“Hamish, I can’t guarantee you anything, but as long as Baker Group collaborates with us, I can ensure that the costs are minimized and the profits are maximized! Baker Group has been working with Powell Group for many years, and I know their quality,” Elisa looked at him, speaking with a deliberate and serious tone, every word carefully chosen, and she truly… humble.
“An increase in a few percentage points of profit?”
“Ten percent on top of the existing base. This profit is quite high, definitely a win-win,” Elisa nodded, appearing submissive.
Hamish was a person who wouldn’t easily change his decisions. Elisa had no confidence in her heart and was even worried that all her efforts would be in vain if he was in a bad mood.
Hamish glanced at the detailed notes in her hand. He couldn’t afford to be distracted while driving, so he didn’t take them.
“Go back and take a look. Also, I need a complete report on Baker Group,” Hamish said.
Elisa was taken aback, “You agreed?”
Hamish raised an eyebrow, “When did I say that?”
Elisa lowered her shoulders, looking worried and crestfallen, like a deflated balloon. She thought that Hamish wouldn’t easily agree, but then he said the next sentence.
“I still need to consider whether what you said is true. As long as Baker Group presents a decent plan, I will agree to their participation.”
Elisa smiled, “I understand.”
In a businesslike manner, Hamish only cared about the results, whether Baker Group had the ability.
Elisa neatly put the documents in her bag and picked up the porridge next to her to continue drinking.
“Don’t drink it if it’s cold,” Hamish controlled the steering wheel while glancing at her.
Only during meals did Elisa behave obediently, like a hamster with her cheeks bulging. Her originally cool face now had a touch of innocence.
“It’s not cold,” Elisa continued drinking. She finished the whole cup of porridge halfway and couldn’t control a burp.
The soft burp sounded particularly clear in the quiet car. Elisa felt embarrassed and shifted her gaze to the window.
Hamish curved his lips.
Elisa was already full and planned to go home and work in her study. Ariella brought the food to the living room, where only Hamish was present.
“Mr. Burns, where is Mrs.?” Ariella mostly referred to Elisa as “Mrs.” in front of Hamish.
“She’s busy with work, no need to call her. She has already eaten,” Hamish replied.
Ariella was skilled in cooking. She had specifically found a chef to learn from in the past few days, and her culinary skills had improved by leaps and bounds.
After eating a few bites of the delicious side dishes, Hamish said, “Heat up the porridge. She might get hungry in the middle of the night.”
Ariella agreed.
Elisa placed the documents and a USB drive on the bed in the bedroom. As soon as Hamish entered, he noticed them.
He picked up the USB drive and carefully examined it. He had only glanced at it briefly in the car, but now he realized how detailed it was. Elisa was indeed outstanding in the business world, and her abilities were evident.
Previously, Hamish had only heard about it, and this time he finally witnessed the exceptional nature of this woman.
Hamish inserted the USB drive into the computer’s mainframe. It contained a rough report graph and an analysis of the collaboration with Baker Group.
After finishing reading the documents, it was already nine o’clock. Elisa hadn’t returned yet. Hamish took a shower and came out of the bedroom. The study wasn’t far away, and he could see that it was still lit.
He suddenly regretted letting Elisa work at Burns Group. This endless overtime left no spare time for him to spend with her.
Hamish brought a small bowl of porridge to the study. He knocked on the study door.
Elisa was fully engrossed in her work, reaching a state of complete absorption. She had to give her utmost effort in everything she did, unlike Hamish. This caused her to be tense, and she was afraid that everything she had worked hard for would be undone if he was in a bad mood.
Hamish knocked on the door, but there was no response. After a three-second pause, he pushed the door open directly.
Elisa’s hand was still on the keyboard, and her gaze shifted towards him. She wore blue light glasses when working to protect her eyes.
The silver frames made her already cold eyes appear even more serious.
Hamish had never seen Elisa like this before and found it quite rare.
He placed the porridge in front of her and spoke in a commanding tone, “Finish the porridge, wash up, and go to bed.”
Elisa glanced coldly and said, “I’m not hungry. I’ll wash up after I finish my work. You go to sleep first.”
She didn’t have the audacity to think that Hamish would wait for her to go to bed together. She refocused her attention on the computer, her slender fingers swiftly typing on the keyboard.
Elisa had the most beautiful hands he had ever seen on a woman, long and with a hint of pale pink at the fingertips. Such hands were naturally suited for playing musical instruments, and he remembered that she could play the violin.
Elisa quickly immersed herself in her work, completely absorbed in front of the computer screen.
Hamish was also someone who had worked overtime before. He knew that when someone was engrossed in their work, a few hours could quickly turn into several. Work was never-ending.
Furrowing his brow, Hamish forcefully tapped the table and spoke seriously, “Put it down. Don’t make me repeat myself.”
Elisa was pinned to her chair, and Hamish’s authoritative tone had a certain deterrent effect on her. After a moment of hesitation, she decisively saved her work with a mouse click, shut down the computer, and obediently held the porridge.
When she wasn’t eating, she didn’t feel hungry, but now she suddenly felt a pang of hunger. The bowl of porridge filled her about sixty percent, and she would need to take her medication later.
“That’s enough,” Hamish nodded in satisfaction. He affectionately patted her head as a reward, an intimate gesture, but Elisa always felt like he was treating her like a dog, leaving her without any sense of self-esteem.
Elisa tilted her head to avoid him and got up, walking two laps in the corridor. After half an hour of eating, she would take her medication, wash up, and by the time she finished her chores, it was already half past ten.
She yawned, and Hamish lay on the bed with a laptop on his legs, currently having a serious discussion with Tobias.
When he saw Elisa approaching, he closed the laptop, but she still caught a glimpse of it.
“How many years has it been with Tobias?” Elisa asked.
“It’s been seven years.”
Calculating the time, it meant that Tobias had been with Hamish since he became the president of Burns Group.
“He has been with you for so many years and is still just an assistant. You must be quite stingy,” Elisa’s tone was indifferent, but if you listened carefully, there was a hint of mockery.
“The work of an assistant is not simple, and Tobias’s salary is quite generous.”
The word “generous” was used very cleverly. Just thinking about it, if the treatment was low, Tobias would have left long ago.
Tobias had outstanding abilities. Being able to work beside someone like Hamish for seven years meant that he must have some capabilities to endure.
Elisa lifted the covers and got into bed, keeping some distance from Hamish. Looking at his angular profile, she asked, “He has been with you for so many years, are you willing to let him work with me now?”
The question sounded strange, and Hamish furrowed his brow. His tone was neither light nor heavy, “Don’t think I don’t know what you’re thinking. But you don’t need to worry. I let him work with you not to keep an eye on you. He is capable of handling complicated matters, so you can delegate them to him, and he will handle them well.”
