Chapter 250: You’re not planning on having children yet

Elisa bathed in the sunlight, the fine fuzz clearly visible. Her complexion, already tinged with a sickly pallor, now seemed to become even more translucent in the play of light and shadow.
When Elisa saw Tobias arriving, she then took the lunchbox and went inside.
She casually glanced at the receptionist who had greeted her earlier and said nothing.
“Let’s go upstairs,” Tobias said.
Being a shrewd man, Tobias immediately understood something. “I’ll inform the front desk to directly escort you upstairs when you arrive in the future.”
“Yes, thank you. It will save a lot of time, and I won’t have to wait outside,” she said.
Tobias walked on Elisa’s right and took the lunchbox from her, then glanced at Beatrix.
Though it was just a seemingly ordinary look, Beatrix felt a chill run down her spine. All that remained in her mind were two words: it’s over.
Having passed through the main gate to the top floor’s CEO office unimpeded, thanks to a pass, they reached there without any hindrance.
Tobias handed the access card to Elisa for her convenience in moving in and out.
“Where’s Hamish?” Elisa asked after taking it from him.
When she had called Hamish just now, it was Tobias who had answered.
“Is he still in a meeting?” Tobias nodded. No one dared to meddle in Hamish’s work matters. Elisa checked the time on her phone. It was already twelve twenty. What kind of serious problem could still be under discussion at this hour?
Tobias didn’t want to discuss work matters with Elisa. After placing the lunchbox on a nearby table, he said, “Madam, I’ll go call Mr. Burns. You wait here, I’ll have the secretary come over.”
“You go ahead, don’t worry about me,” Elisa replied.
Tobias turned and left. Soon after, a female secretary came in to offer Elisa a glass of water, her attitude respectful, but her eyes couldn’t help but size Elisa up.
Just as she had thought initially: Is this the CEO’s wife? She had imagined the CEO’s wife to be something else entirely, but it turns out she looks like this-exquisite features, though dressed plainly, carrying a lunchbox. Perhaps she’s just an ordinary housewife.
“Madam, here’s your water,” the secretary said.
“Thank you.” Elisa never lingered on looking at someone for so long. She discreetly stole a glance while taking a sip of water.
One couldn’t deny that the employees in Hamish’s company were all very attractive, whether it was the receptionist or the secretary standing before her.
Attractive women easily caught another woman’s attention.
Elisa looked at the ID badge on the secretary’s neckline.
-Calista.
With a well-proportioned figure and a sexy professional outfit that accentuated her curves, the skirt’s hemline, stopping three fingers above the knee, revealed long, fair, and slender legs.
Her long, wavy hair draped over her shoulders, making her face look small, with large eyes, a straight nose, a pointed chin, a typical internet-famous face, and, as she leaned forward, Elisa could even see her prominent cleavage.
This was Hamish’s secretary?
Elisa felt a sudden discomfort. She didn’t show it on her face, but she checked the water’s temperature and then took out the medicine she needed to take.
Calista noticed the pills in Elisa’s hand and asked, “Mrs. Burns, do you have an illness?”
“A stomach ailment.” Elisa pinched the pills and ate them one by one, much like a chick pecking at grains.
Calista was somewhat surprised by Elisa’s sudden arrival. She couldn’t help but recall what Lila had said to her. Why did the CEO’s wife seem so different from what she had been told?
Where was the imposing and scheming attitude? She seemed quite gentle, and in that outfit, she looked like a typical housewife.
What was there to be wary of about a stay-at-home wife? Calista didn’t understand why Lila had warned her to be cautious of Elisa.
Calista’s thoughts were far more elevated than those of the receptionist, Beatrix. Despite her attire, she was warm and kept on smiling.
Even though Elisa had amnesia and couldn’t remember anything from the past, she had her ways of judging people, perhaps due to her previous management of the Powell Group. She could tell that Calista, the secretary, had ulterior motives.
Calista stayed with Elisa in the CEO’s office, watching as Elisa finished taking her medication.
With a warm smile on her face, she said, “Mrs. Burns, did you come today specifically to bring lunch for Mr. Burns?”
“Yes, I did,” Elisa replied.
“Mr. Burns is still in a meeting. He’s been at it since eight this morning. He often does this, and I usually have to remind him to eat every day.”
“Oh, Mrs. Burns, have you had your meal? Mr. Burns treats us well; we all have our meals provided. The staff canteen’s food is comparable to a three-star hotel’s. If you haven’t eaten, I can have a meal and some fruit sent up. We bought them this morning; I’m not sure if they’ll agree with your stomach condition, but if you’d like, I can wash some for you.”
“Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Mr. Burns’ secretary. I joined Burns Group two months ago. My name is Calista, but you can call me Xiaoyan.”
Calista’s words seemed warm and pleasing, but her eyes couldn’t hide their arrogance.
Elisa, although she had lost her memory and couldn’t recall her past, had her own way of reading people. Perhaps it was due to her previous management experience with the Powell Group. She could tell that Calista, the secretary, had ulterior motives.

Elisa looked at her with interest, “I’ve already eaten, so you don’t need to bother. But…” she paused, “you said you joined Burns Group two months ago?”
Calista tilted her chin with a hint of pride. “Yes, it’s very difficult to get a position as Mr. Burns’ secretary at Burns Group.”
Calista briefly mentioned her double degree and studying abroad.
She had expected to see a hint of surprise in Elisa’s eyes, but to her surprise, Elisa merely nodded lightly and said, “Oh.”
And that was it. All the various “humble” words that Calista had prepared were now useless.
Elisa’s calm expression gave nothing away about what she was thinking.
Calista steadied herself. In fact, it was partly thanks to Lila that she was at Burns Group. She had been at Burns Group for two months, waiting for Elisa, but she hadn’t even caught a glimpse of her.
Now that she finally met Elisa, Calista remembered what Lila had instructed her. She clenched her fists; if she didn’t succeed today, who knew when her next opportunity would come.
“Mrs. Burns, how many years have you been married to Mr. Burns?” Calista asked, seeing no one at the door.
Elisa casually replied, “Several years.”
“Are you not planning on having children?” Calista’s sudden mention of children made Elisa feel that there was more to her words than met the eye.
