Hamish felt his whole body stiffen, as if an invisible hand was tightening around his throat, suffocating him. Before his brain could react, his body had already rushed forward.
Elisa’s weakened body collapsed on the cold floor tiles, startling the people around her, who cried out in shock.
“Someone crashed into the wall! Someone’s dead!”
Elisa still had breath in her, perhaps because the impact was not strong enough. There was only a superficial wound on her forehead. She had been injured in an underground casino not long ago, and now the newly formed scar had been torn open, causing blood to flow.
Elisa felt an excruciating headache, accompanied by dizziness and a sense of nausea after the impact. Her vision blurred, and her ears were ringing.
She hadn’t even fainted, so how could she possibly die? Elisa thought in despair. She wished a knife would materialize in her hand so that she could plunge it into her heart.
Blood trickled from her forehead onto her eyelids, causing a stinging sensation in her eyes. Her ring, loosened from her ring finger, rolled to the ground, emitting a cold, gleaming light.
“Hamish, is it only when I’m dead… that you’ll be satisfied?” Elisa trembled, her voice hoarse.
Hamish’s heart suddenly jolted. Finally, he realized that Elisa’s harsh words from before were not just empty threats; she was playing for real!
Hamish picked her up and said coldly, “Elisa, if you die, I’ll dig up your parents’ graves. Ivan’s hand is useless, right? Then I’ll cut off his legs and leave him unable to take care of himself. I’ll curse your heartless sister in bed, as well as the Bakers. I won’t spare them either! You were good to Micah, right? I’ll make him taste the same fate of losing everything, just like you!”
Hamish’s vicious words pierced Elisa’s heart like a blunt knife, extracting blood and flesh, causing her soul to tremble in pain.
Elisa no longer had the strength to resist him. She truly wanted to die. If she died, she wouldn’t have to see anything anymore. What did it matter to those who were still alive?
The ring left on the ground, regardless of its value, would eventually become loose if it didn’t fit properly from the beginning, even if it was replaced with another ring. Over time, it would slip off the finger.
Elisa and Hamish’s divorce case had caused a sensation, even before it was over. It had become a hot topic, with major reporters rushing to report on it.
Outside, bodyguards held back reporters and onlookers. Hamish carried Elisa out, her weak body lying in his arms. There was no movement in her chest, but if it weren’t for the faint sound of her breathing, one would have thought she was dead.
The onlookers pointed and whispered about Elisa, their expressions filled with disdain.
“I just heard that Elisa has schizophrenia and delusions of persecution.”
“Is she having an episode now?”
“She used to be a good woman. Who would have thought she would have a mental illness? She looks pitiful.”
“What’s so pitiful about her? Don’t you know how she falsely accused her husband of infidelity and domestic violence, claiming he pushed her down the stairs and caused her miscarriage? But in reality, she intentionally fell and killed the child in her womb.”
“A tiger doesn’t eat its cubs. How could she be so heartless?”
“That’s right. So Mr. Burns, out of anger, said something harsh. As a result, she secretly recorded it and presented it as evidence of domestic violence in court. And even worse, she secretly transferred Mr. Burns’ assets to the Baker family, worth 800 million… ”
“Is she afraid of being held responsible for the asset transfer, so she decided to divorce?”
“Who knows? I think she had planned it all along. In my opinion, Elisa doesn’t know how to appreciate the good. Look at how well Mr. Burns treated her. He even gave her a 500 million island to build an amusement park. This woman is just never satisfied.”
“Even so, Mr. Burns didn’t want to divorce her. It seems he really likes her. How could a good man like him be so blind?”
“Look at her, she’s clearly mentally ill. Such a person should be locked up in a mental hospital.”
Every time, Elisa endured all kinds of insults and scorn, while Hamish received everyone’s sympathy.
No one stood by Elisa’s side, not even a single word of support or defense.
They didn’t care about the truth of the matter. They only cared about the facts they had determined for themselves.
As her emotions gradually settled, itseemed as if Elisa was alone in her surroundings. The warmth within her slowly dissipated, until what she saw with her eyes became increasingly blurry, darker, and she could no longer make out the food in front of her…
All her strength drained from her body, and she closed her eyes, leaning against the man she now hated the most.
“Elisa, listen to me. If you’re going to die, you’ll die on my bed!”
