After Micah left, Elisa asked the nurse to take her to the bathroom.
The female nurse saw that Elisa had nothing to do all day except staring blankly. Her eyes were fixed on the dead ginkgo tree outside the window.
“Miss Powell, would you like to watch some TV?”
Elisa lived in a VIP single room that had a private bathroom, air conditioning, and a TV connected to the internet so she could watch anything. But Elisa hadn’t turned on the TV at all since she moved in.
Elisa reacted and nodded, “Go ahead and turn it on.”
The nurse happily picked up the remote control and turned on the TV. She was thinking of finding a popular TV show to watch, but coincidentally, as soon as she turned it on, a breaking news headline popped up.
#Burns Group CEO Hamish Secretly Met First Love Lila Late At Night, Has He Decided To Divorce Elisa?
The nurse felt awkward. She was about to press back, but Elisa, who was lying in bed, reached out and stopped her.
“Click on that headline and see what it says.”
“Okay.”
The headline led to a blurry video showing two people holding hands intimately in a parking lot. Her eyes fixed on Hamish’s blurry face, which involuntarily brought up a pair of deep eyes looking at her coldly and mockingly.
Elisa watched calmly. She wasn’t really disturbed inside, after all she had seen even more inappropriate things than this.
What made her feel amused was that this man had just said he wouldn’t divorce her last week, but now he was caught intimate late at night with Lila and the video made headlines.
Elisa had never been able to figure out what Hamish was thinking. He hated her but wouldn’t divorce her. He loved Lila but wouldn’t give Lila a formal status. A typical two-timing man, who knew if he would ever make a choice.
Watching made Elisa’s head hurt a little. She pressed her fingertips to her temples and said to the nurse, “Find a TV show to watch.”
The nurse breathed a sigh of relief and searched for a TV drama. She glanced back at Elisa, curiosity in her eyes.
She couldn’t keep words bottled up inside, and felt the atmosphere was a bit heavy, so she couldn’t help saying some comforting words to Elisa.
“You can’t believe everything online. Marketing accounts make up fake stuff.”
Elisa let out a soft sneer. Marketing accounts did make up fake stuff usually, but this breaking news about Hamish was as real as could be.
Elisa took a light breath, suppressing the heartache welling up inside.
The TV was playing a popular family drama, and the plot was funny. The nurse couldn’t help laughing out loud. She suddenly realized she might be disturbing Elisa in the patient room. “Miss Powell, am I bothering you?”
“No, I’m watching too. The plot is quite funny.” In fact, she hadn’t really been watching at all.
The nurse breathed a sigh of relief. She looked at the time, it was 1:30am already. Usually patients would take a nap around this time. She asked, “Miss Powell, would you like to rest for a bit? I can turn off the TV.”
“You don’t need to turn it off, leave it on. It makes the room more lively.” Once the sounds were gone, the patient room would become completely silent. This kind of silence was different from at home, a bit scary, as if she was the only person left in the whole world.
The nurse truly felt Elisa was nice. Only Hamish didn’t know how to cherish her.
No matter if Elisa had intruded on someone else’s relationship, since Hamish married her he should take responsibility. Going on a date with an ex before even getting divorced, how was that not cheating? It was laughable that people online were praising Hamish as a good man.
