Elsa
Marcello is awake a few hours after his surgery. Since the bullets only got into his bicep and side of the lower back, they were easily removed and the wounds dressed. He lost his consciousness after losing a lot of blood but everything has been taken care of and he won’t be admitted for long. He will be dismissed only after two days and be free to go.
I am a tearful mess when Marcello opens his eyes. He flinches a little and then smiles at me. Gabrielle is standing behind me looking down at us.
“How dare you smile after scaring me like that?” those are the first words I say.
“You look so pretty when you cry, bella,” he says softly.
“You have the audacity to tease me like that after almost dying. What were you thinking?” I pout.
“You are scolding me already even before you become my wife. See, you were made for me,” he says with a diabolical smirk on his lips.
I can’t be mad at him for long. I love him too much.
“I had to do this. It had to be sooner or later but I couldn’t let this chance slip out of my grip. He brought himself to me. I still can’t understand what the hell he was thinking following me all the way to Bologna knowing very well that I have wanted to kill him for long now. It’s like he wanted me to kill him. It’s crazy,” he says.
“I think he was calculating for other things. Maybe he thought his trap would work then his agent would be able to kill Roberto while you were away,” Gabrielle says.
“What?” Marcello frowns in confusion.
“Federico sent someone to kill Roberto. She was disguised as a nurse and she had the wrong medication that would have killed Roberto ina few minutes if they had been administered,” Gabrielle explains to him. ” Luckily, Elsa was able to stop her before she had done anything.”
“She was very suspicious and she kept asking me to leave the room so that she can work on Papà. She looked aggressive when I refused and I became very suspicious of her then. I asked her for her staff ID and she didn’t have it. Her excuses were not adding up so I called in the guards,” I say.
“The soldiers interrogated her and found out that she was approached by a young man who paid her in advance and promised much more if she succeeded. The young man is definitely not Federico but he could have been sent by Federico to carry out this plan on his behalf while he lured you into leaving the hospital,” Gabrielle added.
“Federico has poor planning. I told him that before I finished him. Anyway, we are lucky she didn’t do that. How is Roberto?” Marcello says.
“He is fine. He is resting,” I respond.
“Good,” Marcello murmurs and leans into the pillows with a sigh.
“Have you got any update about Marco’s case?” he inquires.
“No, we are watching both his homes closely but we haven’t go any update,” Gabrielle responds.
“Are you kidding me?” I hiss through clenched teeth. “You guys can’t be seriously discussing this at this time. Marcello, I don’t think you are in the position to be discussing killing someone after you nearly died yourself.”
Marcello grins and holds my hands in his.
“I can’t stop worrying about my family’s safety, bella. It is my duty and stopping my enemies from harming my family is something I will do as long as I am alive. There is no right or wrong time,” he says.
“I understand, but please rest your mind for now. You have already been through a lot and I think you shouldn’t be stressing yourself this much,” I urge him.
“Okay, baby. I don’t want to worry you. You have been worried enough. Your eyes are swollen,” he says, “You have been crying a lot. You shouldn’t cry anymore. I am fine now.”
I realise that Gabrielle excused himself a few minutes ago. I try to stifle a yawn but it escapes. The activities of the day are finally catching up with me. I have lost track of time. It must be so late in the night.
“Come here. Let’s sleep together,” he offers, pushing himself to the edge of the hospital bed.
“No, I am alright,” I turn him down, seeing that I would end up hurting him if I tried to squeeze in with him.
“You know I am not going to consider your refusal. Just come here. I want to feel you,” he insists. Having no more guts remaining in me to turn down his offer. I eagerly climb into the bed and he holds me as close to him as he can. Luckily, the beds in the VIP section are a bit bigger than other hospital beds.
“You smell so good,” he murmurs, breathing into my hair. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too. I was so worried Federico was going to kill you,” I whisper back.
“He almost did, but I am here with you. I didn’t want to die yet. I want to live to our wedding and see you bear me my little soldiers and princesses,” he says softly.
“The little soldiers are definitely going to be fighters like there father. I will go crazy id they have their father’s attitude.”
Marcello chuckles softly and then caresses my jaw with his good hand.
“Your attitude is no different from mine. We are cut from the same cloth. That is why we are a perfect fit. That’s why you were made for me,” he says. “I love you, Elsa.”
“I love you too, Marcello. I love you so much.”
He leans closer to kiss my lips and I close my eyes to feel him. I had lost hope that I would feel this again. I can’t believe how blessed I have turned out to be.
I kiss him back with equal hunger, but the kiss is soft and we both take our time to discover ourselves. I push myself up so that Marcello’s mouth is directly in front of mine so that he doesn’t have to put in effort to reach me. His tongue invades my mouth and I open up to him, my body rejoicing at the familiar feeling of his intrusion.
