Logan
There is no one in the house when we reach it. It is a big bungalow with a gate. We climb over and break the doors, checking every corner but we don’t find anyone; neither human nor vampire. We head back to the woods to another house that is near this and ends up checking the whole neighbourhood. It is an isolated neighbourhood, on the outskirts of the city, very quiet and lifeless. It looks like an abandoned neighbourhood yet everything is perfectly looked after; the lawns are trimmed, the houses are in good shape and there are cars as actually packed in the front yards.
After finding no luck in that place, I try to think of somewhere else Donovan or any vampire can be hiding, but I can’t find a clue. They are probably hiding in some dark corner in their bat forms.
Wait!
That makes sense.
They are either hiding in a house or somewhere in the forest in a dark cave.
A cave!
That gives me a lead.
I head down to the Rocky Mountains Oracle caves. I met Donovan there once, but she would he be there now? It would make it very predictable for him to be there. He wouldn’t make such a mistake, would he?
Besides, we cleaned up the Oracle caves and turned them back into a proper altar of the moon goddess. Unless he is there praying to the moon goddess, which I doubt. Those demons don’t even seem to have any kind of faith at all.
Reaching the Oracle caves, we all mask our scents and go in. Vampires are capable of sensing any kind of movement even though it is smooth as fuck, be we still chose to do a silent sneak-in. We look around but there is no sign of vampires, no reeking scent, no bat, nothing.
We check the surrounding area but had no clue.
I stop to think of how many caves are in these woods. The White Mountain has a face, but we have been there. We have been to their residence but not down to the caves. If they had been there, they would have probably fled when they sensed our presence.
Or not.
I lead my army back to the White Mountain. This time around, down into the valley, where the Misty river gets to
its waters. For a moment, I wonder if these vampires have never got the idea to kill us all by poisoning these waters.
The caves are totally wild, with water dripping from the top. There are frogs and who knows, probably snakes and other untamed wildlife.
This place looks uninhabitable.
I almost change my mind to leave when I catch a vampire’s scent. There is a corner leading to another part of the cave. I sneak in, with the others following slowly and as quietly as possible.
Donovan looks startled for a split second on seeing me but quickly puts on a smug face. He has there others of his disciples. Only three.
“Alpha, how good to see you,” he says, getting up from a rock on which he was sitting opposite his three followers. My army comes to stand behind me to show him not to act stupid.
“Tell me, how was Switzerland? I have always wanted to visit, Zurich, such a beautiful city,” he says, faking being so enthusiastic about seeing me
“It was very enjoyable, thank you for asking. Very enjoyable, until you decided to fuck it up!” I answer with a reflecting enthusiasm.
“Oh, I wouldn’t have intended to disrupt your vacation but I have important things that I prioritize over you spending your money,” he says.
“I didn’t expect your empathy anyways. Don’t act like what you just did can be overlooked, Donovan. You can’t expect me to keep up this conversation like we are some old friends,” I tell him.
“You are right. We are not friends anymore. You tried to kill me, but I am smart. I survived. You thought I was going to stay in there waiting for your bomb to explode on me?” he raises an eyebrow at me. “And those documents you gave me, they were fake. I had to come back,” he says and shrugs.
“You know why you will never get what you want Donovan? It is because I am still alive. And as long as I am still alive, you will never get what you want, Donovan. The Blue Blood pack minerals will never be yours,” I tell him.
“You trust yourself so much. Too much actually. Eliminating you might be hard but not impossible. You are not immortal,” he tells me.
“How is Arya? I miss her pretty face,” he says, looking thoughtful for a second.
“You better keep my mate out of your shit!” I growl at him. He found this to get me off track. I am sure he is calculating something while he creates this meaningless conversation.
He keeps walking about, looking up at the cave and then around. He is planning an escape!
I can’t give him this opportunity to run away this time. I am here to end this circus.
I watch him intently, listening to him being so verbose.
“You are making this hard for me. That’s why I agave to eliminate the Blacktooth Guardians too. I don’t care if I have to clear all the life off that land to get what I want,” he says.
I watch his neck, and how his head is attached to it. In my head, I play out how I would behead him with my bare claws as swiftly as possible.
“When I attack, you come after me and put all the other three down. Be quick and alert,” I communicate through the mind link to my warriors behind me.
“If you hadn’t chosen to interfere with the Blue Blood pack, then we would be on better terms. Whatever has happened to your pack wouldn’t have happened. In fact, you would still be in Zurich enjoying the city with your mate. It is not too late to reconsider which side to be on,” he tells me.
“In your dreams Donovan. Only in your dreams will I ever be on your side,” I tell him. He sniggers and looks at the side of the cave through which we entered. He’s calculating a way to escape.
In a split second, I jump to his neck, throwing him to the ground. Without wasting any second I sink my canines and claws into his neck. My warriors pounce onto his disciples and others tear through Donovan’s legs and thighs. I taste cold blood on my tongue. Using his shoulders as gear, I push against them with my legs, tearing at his neck, splitting it open. Using my claws, I hold his head and pull, and my examines, tear his head off his neck. I throw it in a paddle behind us and a frog jumps out as if also avoiding the hideous demonic head.
Donovan doesn’t groan or cry while I slaughter him. His body convulses violently when his head gets off but then goes stiff thereafter.
I get off him and watch his lifeless body. It has been mutilated, his hands and legs of his body, and my warriors covered with the blood of the vampires. We have got all of them down and headless.
For a moment, it feels just kike a dream finally getting rid of Donovan. This is the only sure way that he won’t come back. It would take some hard work to rejoin all his body parts if he is planning to come back to life.
I spend some good time trying to make myself believe that I have finally defeated this monster. He seemed like he could never die, the way he wanted and spoke like he was some good.
Well, who is laughing now, Donovan?
Having a strange feeling that the whore-son might attempt to come back to life, I carry his head with me out of the caves and we head out of the White Mountains.
We meet with the other warriors who had spread out in the search. We gather and together we head down the Misty river.
I bury the head exactly on the boundaries of the Blue Blood pack and the Blacktooth Guardians pack, as a symbol of victory and amity between the two packs, in front of both pack warriors as the witnesses.
I keep a mental note to build a stone on it so that no one will dare to forget this.
This victory will be remembered for generations that will come after us.
We all head to my pack where we meet with Arya and Eric. Arya runs to my wolf and hugs me. She is crying.
“Oh, Logan. I was so scared. I was worried that you were never going to come back to me. Thank you for coming back,” she breaks into tears.
I quickly transform into my human body and hug her back, kissing her and assuring her that everything will be fine because we have finished this battle with victory in our hands.
Eric gives me a nod, He has a bandage around his chest but otherwise, he looks fine. I am sure the other wounds weren’t so deep, they healed quickly.
Arya continues to weep into my chest. I hardly ever see my girl very emotional. It is very sweet when she is. I carry her into our house, leaving everyone else behind. I just want to be with my mate right now. I need to comfort her. She looks like she was terrified to death.
Eric approaches the warriors to welcome them from the battle. He looks very happy about the victory despite all the destruction he has suffered from both attacks.
What matters right now is that we don’t have to worry about Donavon ever again. Even though it still seems unreal, it is true, and very comforting. We can now be assured of a better and more peaceful future for our packs.
