Chapter 85: The Medicine Found in Elisa’s Room

Hamish remembered the doctor’s advice and didn’t continue to touch Elisa, but his hand remained restless on her waist, like a satiated ruler after a meal, patting Elisa’s face contentedly. “You’re much better now than lying in bed like a dead fish as you did before. Keep it up in the future.”
Elisa curled her lips but didn’t say anything. She used to sincerely care for him, but he would reject her. Now, when she pretended, he surprisingly liked it.
Hamish took his clothes and went to take a shower, while Elisa picked up the photo album from the floor. She gently patted off the nonexistent dust and carefully put the album back in its original place.
Hamish didn’t completely trust Elisa’s words, so once he entered the bathroom, he called Dr. West.
The other person answered late, sounding puzzled. “Mr. Burns, why are you calling so late?”
“Can I share a room with Elisa recently?”
“Has Miss Powell finished her menstrual cycle?” Dr. West asked.
Hamish’s pupils deepened. “It should be finished.”
After a moment of silence on the phone, Dr. West said, “Miss Powell is physically weak and still taking medication. It’s better not to share a room.”
“Alright.” Hamish responded and hung up the call.
Dr. West looked at the screen of his phone in confusion. Hamish called so late just to ask if he could share a room? She silently thought to herself, “I didn’t expect Hamish to care about Elisa so much.”
After ending the call, Hamish placed his phone on the sink outside and felt relieved. Elisa hadn’t lied to him.
After taking a shower, Hamish found a hairdryer from the cabinet. Elisa lay on the bed sideways, her hair still wet. He sat on the edge of the bed and plugged in the hairdryer. “Do you want to blow-dry it yourself or should I do it?”
Elisa didn’t move. “I don’t feel like blow-drying it. It will dry on its own.”
“Why have you become so lazy?” Hamish saw her tired complexion and lackluster expression, completely different from her usual image as an elite woman who would often mock him.
It seemed that she had a tiring day today. Hamish cradled the back of Elisa’s head and neck, letting her sleep on his lap.
Her long hair hung down as he pressed the power button on the hairdryer, and the hot air blew onto her face.
Worried about a recurrence of the incident where he accidentally burned her, Hamish was much more careful this time, his hand interweaving through her hair to test the temperature.
Elisa’s hair was fine, soft, and silky like satin. Since she had never dyed or permed it, her hair quality was excellent.
It took ten minutes to blow-dry her long hair completely. Hamish put down the hairdryer and couldn’t help but pinch her face as he looked at Elisa sleeping with a content expression on his leg.
Elisa was awakened by his touch, her drowsy eyes opening to gaze at the man above her. She raised her hand to touch her own hair and found it dry.
She propped herself up and rolled to the other side of the bed, still wrapped in the blanket, resembling a silkworm pupa.
Seeing her rarely delicate and adorable appearance, Hamish couldn’t help but curve his lips, feeling as if something had filled his heart, making it warm and cozy.
Time passed quickly, and a week flew by. Due to the need to take care of her body after the miscarriage, Elisa hadn’t been out recently.
The orphanage director called her twice, asking how she was doing and when she would come to pick up the gifts left at the orphanage.
After exchanging just a few words, Autumn snatched the phone away. Her voice sounded aggrieved. Elisa could imagine the expression of Autumn’s face at the moment.
“You lied to me,” Autumn said in a very disappointed tone.
“What did I lie to you about?”
“You said you would come to the orphanage, so why hasn’t it happened even after so long? You didn’t even call.”
“I’m at home taking care of myself. I’ll come to see you once I’m better.”
She said she would come to see “you,” not “all of you,” which satisfied Autumn.
Elisa couldn’t hear the other side of the conversation or know the situation there, so she continued, “My car is still parked at the orphanage. I can’t just abandon it, right?”
“I’ll take good care of your car and make sure no one else touches it. I dust it every day.”
Elisa smiled. How could there be such an obedient man? She recalled a popular term on the internet recently, called “puppy love,” and Autumn seemed just like a puppy.
“Thank you. When I go back, I’ll buy you something delicious,” Elisa said.
“Okay.”
“What do you like to eat?” Elisa asked.
Autumn naively replied, “I like whatever you buy.”
Elisa’s heart felt warm and fuzzy. After ending the call, she couldn’t help but touch her chest. Why did she care so much about Autumn? And why was he so good to her?
She had many questions, but one thing was certain: being with Autumn made her feel relaxed and even brought back memories of a beautiful time sixteen years ago.
“Knock, knock!” The sudden sound of knocking interrupted Elisa’s reminiscing. She walked over to open the door.
Standing at the doorway was Mrs. Gordon, holding a broom and mop. “Miss Powell, I need to clean the room. Please wait in the living room for a while. I’ll finish quickly.”
Elisa didn’t think much of it. Mrs. Gordon’s main job here was cleaning.
Every two or three days, she would come to clean, and every half a month, there would be a thorough cleaning, disinfecting everything inside and out. Today was the big cleaning day.
Elisa took her phone and tablet and went to the yard downstairs.
Mrs. Gordon sneakily watched the figure below the window, ensuring that the person wouldn’t come upstairs for a while. She then took her cleaning tools and entered Elisa’s bedroom. On the surface, she was cleaning, but in reality, she wanted to find something to use against Elisa.
A few days ago, Dr. West prescribed medication for Elisa, and she had finished the prescribed dosage. However, this morning, Mrs. Gordon saw Elisa still taking medication-lots of colorful pills.
Without any scruples, Mrs. Gordon rummaged through the room, searching from the bookshelf to the drawer and wardrobe. Finally, in the bottom drawer of the bedside table, she found several bottles of pills labeled as health supplements.
