Elisa was feeling bored at home, so she went to the market with Mrs. Rugger to buy groceries. As they passed by a jewelry store, she glanced at the rings displayed in the glass cabinet.
She touched her ring finger. Did she and Hamish not have a wedding ring?
As Elisa approached, a salesperson immediately came over to introduce the rings. There were diamond rings worth hundreds of thousands and ordinary rings worth thousands.
She had Hamish’s black card with her, which she had never used before. Considering Hamish’s net worth, there should be tens of millions on the card for her.
Elisa never thought about using Hamish’s card, so she was just browsing at the mall. Coincidentally, as they walked past the bracelet counter, Mrs. Rugger came out. Seeing Elisa staring at them, she thought Elisa liked them.
Mrs. Rugger didn’t say anything, she secretly took a photo and sent it to Hamish.
After sending the photo, Mrs. Rugger casually asked, “Mrs. Burns, if you like it, just buy it.”
“I won’t buy it,” Elisa turned around. “Have you finished buying the groceries?”
“Yes, we are ready to go back. Mrs. Burns, do you want to keep browsing?”
“Then you go back first. I plan to wander around. I won’t come back for lunch.”
“But your medication…”
Before Mrs. Rugger could finish speaking, she saw Elisa open her bag and take out a paper package containing all her medication.
“Don’t worry, I have my medication. If you and Hamish are really concerned, I will give him a call.”
In front of Mrs. Rugger, Elisa called Hamish. After a lot of persuasion, Hamish finally agreed.
Chiwood was not Bankshire. Hamish trusted her to go out. He couldn’t keep her locked up all the time, watching her like a prison guard.
“He agreed. Mrs. Rugger, you can go back.”
After they left, Elisa aimlessly wandered around the mall. There were eight floors in total. Elisa had originally wanted to see if there was anything she needed, but as she wandered, she realized that she lacked nothing at home. Whether it was clothes, jewelry, or skincare products, Hamish had prepared everything for her.
The eighth floor housed the cinema. Elisa had amnesia, and she didn’t know if she had ever been to a movie theater before.
But looking at the posters outside, she was filled with curiosity. It was Wednesday, and quietly speaking, there shouldn’t be many people at the movies on a weekday.
However, the cinema was bustling at the moment, with crowds of people, men and women, flocking together. Elisa glanced at the movie tickets they held and decided to buy one and join the queue.
The cinema was nearly full, with almost no empty seats. When Elisa went to buy her ticket, only the corner seats were available.
There were hardly any people in the front row. Being too close to the screen would require constantly looking up, which wasn’t good for the viewing experience.
The best seats were in the middle, but unfortunately, they were almost all taken. Most of the moviegoers were couples, and there was an empty seat in the middle. Elisa didn’t want to intrude as a third wheel, and besides, she wasn’t used to being so close to strangers.
In the end, she chose a seat in the back corner where there was no one around. It was quite nice.
Elisa took her ticket and found her seat. When she chose it, there was no one around, but after the movie started, a man came and sat next to her.
The cinema was dimly lit. Elisa glanced at the man, but she couldn’t see clearly. However, from the side profile, he seemed to have good features.
Yet, no matter how good-looking he was, he was immune in her eyes. Next to her was Hamish, and in terms of appearance, there was no one who could compare to him.
Thinking of her husband, Elisa suddenly felt a surge of pride.
Elisa couldn’t keep staring at the man next to her. As the movie began, she earnestly focused on the big screen. Just ten minutes into the film, a cell phone rang.
Elisa subconsciously touched her pocket and then saw the man next to her answering the call and speaking softly.
His voice brought a strong sense of familiarity to Elisa, as if she had heard it somewhere before.
Elisa tried to focus on the movie, but she found it hard to concentrate.
It was a romantic art film. The story had a slow pace, starting off light and humorous, then becoming increasingly oppressive. The woman in the movie was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The man who had promised to be with her for a lifetime turned and married someone else.
The woman forgot many things, but shecould only remember that man.
In the end, the woman tore up the love letters she had written to him, folded them into paper boats, and threw them into the river before jumping in herself without hesitation.
The movie was heavy, a stark contrast to its lighthearted beginning. A sense of unstoppable despair emanated from the screen. Elisa sat there, watching foolishly. She pressed her hand to her chest, feeling occasional pangs of pain.
In front of Elisa, there was a young couple. The girl couldn’t help but cry, covering her mouth. She kept saying, “Poor thing.”
Her boyfriend comforted her in a low voice, awkwardly wiping her tears with tissues.
