Elisa had almost no money left in her hands. Hattie asked her, “Do you want to see him after the surgery?”
“I’d better not. Ivan is probably the last person he wants to see right now.
Right after the surgery, people are at their weakest, and she doesn’t want to stimulate him.
“Help me arrange a careful caregiver for him. As for the medical expenses, if he has money, I won’t provide it. Ivan received ten million from Lukas last week, so he shouldn’t have spent it all.
“If he doesn’t have money, call me.”
Hattie nodded and asked with concern, “Are you calm now?”
“Yes, thank you, Hattie. Without Hattie, she would probably have fallen into a dead end again and couldn’t get out.”
Elisa glanced at her medical examination report and put it back in the file bag. “Put this here for now. I’ll go back first.”
“Rest well. The trial will begin the day after tomorrow. Be mentally prepared so that Hamish, that scumbag, won’t underestimate you.”
Elisa carried a bag of medicine. Instead of going back immediately, she went to the end of the corridor where the window was wide open. She stood by the window and looked at the tall buildings.
On the fifth floor of the hospital, the autumn wind carried a noticeable chill, gently brushing against her skin. Her pores seemed to tighten, and Elisa felt a tingling sensation on her scalp. A layer of goosebumps rose on her body, instantly making her more alert.
She took out her phone from her bag and called Hamish.
She had Hamish’s phone number memorized by heart and didn’t need to search for it. She just entered four numbers on the dialing screen, and his number popped up.
Looking at the familiar number, Elisa pressed her lips tightly and hesitated for a moment before dialing.
The call rang, and after five waiting tones, the other side answered slowly.
“The trial will begin the day after tomorrow. You’re calling me at this time. If it’s to withdraw the lawsuit, I’ll pretend nothing happened and treat you well again.” Hamish’s tone on the phone was as confident as ever.
“Like before?” Elisa subconsciously gripped her phone and sarcastically asked, “Slapping me, handcuffing me on the balcony, or throwing me down the stairs to make me miscarry? Or maybe being your lover at night and a servant cooking for you during the day?”
Hamish was momentarily speechless. After a long silence, he finally said, “Elisa, I truly consider you my wife. Don’t be ungrateful.”
“Then let Lila be your wife. I don’t care.” Elisa laughed in anger, her eyes filled with mockery. She suppressed her anger and asked, “Did you cut Ivan’s hand?”
Hamish didn’t respond, but Elisa took it as his admission. She had a scale in her heart. Whenever something unfortunate happened to someone around her, the balance tilted towards Hamish, as if confirming his guilt and automatically giving up any possibility of defending him.
“Hamish, I underestimated your limits. You went to any lengths to force me, but your plan backfired. I’ve said it before, Ivan and I have nothing to do with each other. Even if you took his life, I wouldn’t bat an eye.” Elisa hung up the phone and stared at the call duration on the screen. “I’m getting a divorce!”
After saying that, she ended the call, adjusted her expression, and turned back to the elevator. The elevator doors were reflective, and Elisa looked at her pale face in the mirror. She didn’t know if it was because of the wind or the emotional rollercoaster she had just experienced, but her head began to ache.
…
Hamish sat on the bar owner’s chair at the counter, his face unusually gloomy. A burning anger surged up in him, and he casually threw his phone on the table, creating a loud noise.
Tobias entered the CEO’s office with some documents and heard a sentence from inside.
“Utter nonsense, foolish coward!”
Tobias was startled and instinctively felt that Hamish was in a bad mood and he should avoid him for now.
Just as he was about to quietly leave, pretending that nothing had happened, he suddenly heard Hamish’s voice from behind him.
“Bring me the documents.”
Tobias approached and placed the document files on the bar counter. He was unsure whether to leave or stay.
Hamish’s face still looked terrible. He flipped through a few pages of the documents, becoming more and more dissatisfied, and angrily threw them on the ground. “Have them redo it!”
These past few days, Hamish had been in a terrible mood, and everyone in the company was crying and complaining.
“Yes, I’llarrange it right away.” Tobias picked up the scattered papers from the ground. He was about to leave when Hamish suddenly stopped him.
“Do you know that Elisa’s brother’s hand is broken?”
Tobias was stunned. “Broken? How did it happen?”
“Just now, Elisa called me and accused me of cutting her brother’s hand.” Hamish’s mood had worsened, and it turned out that he was being falsely accused by Elisa.
But it’s not surprising that she falsely accused you. Haven’t you done those things and said those words? Have you never heard the story of the boy who cried wolf?
“It’s because you used to deceive and mistreat others without any distinction.” Tobias muttered to himself.
Hamish’s face turned cold as he heard that. “Deceive and mistreat others without any distinction? You’re quite audacious.”
