“Is our relationship at the point where I have to tell you everything?” Elisa asked.
At that moment, Elisa seemed as prickly as a hedgehog.
Finn chuckled. “Now that Elisa has amnesia, perhaps she doesn’t even know what illness she has.”
He looked directly into her eyes, unabashed. “I just wanted to show concern, fearing that you might not even know what illness you have.”
Frowning, Elisa didn’t understand his meaning. Wasn’t she aware of her own body?
She felt suspicious of his words, furrowing her brows, about to speak, when suddenly her phone rang. It was Hamish calling.
In her new phone, she only had five contacts: Hamish, Tobias, Mr. Clegg, Mrs. Rugger, and Mrs. Protich.
Usually, she only communicated frequently with Hamish. She answered the call, her voice soft. “Hamish.”
“Have you taken your medicine?”
Listening to Hamish’s voice, Elisa’s earlier gloom dissipated. Her mood improved significantly, her furrowed brow relaxed, and a faint smile played on her lips.
“I have, just finished. I’ve been very good.”
“So good, I’ll reward you tonight.”
At the mention of “reward,” Elisa’s mind immediately went to last night in bed… She blushed secretly, cursing under her breath.
“It’s raining outside. Do you have an umbrella? I’ll have the driver pick you up.”
“No need. This rain won’t last long. I’ll just grab a cab and head back. Have you eaten?”
“Not yet. I just finished reviewing the contracts that needed my signature.”
Elisa glanced at the time; it was already past one. She couldn’t believe Hamish hadn’t eaten yet. She suffered greatly from stomach problems and didn’t want Hamish to suffer as she did.
“The steak at the Western restaurant I went to today was quite good, and the ambiance was nice. Let’s go together next time.”
Finn, seated across from her, heard her words and his expression turned obscure and dim. His light brown eyes gradually chilled.
On the phone, Hamish said something, and Elisa smiled sweetly, instructing him to go and eat quickly.
“Are you watching a movie alone again today and having dinner alone at a Western restaurant?” Finn asked.
“Yes…”
At that moment, the dessert arrived. Finn watched as Elisa, as if no one else was around, answered the phone. His gaze grew increasingly cold, and a vile thought formed in his mind.
“Elisa, dessert is here. Eat quickly.”
Elisa froze abruptly. She had been in the middle of replying to Hamish but hadn’t expected Finn to suddenly interrupt. She felt a chill down her spine; even over the phone, she could sense Hamish’s anger.
“Who are you with, after all?”
Elisa hurriedly explained, “Just a stranger I met today. I don’t know him well.”
Hamish took a deep breath. “Fine, I understand.”
Elisa wanted to say more, but Hamish had already hung up, indicating his level of frustration.
Elisa looked at her phone in bewilderment, feeling somewhat at a loss.
“Was that your husband?” Finn asked, smiling meaningfully at her, his tone laced with ambiguity.
Now Elisa was certain that Finn’s interruption had been deliberate! She had always heard of “green tea,” but she hadn’t expected to encounter a male one today.
“If your husband truly loves you, he wouldn’t get angry over such trivial matters,” Finn said, handing the dessert to Elisa.
“Someone who loves you would show you respect, would trust you, and you would encounter all sorts of people and make friends. Shouldn’t there be at least this much trust between husband and wife?”
Elisa’s expression soured. Finn’s words were clearly meant to sow discord, but she couldn’t deny that they were tactful and made sense.
With her current amnesia, she longed to make new friends. Plus, the movie she had seen that morning had a significant impact. She didn’t want to become the woman in the movie, with nothing but love.
She trusted Hamish, and Hamish should trust her. There should at least be this much respect between husband and wife.
“We watched a movie together today and had lunch here. It’s not an overstatement to say we’re friends. As a friend, I just want to remind you that you deserve a loving partner to cherish you.”
