Chapter 223: Long Time No See, Sister-in-law

Book:Mr. Burns Is Killing His Wife Published:2024-6-4

Elisa talked about wanting to go somewhere for a stroll, but she didn’t dare to go out without Hamish by her side. After all, with her memory loss, she was like a fool now and going out might cause trouble, making Hamish worry.
With nothing to do, Elisa could only read, occasionally texting Hamish to ask what he was doing. Seeing no reply, she knew he must be very busy. Elisa had grown accustomed to Hamish’s company; now that he was absent, she always felt like something was missing, making their already large villa feel even emptier.
At ten fifty in the morning, Mrs. Rugger began preparing lunch and asked Elisa what she would like to eat. Elisa thought for a while. She wanted to eat things she couldn’t have, and finding something she liked among the foods she didn’t care for much was too difficult. “Just make whatever. I have a stomachache and need to take medicine, so I won’t be able to eat much,” she said.
As soon as Elisa finished speaking, the sound of an engine outside made her pause. “Has Hamish come back?” she asked with a hopeful expression. She got up and ran to the door. Upon reaching it, she first saw a taxi. At that moment, she knew the person inside wasn’t Hamish. Suddenly losing all interest, as she was about to turn around, the taxi door opened, and a woman in her mid-twenties stepped out, exquisitely beautiful and petite, despite the slightly chilly March weather, she wore a red dress.
Approaching, Elisa looked her up and down. Finally, her gaze rested on the woman’s face. Judging from her makeup, she seemed to be very particular about her appearance. Elisa remained inside the house and couldn’t hear the conversation between the butler and the visitor, who were standing some distance away.
When the butler turned and saw Elisa inside the house, he said, “Mrs. Burns, the person outside is called Lila, Mr. Burns’s sister. She says she’s here to see you. Would you like to meet her?”
Since the person had already arrived at the door, there was no reason not to meet her. However, what Elisa didn’t expect was that Hamish’s younger sister was quite attractive.
She nodded, “Bring her in,” and instructed Mrs. Rugger to prepare two cups of fruit tea.
Following the butler, Lila entered the villa, her eyes sweeping around, harboring a hint of jealousy deep within. Each time, Elisa lived the best life, with so many people serving her. Why did some people seem to be born as young ladies? They could get whatever they wanted, and so many people liked them.
Elisa stood still, watching Lila approach in high heels. “Hello,” she said woodenly.
Lila looked at Elisa, furrowing her brows slightly. The Elisa who had lost her memory had changed so much-less of that sharpness, more of a sense of vulnerability, making others unable to resist the urge to take advantage of her.
“Long time no see, sister-in-law,” she said, smiling with narrowed eyes.
Elisa looked at her in astonishment. “Um, have we met before?”
“Of course, we’ve met. You are my sister-in-law. We’ve definitely met before. I heard from Hamish that you lost your memory, so it’s normal not to remember,” Lila replied.
“I’m sorry,” Elisa murmured.
Lowering her head, Lila bent to take off her shoes, her emotions undergoing various changes. The person who had refused to show weakness even when hit was now apologizing.
Lila kicked her heels off to the side. “Are there slippers for me?”
“Yes,” Elisa quickly opened the shoe cabinet, where there were quite a few pairs of slippers for guests.
Elisa found a pair of pink slippers and was about to take them out when Lila suddenly said, “No need to get them. I’ll just wear Hamish’s. After all, I won’t be staying long; I’ll be leaving soon,” she said, already putting on Hamish’s slippers.
Elisa felt a sudden discomfort, an inexplicable emotion. It was like when she was a child and her beloved stuffed toy was casually given away by her family.
