Elisa’s collarbone was exceptionally beautiful. The man clearly enjoyed destroying anything beautiful, as he forcefully pierced her collarbone with a sharp tool. Elisa writhed in excruciating pain on the wooden board.
She had been begging the man to kill her, but the more she pleaded for mercy, the more ferocious he became. The anesthesia injected into her mouth made her tremble, rendering her unable to produce any sound, let alone bite off her tongue.
He tortured her to the point where her sanity was barely intact. The lie detector attached to her head served no purpose; the man seemed enthralled, as if he had lost himself, until one of his henchmen reminded him.
He regained composure and narrowed his gaze. “Elisa, answer my questions properly. If I am satisfied, I will spare you.” Elisa half-closed her eyes, tears clinging to her eyelashes, devoid of any light.
The man took the map handed to him by his subordinate. “Which direction did Hamish move the mine underground on South Water Island?” Elisa’s body was exhausted to the extreme. She longed to close her eyes and sleep, but every time she did, her body screamed in pain. She knew it was the effect of the liquid injected into her.
Upon hearing the mention of “South Water Island,” Elisa’s frozen face showed a slight reaction. South Water Island had a mine? Why didn’t she know about it? So, Hamish bought South Water Island because of the valuable minerals underground, and the initial plan to build an amusement park under her name was just a diversion to shift everyone’s attention?
Elisa looked up at the places that appeared on the map in the man’s hand and shook her head. Before she could say anything, the lie detector on her head suddenly made a sound.
The man squinted, his eyes sharp like a hawk’s, glaring at her. “Are you still deceiving me even at this crucial moment?”
Elisa’s face was already pale, and the recent torment had made her bluish. Her lips had a bluish-purple hue, and she tried to say that she was not lying, but the medication on her tongue had not worn off, so she couldn’t make a sound.
She could only shake her head repeatedly, trying to convey to the man in front of her, wearing a devil’s mask, that she was not lying, that she genuinely didn’t know. But the more she showed this reaction, the louder the lie detector beeped, and the man simply didn’t believe her.
“I have heard that you have deep feelings for Hamish, Elisa. I didn’t expect it to be true. Even in this state of inhuman torture, you are still willing to protect his secrets.”
The man leisurely took out another syringe from the operating table, and the eerie red liquid inside sent shivers down anyone’s spine just by looking at it.
“Let me tell you the truth. I brought you here for two purposes: South Water Island and you.”
“You say Hamish cares more about Lila, but I don’t think so. Honestly, in all the time I’ve known him, I have never seen him so obsessed and focused on someone. But anyone who stays by his side doesn’t end up well.”
Initially, it seemed that Hamish and Elisa’s relationship could be described as husband and wife, or rather, pet and owner. After spending time together, the owner couldn’t help but fall in love with the pet. However, feeling that the pet was unworthy of his love, the owner constantly belittled her. It was only when the pet got angry, bit him, and was on the verge of death that he realized his mistake, but unfortunately, it was too late.
Hamish had his own way of thinking and never considered the feelings of others. To put it bluntly, he was selfish, but he was also afraid. Hamish’s parents died during the turmoil fifteen years ago, leaving only Old Burns and Hamish in the Burns family. He didn’t dare to get too close to anyone. In his living environment, any unnecessary emotions became a threat to him.
Elisa thought Hamish loved Lila, but he didn’t. His heart had turned into a stone fifteen years ago, and no one could warm it up. The additional emotions he had for Lila were only because of the scene when he was saved from drowning six years ago, deeply etched into his memory. But Elisa was an exception, perhaps even he himself didn’t know why.
The man paused and said softly, “Elisa, have you ever considered that Hamish used you as a means to protect Lila? To create the illusion that he cares about Lila. Of course, this is just his assumption. Hamish is meticulous, and no one can guess his true thoughts. Once he cuts off his emotions, he becomes a formidable opponent.”
Elisa’s consciousness faded, and her ears rang with a deafening sound, making it difficult to hear anything clearly. However, she could still perceive the pain on her skin. She could feel the man’s hand caressing her neck, followed by a sharp needle piercing her skin.
Compared to the previous agony and bone-piercing pain, this sensation seemed mild. But as soon as the needle pierced her neck, a dull ache erupted in her brain, as if a sponge inside her head was expanding, hardening, and squeezing her brain matter until it cracked.
This torment assaulted her consciousness from the outside in, reaching its peak within seconds, surpassing the limits of what Elisa could bear. She opened her mouth, but the sound that escaped was hoarse and cracked. Countless bloodshot veins appeared in her eyes as she clenched the iron chains binding her hands, her fingertips white as she desperately held on. Even her toes curled in pain. Ignoring the sharp instrument embedded in her collarbone, she let out a howl.
“No…,” she finally managed to produce a sound, but it was torn from her by the agony.
The man clapped his hands together. “Tell me, where did he transfer the minerals? Chiwood or Brubert?”
Elisa’s pupils trembled, and tears mixed with blood rolled down her cheeks. Despite the excruciating pain, her consciousness remained remarkably clear.
“Kill me… I truly… don’t… know. I’m not… lying…”
Every time she opened her mouth to answer the man’s questions, the lie detector on her head reacted, confirming his belief that she was evading the truth.
His face behind the devil’s mask changed repeatedly. He hadn’t expected this woman to have such unwavering determination, even in her current state. She still refused to speak.
A sinister smile crept onto his face. “Fascinating. So fascinating. This is more interesting than any life I’ve played with before. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen someone so stubborn.”
“Inject her with the third syringe.”
His subordinates behind him became stiff when they heard that they had to inject more and their actions would be affected. This kind of drug that destroys human rationality, even if it’s a flexible woman like her, they might not be able to withstand two doses, let alone five.
Injecting five doses now, this could accidentally destroy the memory and turn the brain into a fool.
The needle tip pierced into the back of Elisa’s neck again, causing her body to convulse in pain. It wasn’t the pain of flesh tearing, but rather as if a force was tightly squeezing her brain, splitting open her skull.
Her consciousness now floated like driftwood in the ocean. This insane stabbing pain caused her blood and qi to surge within her, and she spat out a mouthful of blood, which flowed down the iron chain around her neck, staining her body.
So cold… so painful… Hamish, didn’t you promise to protect me? Didn’t you say you would come to save me? Why haven’t you come? Why?
I hate you, I hate you. Why did you use me?
If Hamish hadn’t put South Water Island under her name and made her responsible for it, maybe things wouldn’t have turned out like this today.
Elisa moved her lips, but her voice was too weak to be heard clearly. Fortunately, the man understood lip reading and faintly saw the words “Chiwood.” Elisa’s consciousness was unclear, so the words she spoke couldn’t be fully trusted.
He didn’t have much time left. Hamish must have found Lila by now, and it wouldn’t be long before they traced him.
He thought that a little intimidation would make the woman spill everything, but her mouth remained stubbornly shut.
Originally, he intended to kill her, but now he hesitated a bit. After all, this was the first time someone had endured this long under his control. Quite tough!
Unfortunately, no matter how strong her spirit was, she would only be tortured more miserably.
He frequently interrogated people, coupled with the sadistic factor within him. He knew various methods, had extensive research, knew which parts of the human body caused pain but were not fatal, and knew how to make someone regain consciousness.
The man patted the lie detector on Elisa’s head. “Does this thing work? It shouldn’t be broken, right? It was working fine when I interrogated Lila. Elisa must not be telling the truth.”
After ten minutes, Elisa, who had just passed out, was awakened again by the man. She had never felt time passing so slowly before, as if she was trapped in an inescapable nightmare.
Elisa hung her head, her throat torn and burning with pain.
“You said you were in Chiwood earlier.”
Chiwood… Elisa tugged at the corner of her mouth and hoarsely said without sound, “If you think it’s Chiwood, then it’s Chiwood.”
The lie detector’s response was not as strong this time. The man squinted slightly; this woman was still not being honest. Since he couldn’t get the answer he wanted, he would play with her and take care of the fool they had captured a couple of days ago at the same time.
