social impact.
Consequently, when she received the message this morning from the president of A. W. Group to come to the headquarters, she immediately put on makeup and headed over.
Two security guards escorted her to the elevator, standing either side of her or in front and behind her, giving off an air of guarding a “prisoner.”
With her mind focused on the upcoming meeting with the company’s top brass, Lorelei failed to notice the changes around her.
Outside the president’s office, the security guards knocked on the door.
“Come in.”
Lorelei frowned. How could there be a woman’s voice inside? And it sounded so familiar.
Before she could dwell on it further, the door opened, and the two security guards stood aside, allowing her to enter.
Lorelei swallowed nervously. She was so tense that her face felt stiff, unable to express any emotion. She clenched her fists, took a deep breath, and entered. She had come today to negotiate with A. W.
It was unacceptable that “Revenge and Love” unilaterally terminated her contract without informing her and even released a notice that damaged her reputation. As a company artist, she also had human rights and could very well sue A. W. for breach of contract and defamation, using the original contract she had signed to claim compensation!
With this in mind, she gathered some courage, and as soon as she entered, she felt an oppressive aura. She gazed directly ahead and first saw a burly man with a scar on his face.
Was this the company president?
Lorelei attempted to force a smile, but her expression froze as soon as she caught a glimpse of someone.
This was…
Elisa?!
How could Elisa be here? Wasn’t she supposed to be filming with the production team at this time? Why was she in the chairman’s office at A. W.’s headquarters, sitting in the chair?
Could it be…
Lorelei glanced at Scarface and finally understood why the company unilaterally terminated the contract with “Revenge and Love” and released a notice online to blacklist her. It was all because of Elisa.
Elisa!
She had underestimated that seductive face of hers. She actually managed to seduce the new company’s CEO.
How could there be such shameless and brazen people in this world!
Elisa wanted to drive her away? That was simply a dream!
With a steely gaze, Lorelei stared at Elisa. As Elisa deftly twirled the pen in her hand, Patrick’s attention was also drawn to her.
Seeing Lorelei enter, she stopped her movements. “Lorelei, long time no see. How have you been lately?”
“Thanks to you! I’ve been doing great recently,” Lorelei gritted her teeth. She glanced at Patrick with a strange tone, “Elisa, I truly envy your skills. After seducing Asher, Louis, Hamish, and Finn, you still managed to sit here. Aren’t you afraid that all your fish in the pond will be exposed?”
Elisa raised an eyebrow and asked lightly, “Does my sitting here have anything to do with them?”
At that moment, the secretary brought coffee, carefully placed it on the table in front of Elisa and said, “Miss Powell.”
Miss Powell?
Was this addressing Elisa?
Elisa was the CEO of A. W.? Lorelei couldn’t help but doubt if she was hearing things or if she was having an illusion.
The secretary finished serving the coffee and was about to leave when Lorelei stepped forward, blocking thesecretary. “Wait, who exactly is the CEO of A. W.? Shouldn’t it be him?” She pointed at Patrick.
The secretary sneered, “That’s our Miss Powell’s bodyguard. You come here every day and you don’t even know who our CEO is?”
Not only did she not know, Lorelei even mistook Elisa for a “lover.”
Lorelei’s body stiffened, disbelief evident in her wide-eyed stare.
How could Elisa be the head of A. W.?
This was impossible. Lorelei knew Elisa’s background too well. She might be pretty, but she came from a rural area, with no money, no connections, and without even completing her college education. In the two or three years she had been in the entertainment industry, she had been nothing but trouble, criticized all over the internet. She was Lorelei’s scapegoat, someone she couldn’t even control, let alone the fact that she had effortlessly acquired the previous company. How could she be the CEO of A. W. Group, let alone easily acquire her former company?
It took Lorelei a while to process it. Her face turned pale, the color draining from her lips. “Miss Hannah, you’re not joking, are you? How could Elisa be your boss?”
Miss Hannah looked serious. “Do I look like I’m joking?”
But Lorelei still couldn’t believe it.
How could Elisa be the CEO of A. W.? It was simply unbelievable!
She must not have woken up properly today and was experiencing illusions, or she was still in a dream.
Lorelei squeezed her fists hard, her nails digging into her palms, causing pain.
She couldn’t accept this reality. Elisa had always been her stepping stone, someone she couldn’t compare to in any way. But… when had Elisa completely changed?
It was since the day of the audition for the supporting female role in “Revenge and Love.” Elisa had become an entirely different person.
She had never wanted to admit that she was inferior to Elisa, but now she felt like a clown, her whole body soaked in cold sweat, her eyes filled with fear.
As Elisa sat in the boss’s chair, arms crossed in front of her, with a half-smile on her face, even though she was shorter than Lorelei, from Lorelei’s perspective, she exuded an overwhelming sense of superiority.
Lorelei was so frightened by this scene that her legs went weak, and suppressed memories flooded her mind like foam, instantly taking over her entire brain.
She staggered backward. “Who are you?”
This Elisa reminded her of the “Elisa” who had died in the fire pit three years ago. She had almost forgotten. Seven years ago, the eldest Miss of the Powell family, who had ruled over the Powell Group, was just like this-domineering, arrogant, and untouchable.
She had envied her, resented her, and had wanted nothing more than to destroy her.
