Chapter 120: Mental Prisoner

Book:Mr. Burns Is Killing His Wife Published:2024-6-4

After staying in the hospital for almost a month, Elisa returned home to find dust covering every corner of the villa.
Hamish was in a hurry to bring Elisa back home but forgot that the house was still not ready for occupancy. He quickly called a cleaning company and arranged for three cleaners to come and tidy up.
Elisa went upstairs and found her phone under the bed. She plugged it in to charge and turned it on. As soon as the phone connected to the signal, it made a series of “ding-ding-ding” notification sounds.
There were 99+ missed calls and 99+ unread messages.
She clicked on them one by one. There were only three repeated calls, one from the orphanage director, another from Evangeline, and the majority were from an unknown number.
The same applied to the messages. As she looked through them, she already knew who they were from.
Autumn.
She had promised him last month that she would visit the orphanage, but before she could go, Hamish threw her downstairs and she ended up in the hospital.
If she hadn’t seen these messages and missed calls, she would probably have forgotten about Autumn.
Elisa opened the messages and read them one by one.
“You said you would come and see me. Why haven’t you come or answered my calls?”
“Why is your phone turned off? Did something happen to you?”
“Ellie, please reply to my messages quickly.”
Just by reading these messages, Elisa could imagine how nervous Autumn, that big fool, must have been while waiting for her reply.
After reading the messages, Elisa cleared them to be safe. She didn’t think much of these messages, but she knew Hamish wouldn’t see it the same way as her.
It’s better to avoid unnecessary trouble. Elisa sent a message to Autumn, telling him that she was fine and would go to the orphanage tomorrow.
Afraid that Autumn might suddenly call her, Elisa warned him in the message that if he called or messaged her, she wouldn’t go.
The other party quickly replied with a “Okay,” indicating that he had been anxiously waiting for her message.
Elisa shook her head helplessly. After deleting the messages, she casually placed her phone on the bedside table to charge.
The cleaners had already arrived, and although the villa was not large, they swiftly cleaned the rooms within half a day.
Hamish opened the refrigerator and found that the vegetables had gone bad and the meat wasn’t fresh anymore. He called Tobias and asked him to buy some fresh ingredients from the supermarket.
Since the vegetables hadn’t arrived, they had to settle for takeout for lunch.
“I’m going to the orphanage tomorrow,” Elisa said directly at the dining table.
Hamish served her a bowl of food and asked casually, “What are you going to do at the orphanage?”
“It was my birthday last month, and they gave me a birthday gift that I haven’t picked up yet. I also left my car there.”
As Elisa mentioned this, he remembered, “Why did you leave your car there?”
“I wasn’t feeling well that day, so I didn’t drive myself.”
“You don’t have to go there. I’ll ask Tobias to bring your car back.” Hamish scooped a bowl of soup and placed it in front of Elisa, his movements skilled. “Have the soup first.”
“I want to get it myself.”
“Finish your meal first.”
Hamish’s attitude clearly indicated that he was just appeasing her. Elisa’s expression immediately fell. “Do you still want to restrict my freedom?”
“I don’t want to restrict your freedom. You just got out of the hospital, and your body is still weak. The orphanage is far from here. If something happens to you…” Hamish noticed that Elisa didn’t look too well and took a deep breath, compromising first. “If you want to go, I’ll accompany you.”
Hamish wouldn’t restrict her freedom, but he would monitor her every move. Sometimes, being mentally imprisoned was more terrifying than physical confinement.
Elisa remained expressionless. She knew that if she didn’t agree, this matter would never be resolved.
What Hamish said in the hospital was all nonsense.
