I sink to my knees as soon as I realize his true identity. Jason turns to face me, a smirk playing on his lips.
“Do not ever tell anyone.” He warns, his tone firm. “It’s fortunate that you recognized me in time.”
I let out a weary sigh, feeling overwhelmed by the revelation. I no longer wish to remain here; doubts begin to creep into my mind. Why isn’t there anyone guarding him, or following him as befits an Alpha? Is he deceiving me?
“I may not have seen all the qualities of an Alpha in you, but I concealed them.” Jason confesses, donning his shirt once more. He sits beside me, but I find myself shifting away from him, feeling uncomfortable in his presence.
“Now that you know I’m an Alpha, is that why?” He probes, his gaze searching mine.
“I suppose so!” I respond, my voice slightly raised before I catch myself. I clamp my lips shut, then release them again. “You shouldn’t have told me. Not yet, anyway.”
“But you kept pressing me about my position!” Jason’s voice raises, startling me. I realize that my persistence led him to reveal his secret prematurely.
“Why aren’t you surrounded by bodyguards or your personal Betas?” I inquire, trying to divert the conversation.
“I silenced them all.” He admits. “I told them I needed to play a prank on a fellow wolf. Some even questioned if I was searching for a mate, but I convinced my personal Beta that I was actually aiding a friend in the spirit world, someone named Alexander, who informed me about you.”
“He was the one who attempted to harm me behind your father’s pack house, but I managed to escape. Eventually, I agreed to assist him, although we were still debating the idea at the time.” He continues, recounting the tale.
“Please, continue. I’m intrigued.” I urge, forcing a smile as I subtly inch away from him.
“Well, that’s the gist of it. I brought you here because of my friend, Alexander. He’s actually a blue wolf, and only my Beta knows the reason why you’re here. I haven’t divulged it to anyone else. If I had sent my Beta to bring you, he might not have succeeded. Alexander even came to deliver you himself. I asked you if he was the one, but you were hesitant to confirm. Do I want to take him as a mate, or as a warrior? I have plenty of warriors here.”
“I’m sorry for my persistence. I’m just realizing now.” I apologize sincerely.
“I understand, and I’m confident that now you know I’m Alpha Jason of the Silver Moon Pack House, no one will mistreat you. I’ll call in my Beta so you can both get acquainted. If you notice any suspicious behavior or stealthy moves, inform him immediately. And if he’s unavailable, inform me.” Jason assures me, reaching for his communication device to contact his Beta. However, I stop him momentarily.
“How does that work? Do I need to come to your official houses each time I notice something, or can I use mind link?” I inquire, bowing my head and sinking to my knees before him in a gesture of deference. “I’m hesitant to ask for your mind link, your royal Alpha.”
“In actuality, it’s handled here, but you’re too special to be involved in this. If it ever happens, you can come to my room, and I’ll provide you with my mind link. Just be aware that it’s often quite busy.” Jason explains, his tone gentle. “And if you’ve observed, you’ll notice that as an Alpha, I possess a unique and distinct power bestowed upon me by the moon goddess. I started with only six warriors, but now I command thousands, stationed at different sections.”
“I’m grateful to have met you.” I express sincerely, and we shake hands. He attempts to embrace me, and I allow it. As he rests his head on my shoulders, I feel a shiver run down his spine before he pulls away.
“I’ve connected with my Beta. He’s told me he’ll be right here within seconds. And…” Jason begins, but he’s interrupted by a knock on the door. It’s his Beta. Jason moves to stand, but I gently push him back onto the bed.
“Sit. I’ll open it.” I assert confidently, striding towards the door. I grasp the royal doorknob and swing it open. The Beta, accompanied by seven fiery guards, enters and bows to the Alpha, though the guards do not. They only rise to their feet when the Alpha makes a sound.
“I want you alone. Your men can wait outside.” Jason instructs, gesturing towards the door. The guards promptly obey his command as soon as he indicates it.
“I’m here alone, Alpha! What would you like me to do?” The Beta inquires, saluting Jason.
“Come very close.” Jason beckons, and the Beta complies. “Sit on this bed.”
“I have no right to sit with the Alpha.” The Beta declines respectfully, and Jason shrugs his shoulders in response.
“Well, here’s my companion. Examine her face carefully, and don’t mistake her for another wolf. I don’t want any harm to come to her. If she is injured in any way, whether minor or severe, I’ll hold you responsible.” Jason commands firmly.
“Your command, Alpha!” The Beta responds with a salute. “What is your name, female wolf?”
“I’m Clarissa.” I assert confidently, though I avoid making direct eye contact with him to avoid feeling intimidated.
“You can also assign some guards for her. You know the numbers she deserves. Make her feel at home and allocate this room to her. Additionally, have my guards come in. The task has been completed.” Jason instructs, and the Beta salutes before marching out of the room with brisk steps. He returns within moments, accompanied by the Alpha’s three guards. They have a fierce appearance, armed with guns, wolfsbanes, and other dangerous substances. It’s evident that they’re not just your average police officers. I wave tentatively at them, half-expecting them to draw their weapons or make a threatening move, but they respond with friendly waves in return.
“This is my friend. Ensure she doesn’t suffer or get hurt in any way. If she does, you’ll face the consequences.” Jason instructs his guards, who respond with gruff affirmations. Then, he exits the room, leaving me feeling awed by his power. He glances back at me, and his warriors immediately follow suit, their expressions softening as he smiles and bids me farewell with a wave, exclaiming, “enjoy your stay.”
I’ve truly encountered someone remarkable. I begin to feel more at ease than ever before. An Alpha went to great lengths to ensure my safety and treated me with utmost respect, all without any ulterior motives. He didn’t pressure me into mating with him, getting marked, or engaging in sexual activity. I’m relieved he didn’t force anything upon me. I bounce on the bed, reveling in the joy of my newfound sanctuary. Eventually, I hop off the bed and head to the door, locking it securely behind me. As I turn around, I’m startled to find Alex standing in my room. His presence unnerves me momentarily, but his soothing voice helps calm my nerves.
“Why did you accept this offer?” He inquires, his tone gentle yet probing.
“Don’t frustrate me, guy.” I retort sharply. “Your friend did this for me. You should appreciate it.”
“And if I decide to?” He questions, taking a seat. “If you continue to live in this luxury apartment, you might not even want to get mated to me again once I return to the world.” He confesses.
“What if that’s the situation and I finally reject you?” I ask, raising an eyebrow.
“Then it’ll be bloody to get you.” He affirms.
“If it’ll be bloody to get me, do you know I might go for it as well?” I challenge.
“Rather than see you with a friend or another wolf, I’d rather you went for it.” He confesses, his tone serious. I remain silent, mulling over his words as I recline on the bed and sigh.
“Why were you surprised that he’s the Alpha though?” He asks suddenly, changing the subject.
“Were you watching us?” I ask, startled by his question.
“Yeah, I was here all along. I blocked you from seeing me. I blocked him too. I have more power than he does.” Alex reveals, and I feel uneasy at his words.
“What can you infer from our previous discussion?” I ask, trying to change the subject.
“What did you discuss so specially?” He retorts, his smirk evident.
“Leave for now.” I request, feeling frustrated as he disappears into thin air. I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself as I get up from the bed to explore the pack house. Suddenly, Alex reappears and hugs me from behind, catching me off guard.
