The five-day preparation period quickly passed, and on the day of the trial, the news of Elisa divorcing Hamish caused a great uproar online, creating a lot of commotion.
Reporters had already gotten wind of the news and were waiting outside, occupying good positions even before the start of the trial.
The autumn weather had turned cold, and Hamish was only wearing a shirt with the top two buttons undone, revealing his collarbone.
Hamish had been waiting in the courtroom until it was almost time for the trial to begin when Elisa and her lawyer entered slowly.
Elisa’s body remained thin, weak, and sickly as ever. Her face was pale, as if she had just recovered from a serious illness. In this solemn courtroom, she appeared to be the weaker party at first glance.
Hamish was the first to notice Elisa, but then his gaze slowly shifted to the man beside her. His eyes turned cold, followed by a contemptuous snort from his throat.
Standing beside Elisa, Mr. Riley inexplicably felt a chill.
Sensing the cold gaze from this direction, Elisa turned her head slightly. Her expression was worn-out, with dark circles under her eyes. Hamish couldn’t help but stare for a while.
After seeing Hamish, Elisa maintained her composure and turned her face away.
Mr. Riley, standing next to her, noticed that something was off with her expression and thought she was nervous. He reassured her, “Don’t be nervous.”
Elisa didn’t say anything but forced a faint smile. It was impossible not to be nervous. She had just seen the confident smile on Hamish’s face a moment ago.
Hamish never took on a lawsuit unless he was certain of winning. Since he had come here and had that expression on his face, it was evident that he had come prepared.
Both parties had arrived, and after the judge verified their identities, he smoothly allowed Elisa to state her lawsuit request.
Elisa stood up, her hand trembling slightly as she held the complaint. It was evident how nervous she was at this moment.
Elisa recited her lawsuit request, which roughly stated that Hamish had cheated on her and subjected her to domestic violence. She concluded with a statement, “I feel that the bond between the plaintiff and the defendant has been irreparably broken. I request the dissolution of the marriage.”
Elisa’s voice sounded calm, but upon closer listening, one could hear the tremor in her voice.
Hamish supported his head and watched Elisa, who was standing stiff and straight. There was a sinister smile on his face. When he heard Elisa utter the words “irreparably broken,” he rubbed the ring box under his hand.
Hamish’s expression was profound, making it difficult for others to understand his thoughts. Only Tobias, who knew him well, understood that he was angry now.
The judge asked Hamish to respond, and after a slight pause, Hamish moved his lips and softly said, “I disagree.”
He stared at Elisa in silence, wanting to observe her current expression. However, Elisa kept her head down all the while, tightly clenching her hand on the table.
Even from several meters away, he could still see Elisa’s trembling shoulders. Hamish let out a soft sigh and glanced at Mr. Hunter by his side; the real drama was just beginning.
Mr. Hunter said, “We reject the claims of infidelity and domestic violence. Can the plaintiff provide evidence?”
Mr. Riley replied, “Yes.”
Hamish’s face stiffened for a moment as he watched the opposing lawyer take out a USB drive from his briefcase and insert it into the computer. The video was then projected onto a large screen, visible to everyone present.
Elisa pointed at the screen and said, “This is the evidence of his infidelity and domestic violence. The location of the video is a hospital, three months ago. Hamish threw me down from the second floor, causing me to miscarry. After I underwent a dilation and curettage surgery, he said these words in front of me with his affair partner present, just as shown in the video.”
In the video, due to the angle, Hamish’s face was not clear, but as Elisa finished speaking, his voice could be heard.
“Elisa, did you really think I couldn’t do anything to you? If I want you to have a child, there are many ways. Since you love to make trouble so much, I might as well break your legs and lock you in bed. Then, you can only watch helplessly as your belly grows bigger and the children are born, one by one.”
A short video clip with a few sentences shocked everyone present, and their gaze towards Hamish changed.
