Chapter 90

Lucy POV
Outside was utter chaos. What I wasn’t expecting to find was my mother fighting Jamie. She was injured, but it didn’t stop her fighting. I look around, horrified at the carnage, looking for my brothers, when I notice Ace grab a little girl who I assume must be Jamie’s daughter. She was screaming and thrashing in his arms when my mother called out to me.
“They went into the forest,” She screams at me as she punches Jamie in the chest, her hand piercing through him, and the noise is sickening, but I turn, sniffing the air as the wind picks up. Rayan’s scent is weak but noticeable.
I dart off into the trees when I am suddenly thrown forward by a blast behind me. A shriek leaves me, and pain ripples through me from the bond, and I know Tyson is hurt but still alive. Shaking myself off, I notice the trees around me broken and flat against the ground like something just bowled them over when I hear faint voices.
I move quickly, chasing after Melana and Josie wanting to get my brothers to safety. Although I had no idea where would be safe with everything going on, it was madness, and if it weren’t for my heightened vision, I wouldn’t be able to see in the darkness. The lightning was crazy, and the winds only got stronger as I pushed forward against them, trying to navigate my way through what was left of the forest. Twigs and branches snapping off trees and whipping my arms and face as I try to listen over the howling wind. I felt like I was running on a treadmill, barely making any distance with the winds swirling around me and pushing me in the direction I came from when I hit a small clearing and saw Melana with her arms outstretched. Rayan at her feet when my eyes dart to Josie, who was holding Ryden.
Rayan was screaming at her to give Ryden to him as he got to his feet. My hair whipped around my face as I made my way over to them, Josie’s eyes instantly seeking me out, and she snarls, baring her canines at me.
“Please, Josie, just give me the baby,” Melana begs her sister, and I growl, baring my fangs at her wondering what is going on.
“They will kill me,” Josie says, and Melana takes a step toward her, but Josie pulls Ryden closer, her hand on the back of his neck, and he was screaming, the wind carrying his voice away.
“Please, Josie, just give me my brother?” I ask, holding my hands out for my brother.
“You took my mate,” Josie sneers at me.
“She never took him, Josie. He is sick. Why can’t you see that?” Melana tries to reason with her, and she looks down at Ryden in her hands, wrapped in his filthy blanket. She shakes her head.
“This is the only way. I give him back, and they will kill me,” Josie says.
“No, you can go, just give me my brother, and you can go, Josie, we won’t chase after you,” I tell her, my eyes on my brother in her hands. Melana nods to her holding her hands and stepping closer, but she takes a step back again before turning her glare on me.
“This is your fault, all of it. You just had to report him to Avery. You took him from me. Now I will take from you,” She screams, and I see her hand twitch a second before I lunge at her. Ryden goes flying from her hands. His squeal pierces my ears and heart as I tackled her, and we hit the ground.
Josie punches me in the head, and Rayan screams, making me look over at him to see Melana catch Ryden. Just as Josie grabs my throat, she climbs on top of me, her claws sinking into my throat as she strangles me.
“We were in love, you took him from me, you took my mate,” She screams and grits her teeth, and panic kicks in when I suddenly can’t breathe. I clutch at her hands, and she screams when I feel her wrists breaking but doesn’t let go. She headbutts me, and I see black for a second before grabbing her hands, trying to loosen her grip when she suddenly goes rigid, her grip loosens on my throat, and a look of shock crosses her features. Josie looks down at her chest. Her hands let my throat go, and I cough and look up to see Melana standing behind her, tears rolling down her cheeks, and Josie looks up at her sister.
“I won’t let you hurt anyone else,” Melana chokes out before closing her eyes, and I hear a sickening tearing noise before my legs a coated in a substance I knew instantly was blood. Josie’s lips part before she falls on her side and I stare up at Melana, holding her heart in her hands before she collapses to her knees beside her sister. I scrambled backward, looking at Josie while Melana sobbed over her sister’s body, pulling her little sister into her lap and cradling her head while stroking her face.
Tears spring in my eyes at what she did, Josie was my friend once, and it was clear how much doing that just broke Melana. Looking around, my eyes fell on Rayan, who was staring blankly at Melana, Ryden clutched in his arms, and a sob broke past my lips as I got to my feet, rushing toward him.
“Rayan!” I cry out, dropping beside him and looking down at Ryden in his arms. He was eating his own hand, sucking happily and unharmed, when I heard someone call my name over the wind.
“Lucy, Rayan!” I hear screamed, and my head snaps up in the direction of the voice to see my mother burst through the trees, looking around frantically.
“Mum?” Rayan calls, turning his head to look behind him.
“Mum!” he screams, getting to his feet, and she starts running toward him. I get to my feet running after him when my mother opens her arms, and we both crash against her. Her arms envelop us both, and she kisses both our faces and I pull back, relieved to see she is okay, only to notice it isn’t my mother but her wolf Amanda. I go to take a step back from when her hand reaches out, cupping my face gently.
“That’s my girl,” She whispers, brushing my cheek gently before ripping me toward her and hugging me. I hug her back, and tears slip down my cheeks when she looks down when Ryden squirms, making noises crushed between our bodies.
“Hey precious boy, come to Mumma,” She purrs at him, taking him from Rayan when the sky lit up and streaks loudly with lightning and thunder.
“We need to get out of here,” My mother calls over the wind that picks up rapidly.
“Melana, we need to go,” I scream out to her, and my mother growls viciously and tries to pass me Ryden, but I stop her with a hand on my chest.
“I never would have found them if it wasn’t for her,” I tell her.
“She just killed her sister to save Ryden and Lucy, mum. She saved me too,” Rayan tells her, and Amanda looks at us before looking down at Ryden. She nods before her eyes dart to Melana. Melana gets to her feet, wiping her eyes but remains where she is, waiting to see what my mother would do.
“Come on, we need to leave,” My mother tells her when the ground suddenly starts shaking violently like an earthquake.
