After seeing that it was quiet outside the door, Elisa let out a sigh of relief. Hamish must have gone to Lila’s room now. She was glad that she had arranged Lila’s room far away, otherwise she would have heard sounds she shouldn’t hear.
Without Hamish tonight, she could also sleep well. But Elisa found that she couldn’t fall asleep no matter what. Her whole body ached, and her head didn’t feel well either. She got up, opened the drawer, took out a bottle of sleeping pills, and took two before falling into a sleepy state.
Hamish got up relatively early, but when he went downstairs, he found someone who had gotten up even earlier than him. Walking to the dining room, he could smell the fragrance of porridge.
The kitchen had frosted sliding doors. With the door closed, one could see a blurry figure moving inside.
A feeling that was hard to describe spread in his heart, gently soothing every organ in his body. Hamish didn’t go into the kitchen right away but stood outside watching the busy figure inside.
Just then, the door opened. Hamish looked at the person inside with an astonished expression, blurting out instinctively, “How come it’s you?”
Lila was also astonished, but she quickly reacted, carefully tasting the four words. She immediately understood that Hamish had mistaken her for Elisa.
“I was worried that the breakfast Elisa made wouldn’t suit your taste, so I got up early to make some,” she said.
Hamish also reacted, feeling a little awkward and annoyed. He didn’t understand why he would mistake Lila for Elisa recently.
Hamish murmured in acknowledgement, glancing at the kitchen somewhat uncomfortably to change the topic. “What did you make for breakfast that smells so good?”
“Seafood porridge. It’s done simmering. I’ll bring it out.”
Lila turned and went into the kitchen to bring out the porridge. The sandpot was scalding hot. When she lifted the lid, steaming heat billowed out.
“Be careful, it’s hot,” Hamish said, walking in. He took a towel to carry the pot. “Let me carry it. Stand farther away in case you get burnt.”
Hamish gave all his gentleness to Lila. The wickedness and violence he hid in his heart was unleashed without reservation on Elisa.
Hamish carried the scalding porridge, getting Lila to stand farther away, afraid that the steam would burn her.
Lila opened the disinfected cupboard and took out two bowls, only taking two. Hamish took the bowls and served the porridge.
Lila glanced upstairs and asked, “Should we call Elisa down to eat?”
“She’s sleeping, no need to call her,” Hamish said, his expression unreadable.
After a pause, Hamish added, “When it’s just the two of us, we don’t need to mention her. It’ll make you feel uneasy to mention her.”
Hamish knew clearly that no matter how magnanimous one was, they would still mind the third party.
Lila was gentle in temperament. The two grew up together. Adding to the fact that he had saved her life, they became lovers. Although they were not married, their relationship was closer than family.
Hamish did like Lila. It was a liking that came from a spiritual appreciation, wanting to treat her well and be gentle with her.
The only shortcoming of such feelings was perhaps the lack of sexual desire. He did not have those kinds of thoughts about Lila. When they were dating in the past, they had been intimate before, but it always felt not quite right when it came to going further.
Hamish had thought he was asexual, being the same towards everyone. But an exception appeared.
Elisa was like a fairy, captivating with just a glance or smile. She was like a flood that burst through the closed floodgate in his heart, the momentum intense and unstoppable.
Hamish also admitted his wrong, feeling that he had let Lila down. Therefore, whatever she wanted, he would try his best to satisfy her if he could give it.
The two interacted very casually, with a feeling like an old married couple. Lila enjoyed such moments very much, it was just a pity Elisa wasn’t here to see it.
Hamish received a call to go to the company. When leaving, Lila hurriedly brought an umbrella over, “The weather hasn’t been good recently. Bring an umbrella just in case.”
As she spoke, her gaze was fixed straight on Hamish, and her eyes that seemed to be covered in mist were full of only him.
In looks, Lila was inferior to Elisa. Her features were only considered delicate. In Bankshire, a city that cared about looks, she would disappear when thrown into a crowd.
However, her eyes were born beautiful. Looking closely, one would find they resembled Elisa’s, but it was hard to pinpoint exactly where the resemblance lay.
“Mm,” Hamish took the umbrella and turned to leave.
Lila stood at the door watching the man’s figure. Her right hand was placed on her neck. As Hamish disappeared, her hand tightened more and more, leaving several red marks on her neck in the end.
Elisa was woken by hunger. She got up and stretched her calves, then skillfully ordered breakfast on her phone.
After washing up and going downstairs, Elisa heard the sound of the TV coming from the living room. She paused, reacting belatedly that apart from her, there was now Lila in this house.
Seeing Elisa come down, Lila’s mouth curved into a smile with an incomprehensible meaning. “Elisa, did you sleep well last night?”
